sigh, Kodiaks are still so common.

At this point they just completely suck the fun out of the game for me.

Honestly aim for their ST since most of them are the 3 variant or Sprit Bear which means lots of critical equipment in there. I love machine guns again since you core out their backs and toss in a few rounds.

You have become me, Betsy. A ray of sunshine and positivity. You encourage and give kind advice. Yet, you still fail to recommend the Krowphujun and 5SS. I would say I'm disappointed, but only Buttcleft can accurately describe how disappointed I am in both you and this game.
I have started playing again, I am horrifyingly accurate with my ridiculous long range loadouts. Send halp.

Hey at least I didn't recommend the Pirate's Bane stock loadout. My 5SS and Krowphujun have been gathering dust after I got the Marauders and Hunchback IIcs.

faction play personal challenge this weekend, for people who're into that kind of thing. It rewards the usual basket of random stuff and a choice of free mech if you do all the bits

I guess PGI will prove once again that they can bribe players into FP with outlandish rewards, then act all surprised when nobody stays around

Hmm, I managed to get the scouting one done before. Wonder if I'll be able to get it again. Although the Crab or Nova rewards sort of suck. I love how they made it IS vs Clans FW matches only.

In case anyone can't find the vary obvious webpage:

    Operation: Frontline Faction Play Event
    Greetings MechWarriors,

The Free Rasalhague Republic continues to be the shore upon which the bulk of the Clan Factions have broken; Clan Ghost Bear and Clan Smoke Jaguar are all but devastated, reduced to controlling only their regional capitals. As Clan Wolf fights to maintain their ground, Clan Jade Falcon has torn through Steiner territory with the strength of the falcons claw, ever-focused toward the shining jewel of the Inner Sphere.

The Inner Sphere is fractured; there is no doubt. The time has come for Operation Frontline.

To all Clan and Inner Sphere MechWarriors alike; do not allow inter-Factional conflicts and grudges to blind you to the true enemy. The most honorable goals and the most lucrative rewards are not to be gained from fighting among yourselves for minor territories. The true fight is for the very foundation of the Inner Sphere itself. Look to the frontlines. Look to the true enemy.

The focus of Operation Frontline is strictly upon Clan vs. Inner Sphere battles.

Battles which pit Clan vs. Clan or Inner Sphere vs. Inner Sphere will not contribute toward the Goal Conditions for this Event.

Warriors of the Inner Sphere, send your forces to augment the frontlines and break the tide of the Clan Invaders.

Warriors of the Clans, focus your combined strength against the Inner Sphere freebirths and achieve victory.

If your Faction does not have a direct Attack Lane against the opposing side, you must use the Call To Arms system to fill the ranks for critical Clan vs. Inner Sphere battles.

Whether you're a veteran of Faction Play or a green recruit, this event is a great opportunity to jump into the fray, help tip the balance of power, and earn some excellent rewards!

That said, I'm going to do the invasion part first and complete it before deciding whether I'm willing to endure the scout one.

Also no win requirement, thank god. Should make this a lot less painful than the previous FW event.

So, how does the playing for clans/playing for IS stuff work anyway? I'm assuming it isn't like switching your allegiance from one IS state to another right? Is it a separate character per side? Or do you have to go through all the faction switching penalties (and only being able to be in a guild for one side or the other) just to play the other side?

How does it handle purchased/unlocked mechs? Can you play clan mechs on your IS-affiliated character?

No need to apologize for my being clueless, I was just curious.

And thanks for the quick reply. I had kinda hoped they'd let people make a second character for Clan play, but that was back before the game had even released and the forums were making it look like they wanted people to really invest in, well, not role-playing necessarily, but having a definite character/in-universe identity. I guess it would make things too easy for griefers in Faction Warfare though.

So, is this game KBAM friendly, or do I need a stick for it? If the latter, any recommendations? I haven't bought a stick since the MS Sidewinder Precision 2 back in the early 2000's. I mean, I have no idea when I'll be able to afford to get my gaming PC running again (I've been trying to save up, but shit keeps happening), but might as well ask while I'm thinking of it, right?

Trust me a KBAM is far superior to a gamepad or even HOTAS. I've tried both and went back to my KBAM since it allows you to torso twist and move faster.

I wanted the HOTAS to work so badly. Just to fully immerse myself in the game (like I can with A-10). What is funnier is the day I tried my throttle I accidentally left it out of neutral and my mech would start waddling off at the start. Took me a few minutes to figure out what the heck was going on.

I think the dagger in the eye are these two requirements to get there, in the end:
Scouting Victories, each with a Match Score of at least 50 0 of 20 Cameron Star Warhorn and Clan Dagger Warhorn
Invasion Victories, each with a Match Score of at least 80 0 of 10 Broken Inner Sphere Hanging Item

Also, either mode requires you to play at least twenty matches, to meet one or another requirement (assuming you meet the score requirement every match).

The scout matches go pretty quickly. I haven't decided if I'm gonna try and do the invasion challenge yet. Maybe see how active the frr team speak is this weekend.

What is funnier is the day I tried my throttle I accidentally left it out of neutral and my mech would start waddling off at the start. Took me a few minutes to figure out what the heck was going on.

Well I've reconsidered doing this event.

Is it that bad? I was going to jump into the game this weekend to try and get that free mech.

I did the last one that had similar requirements and it was painful. But my ECM Shadow Cat is so much fun.

I mean, the event does run for 7 days; it's not a crazy amount of wins (especially considering how fast scout games go.)

Well my invasion win rate is about 30%? and at ~30 minutes a game I'm better off playing Stellaris

    Move to New Zealand
It’s not a very important country most of the time

Ouch, yeah does indeed suck. Sorry about that dude. I ran pugs earlier today and knocked out most of the scout parts. The 50 points definitely do help. Plus not running with the FRR against Clan Wolf made it easier during pug hours. It seems that most newbies run Clan Wolf for some reason. I saw more trial mechs and LRM boats than in normal matches. After the better player come out (seems to be the prime time for Europeans and East Coast) I had to join up with the FRR to get more wins. The gathering Intel definitely helps running a useful light (Oxide, Firestarter and maybe the Huginn). Also Radar Derp is a must for lights in Scouting.

Scouting done. Now I'm debating on trying the Invasion portion... Not too sure since I have no idea what a good drop deck is these days.

Didn't buy the Grasshopper... Regretting that decision now. Currently I'm sitting on a crappy SplatCat, 2 Marauders and the Oxide.

    I do 70/70/65/BJ-3

there are lots of useful 65 tonners (mostly I use the jester, but there's also the jaeger DD and thunderbolts), and the 70 tonners can be either warhammers or grasshoppers (warhammers are probably better overall now, but jumping is pretty useful and the grasshopper 5P is still really good)

you can do 3x 70/75 tonners and a light of some kind, but I actually really like the poptart BJ-3. It trades pretty well as a second or third mech

I went back to my somewhat original drop deck of 3 Thunderbolts and a Griffin 2N. Since the Thunderbolts got smaller I'm hoping they will do better now. I did have a 3 Warhammer build but can't pilot them very well which hurts me.

I like 2 Battlemasters and 2 Cicadas, or you could do 2 Marauder and a 55/45 or 50/50 pair of mediums. The Quickdraw 5K and 4H are still decent, you could do some of those and a Warhammer or something.

Cicadas and Blackjacks are pretty good pickups if you don't have them.

Hmm, might try the 2 Marauder one.

Edit: I have two Cicadas that I got for free. The 6ML one and a PPC one. Are they decent mediums or are there better versions I should get?
