Yeah, that seems to be the case. The weird thing is, I could do certain combos but they just kind of fizzled until I unlocked later combos. I guess the later ones buff the earlier ones? Like, the one she has that summons three blocks that push out just made three tiny lightning bolts until I unlocked the one after that. It's weird.
I think that's Y to zap, Y to summon the blocks where the zaps hit, then Y to push the blocks forward?
Yeah but she didn't summon the blocks until I learned the next combo. It's weird.
Doesn't that type of combo start with one step and upgrade directly to three?
The bell, huh? Probably not gonna use Bow Wow, then.
Funny little alteration Legends did. In the Wii U version, the fairy that asks Impa and Sheik for aid on Death Mountain was named as Navi. Turns out that was a translator's in-joke, as in Japanese, it's just a generic unnamed fairy. Legends went and made the fairy an unnamed one again.

Oh my god the bonuses for gathering multiple party members around a giant boss are a game-changer. Having 2 people there makes you restore your Magic gauge by attacking the boss.
I keep hearing about people hating the opening part of SS. Honestly, it kind of baffles me. I feel like it took longer to get into the meat of, say, Twilight Princess, ot Wind Waker.

While I can't say I'm necessarily going to agree with what point is considered the "meat" of the game, I will say this.
SS takes much much longer to stop feeling like it's holding your hand.
Much of the earlier parts with TP (Especially once you get dragged into the Twilight and meet Midna) have loads of good atmosphere and characterization.
Fi is basically a robot whose gimmick is 'jokingly' repeating everything other people tell you, and has all the personality of a vocaloid.
I mean, if you dislike Midna (who I feel is one of the strongest character the franchise has ever had, and the best partner by a mile) then yeah I guess TP could seem comparably worse.
But in the time it takes you to start running around as wolf link and catching spirits and actually doing shit, SS still has you up in sky City running errands and unlocking mechanics on an even slower drip feed than what TP puts you through. (I recall being put on a mini quest to learn how to move BOXES).
But if wolf link isn't your thing and you don't care for Midna, well then TP isn't probably a game you're going to enjoy.
But as someone who prioritizes characters in a story above everything else, TP is pretty hard to top for me. It and Majora's Mask are the only titles that really have any particularly fleshed out characters to speak of.
Also Wind Waker has you doing shit way sooner than either of those games. Granted, it was the first of the 3D Zeldas that didn't get the action started more or less immediately, and they've only gotten worse with the tutorials with each new main console title.
OoT just has you go grab the sword and then farm rupees for a shield and it's off to the first dungeon.
MM immediately drops you into the action with your basic gear and then it's off to Clock Town.
Wind Waker is when the tutorials began to get lengthy, but it wasn't until TP and SS that they got to be really obnoxious.
I can see why people think it's dumb but I think the name Linkle is kind of cute when said out loud. Linkette would have been worse, so Linkle isn't exactly the height of laziness.

I dislike Linkle's name but she is ridiculously fun to play as.
Also remembering the SS and TP wind-up speed just makes me appreciate LBW even more. "Here's a sword! Here's a villain! Stab the latter with the former! Go!"

Here's hoping for a better open to the new one. Just go with something like LttP - shit hits the fan and you need to do stuff NOW. Throw up tutorial prompts rapid fire as you beat off some moblins or something.

To each their own. I liked ALBW but not its approach to story. It went too far in the other direction. Ultimately it gets a pass from me because it's a portable game and a throwback to classic Zelda. I won't be happy if Zelda Wii U is that minimalistic with the plot. I think they can find a happy medium somewhere between.

I wholeheartedly apologize if I have you the impression that I didn't like TP or its characters. That's not what I wanted to get across at all. It has characters strong enough that Link is basically a sidekick.
But yes, I guess it all depends on where you define the end of getting started. If it's the first time you get into actual combat, WW and SS have TP beat by a few minutes. If it's the first time you get into a proper dungeon, then Wind Waker is left in the dust (unless you count stealthing through Forsaken Fortress, of course).
So my decision was made for me. My father-in-law got HWL for my son, so the one my wife ordered that came today automatically went to me. I've not even got the first mission completed, because I'm a stinking adult who has to be responsible. I'm halfway through it, and let me say, the ability to direct generals to objectives is game-changing. I may not even mind that I have to re-do a lot of this game I've already completed on the WiiU
Well one good thing about simplified animations on the 3DS is it only takes one yank to bring down Argarok with the hookshot. Makes that boss less annoying.

Pretty sure they stopped caring about "fitting in" when they added the Wind Waker characters.
It's anything goes now.
"Okay, but these guys are Skilled Summoners! Their reinforcements are stronger! Fight them, please?"
Ok fine.
She exists as long as the conditions around her that allow it are in place so since shes from a different time its cool.
Alternately tri-force blah blah
If you think it doesn't work, you didn't play Awakening DX good enough.
She uses the Sea Lily's Bell.
Fuck Groose.
I hated every minute of that guy.
I think Groose is the only Nintendo-made character who's on the "needs to be playable" list still
You could argue for the remaining Ocarina sages (I think it's just Nabooru and Saria since no one cares about Rauru) and maybe Demise on the outside
Oh, right
We definitely need Linebeck
I think Linebeck and Groose are the easy top two right now, with Nabooru and Saria a ways behind, but we're getting Marin so anything is on the table

Them's fighting words
Well before we fight, you'll need to sit through my generic anime high school cutscene.
And then several more, over the course of an hours-long tutorial session.
