Yeah, the downside about having so many events in Pokemon is that some of them are "blink and you'll miss it". Even though Pokemon posted about it on all of their social media several times, tons of people still didn't know that the Mewtwo distribution was going to be a reward for participating in the competitive season- there is only so much you can do*! The upside is that there's always another event just around the corner...
The moral of the story is never blink.
*A thing they could ACTUALLY DO is create an in-game method to find new events and register for Pokemon GL tournaments but that is crazy and too convenient and will never happen.
What I am talking about would be more of a PSS screen tab. Just "notifications". "There is a new tournament to register for! If you participate, you have a chance to get [Insert Reward Here]!"
They could even be super cute about it and add them as extra things that will pop up on TVs if you interact with them.
Or they could announce their events in their NEWSLETTER instead of just posting pictures of the latest pokemon TCG mega box and the newest pokemon T-Shirt...

The dumb thing for me is I knew about the event. But because I do not own ORAS I couldn't participate (blah blah tournament rules). Even though all the other legendary codes and such have worked with X and Y. So yeah
I guess it's fine... But a shiny Mewtwo would have been nice....
For two weeks now, I have been missing out on a ton of pokes, simply because nothing appears as less than three steps. So it's impossible for me to track anything now. I can't catch or find anything good. I actually saw a Pikachu this morning, but he escaped my ball and fled. I see gyms with friggan Dragonite's... WTF.... Any time I want a Drowzee I just have to turn my app on and there will be like 11 right there.
Is there a master list of PA Gen VI'ers for purposes of Friend-Safari-ing? I went from "yay Snorlax" to "gotta get perfect IVs for this OU team" in like six days and now I think I need professional help. But also Pokemon from the Friend Safari.
I spent all this time thinking it just rhymed with pikachu
To be honest, I think it's a little of both. I think the spelling in particular was meant to remind people of Pikachu, but in sort of a "this isn't quite right" kind of way. It's really a clever name
I'm a little disappointed with the ability on mimikyu - I was hoping for something a little wilder and ditto-like. Still could be fun for oddball plays like using the free hit + focus sash to stay up way longer than you should and set up toxic/entry hazards/try for a 1HKO.
Tried catching Ho-Oh in SoulSilver. It knocked itself out with Struggle twice. I caught it once, but it didn't have an Adamant nature despite my Synchronize Abra so I reset.

I just hate trying to catch Legendaries. It's not fun or challenging. It's effectively just rolling dice over and over and over until you either win or run out of chances. Then, even if you catch it, it might not have a good nature even if you use a Synchronize Pokemon.
I'd rather the rules for catching Legendaries be different. Maybe they should function more like trainer battles, except that instead of having multiple Pokemon there's one whose supernatural connection to its environment rejuvenates it whenever its HP is reduced to zero and makes its capture rate zero. Reduce it to zero HP five times and it becomes possible to catch with a reasonable capture rate (the Master Ball could catch it any time).
I just went on a vigorous round of legendary catching in SoulSilver and don't remember having that much trouble with Ho-Oh. You're doing all the usual stuff? Quickball round one (it is shocking how often this works on legendaries), hypnosis as needed, false swipe, dusk balls (I assume you'd go at night to make these awesome), then timer balls after round 20? I guess I don't mess much with getting ideal natures for legendaries, but I can honestly say I haven't had a legendary struggle out on me since Giratina in Pearl.

Is the TCG friendly to new players? Is there going to be a new Sun/Moon set that would serve as a jumping on point for someone interested in beginning the game?
I've played a bunch of magic over the years (never stuck with it for long) and I've played a TON of the old Decipher Star Wars CCG. I've also dabbled in Hearthstone and a few other online card games so I'm not new to deckbuilding and card game mechanics. I'm just new specifically to the Pokemon one. Somehow, despite my absolute love of Pokemon I have never even attempted to get into the game.

You could try out the TCG online here to see if you like it:
It's not really a full replacement for the actual game though since it's nearly impossible to get cards without paying money.
I really wish they'd kept releasing proper video games of the TCG instead of just stopping after the second one. That probably would've resulted in people not buying the actual cards though, so I guess I can see why they didn't.
you can codes for the TCG (or used to be able to anyway) in card packs. however many people don't play the online client so you can get the codes, which are equivalent to 1 pack, for absurdly cheap. the online client has some minor f2p elements in that you can earn whatever the in game currency and spend it on packs/starters. however the packs are smaller than ones you buy with real money, don't remember if they have reduced chances at things or not,

Eh, with the Catching O-Power now, catching Legendaries is not a huge ordeal. And I personally like that they don't give special rules for Legendary battles, I think one of the coolest things about Pokemon is that every Pokemon is something that you can use as-is. It does make the games a bit easier but I'm fine with that.

I haven't played the TCG since second edition. I have no clue these days. I just know from secondhand info that there has been some insane power creep since those early days.
So there's some sort of Gamestop Arceus giveaway tomorrow? How do those typically work, just go ask for a code at the counter? (And try to get one for my Omega Ruby and one for my X) ?
I just wish there were a newgame+ option for pokemon games. Basically you would just start over with all the stuff you have, but all the trainers you fight have higher levels and evolved forms, and maybe better ai.

That could be rough. The main issue would be access to travel and facilities. You could do it with clever map design I guess?
I did like... I want to say it was R/S (or maybe DP?) that did the calls for refights? Just let me refight trainers and they ramp up over time. Just, not make the cap so low this time around.

Yep, go in and have to talk to a person. They will probably only give you one. With bank, do you really need two?
If you must, at least go on a second day. They do run out of codes, so it'd be a bit goosey to snag an extra you don't really need.
Does anyone have HA Pidgey? I want to use a Mega Pidgeot, and even though the HA sucks / is overridden by the mega evolution, I like to have the HA just in case I decide I want it at some point in the future. Easier to get it now than later.

I have heard that GameStop gained the ability to print codes on a receipt after constantly running out of cards the first several giveaways.
Damn, that's a lot to take in. Also, seems like that leak from a while ago is confirmed.
There will be no traditional Gyms and no Pokémon League in Alola. Your goal is to actually create one. After you do, an Elite 4 will appear which are the leaders of each island
The final starter evolutions will be an Archer, a Wrestler and a Siren
The diamond stones will be collectible throughout the region and act similarly to Mega Stones but not exactly
New Pokémon based on a dolphin, sea cucumber, snowman, mushroom and a rugby monkey are there
Rockruff’s evolution is a Werewolf
Mashadow, another copyrighted Pokémon name, has a very unique type combo
There was also another part of the leak that correctly predicted the Alola Forms, though I can't find it at the moment.

I did manage to catch Lugia in a Heavy Ball, though.

Man, if rumors are true Sun/Moon will be a fairly big departure from the norm. Which for a Pokemon game is nearly unfathomable to me!
