Yep! Last night I finally felled the last wild tree on my plot. Fortunately I have over 100 of each type of seed so I can easily replant wherever I want, especially once I get enough tappers to set up a tree goo farm.
This is very much a game I didn't expect to like. I tried Rune Factory 4 a while back and got bored pretty quickly. However, I'm now 40 hours deep in this and want to keep playing.
Marnie has the worst work ethic. It took me a week of going to her place multiple times a day to finally buy four chickens.
Also, regarding playing on mac... Steam Streaming works. Kind of. If the game on the "host" PC is in fullscreen, all I get is a black screen on the mac. But if it's in windowed mode, it works pretty well.
Does this support more than one save file? I'd love to let my sister at this with her own save file.
Yes. It supports... at least 3, based on the save screen? But your characters have to have different names, or they'll overwrite each other apparently.

Well, she and you are literally the only farmers in town. She doesn't have a lot of customer pressure, exactly.

And yet funnily enough talk to her and she'll say something along the lines of "Feel free to buy animals off me!" followed by "I could use the money...".
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Why can I not stop playing this game? Midway through my first summer and largely just trundling around having fun. So relaxing.
I've been playing this with my fiancé - he doesn't like video games, really. But he watched me play stardew and gradually warmed up to it
Eventually he took the laptop from me and started playing himself
He loves it. He's said it's the best game He's ever played and it's certainly the only video game he will play without me
I don't understand why it's so lovely to play, but it hits so many pleasure centers. I think he likes it because you just plant crops and it's cute and nothing bad happens.

"Ewh....no".
That's not amethyst. That's a meteor with Iridium
And yes, need a gold
The meteor was a bit dissapointing actually. I got like 8 ores from it. not worth rushing the pickaxe just for it, but the pickaxe upgrades in general should be a priority.
Yeah, it's more like an eyesore that taunts you until you get the gold pickaxe in time to clear it out.
Iridium tools IMHO are the equivalent of gold-plating stuff. It's not necessary but if you've got nothing else to use iridium on...
Getting enough iridium sprinklers for your farm is far more pressing.
I would say it really depends on how much you're wanting to make. The iridium hoe and watering can are both imperative in getting your fields ready on that first day for planting with enough time to plant everything once you get back from the store.
Well, just remember that using the hoe won't break any "floors" you place, so as long as you aren't digging up tree saplings, it's still useful to get for the season transitions. Halving the amount of swings required to completely til and water a field is no joke for saving a ton of time.
hmmmm, I will admit that getting the fields ready on Spring 1 was a major pain in the ass with gold tools. For me, 252 squares of farmland to prepare and all of that land clearing was no joke. Next time though I'm probably going to put sacrificial crops that I know will not have a chance to finish growing just so that I only need to scythe the dead plants instead of tilling soil and then watering it.
Parsnips or tulips are the cheapest Spring seeds at 20g each
Wheat is the cheapest Summer seed at 10g each
Beats or eggplants are Fall's cheapest seeds at 20g each... but you're headed into winter so no need to have a sacrificial crop.
Winter into Spring is a little tricky, so you can use the winter forage seed packs.

Not exactly. The iridum upgraded pickaxe clears 90% of rocks in one swing which greatly increases progress in the mines. Only iridium ore veins and gemstone rocks take 2 or 3 swings.
I would love like, a clover or some other ground cover crop you could plant to keep fields tilled and watered while you wait for season transitions or whatever.
I kind of like that the beginning of spring is a big cleanup and restoration time. Makes the farming feel like real work, especially since the rest of the season is a breeze once you're on sprinklers.

It's pretty drastic. I stowed away 10 grass starters in my first winter planning on making sure there was plenty of grass for my animals to graze on. Day 1 of spring, the entire yard is overgrown with grass.

Wheat can grow in the fall, so it won't die. You end up having to axe it back up rather than scythe it.
Or you can time it so that you just harvest it. Some fall crops don't mind missing a night or two of growth. Not cranberries though - cranberries want every night of growth.

Yeah, I get what he was going for, but it's like the apocalypse happened on New Years Eve.
What, you can't propose in winter because the guys who sells the necklace never appears? Dammit! I got Abigail to 10 hearts at the end of fall and couldn't get rain before winter. I'm going to have to wait up all winter, seems.
Also, man, wish I had made more preserve jars and kegs before the material requirements went up. I can't really turn these cranberries into money anywhere near fast enough.

Eh, enjoy the pre-engagement. Abigail after marriage gets really heavy due to all the rocks shes been eating.

Unless you went the Joja route and need a lot more money, it's hard to see even untransformed cranberries not giving you $texas during harvests.
The cranberries did give me a pretty noticeable amount of money. I just kept the last hundred-something harvest in a box to transform during the winter. But upgrading my tools to gold is eating into a large chunk of my funds, while I would like to start thinking of getting a barn, and only having four kegs and two preserve jars makes the going slow.
At least my chickens and mayo maker are providing a very reliable source of small daily income.

Tappers produce oak resin in winter, and mining lower levels is surprisingly quick with a gold pickaxe. Preserve jars are quicker though. I preserved most of my cranberries during the winter.
This is why I am building a barn full of wine casks/preservers.
For those curious, most things are more profitable per day as jelly as opposed to wine/juice.
Example:
Cranberries sell for 130g
Silver Star Cranberries sell for 162g
Gold Star Cranberries are 195g
Cranberry Jelly sells for 310g
Cranberry wine sells for 390g (but takes 7 days to make, and the crop regrows after 5, leading to a backlog of crops)
Currently only the following net more money per day as wine than jelly.
-Rhubarb
-Melons
-Starfruit
-Ancient Fruit
-Pumpkins
-Hops (can't be pickled/jellied)
-Wheat (can't be pickled/jellied)
Keep in mind, you could always just toss all your harvests into bins and just process them as fast as you can. You can keep making money like this all the way through the winter. Or build a staggering amount of wine casks. Enough to process two harvests at the same time. That would get you the maximum amount of crops turned into wine, but would prevent any backlog.

Oh wow. They do kinda. I guess after the guardian destroyed Britannia the avatar just decided to start a farm. Give up the whole avatar of virtue thing.
My thoughts on kegs vs jars is that kegs maximise the profit per unit of good, while jars maximise cash flow at the expense of having a higher raw material requirement and ultimately, more time spent tending to making money.
Anything that's produced in small amounts like 12+ day growth crops is better off put through kegs because the volume of them isn't that high, but for stuff like fruit trees which produce every single day you're better off making jam out of them because they'll clog up the limited time slots in the kegs.
Not that it matters much in the end. There's no massive money sink at the end of the game so it's really just getting the foundations down and once you've bought your buildings, purchased your animals and made an orchard, there's not much else to do with money.

Pretty much this. I am going the wine route personally, and just shoving the plain fruit/crops in there. Anything silver or gold quality I will just sell outright. Or anything I don't have enough kegs for.

It'll be nice when/if ConcernedApe puts a gold in / gold out system for processed items. Not just for the sell value but for stuff you'd eat for energy.

Yeah I was initially saving all my silver/gold crops under the assumption that they'd be useful in making higher quality things but from what I can tell for now the smart move is sell any higher quality everything* and keep the base quality for making stuff.
*barring the HQ stuff you need for bundles of course
I'm not sure how you can adjust for quality when it comes to cooking. Would 3 normals and one gold material mean a normal, silver or gold output?
Having the quality reflect on artisan goods would be great though since once you get a large number of jars/kegs, quality becomes meaningless since everything is going to get processed. Having three sizes of eggs/milk would also be good since that'll be a closer equivalence to normal/silver/gold.
Also, that will help with duck eggs being totally outclassed by chicken eggs since duck eggs cannot be large, hence you get more profit per day with chickens than you do with ducks.
