Well. This is a thing. It's a thing I now own, thanks to shdwcaster :D

I admit that I quite enjoyed HuniePop. Not sure about the direction this one went but hey, why not?

I think it might be the first game I've ever owned that came with a warning like this, though:

    Thanks... I think! <3<3<3

Is it wrong that when I saw this that I outright said "I bet five bucks someone launches this at Pixie before midnight"? And then found out that someone already had?

Though if someone still wants to giftbomb her again, I think she'd like this nice VN here: Solstice. I really like the art style and I think it's got plenty of potential.

Deadbolt really ramps up as it goes along. First 7 or so levels, okay, normal zombies to an elite big zombie unit to worry about, pretty bog standard unit progression. Now they're throwing curve balls like zombies that have had their heads removed and stored in a different place so headshotting them is much trickier, and then vampires are hanging out on ceilings.

And I also traveled through the pipes and exploded a zombie that was sitting on a toilet when I erupted out of it (and him).

So I've been playing Baldur's Gate and it's like I have been transported back to when I was 18 and addicted to it when it originally released. It's still such a fun game.

I just realized there is 'new' dlc for it. Is that previously unreleased dlc or new content they created. Either way that is pretty awesome.

I appreciate the recent inclusion of Story Mode. All my previous attempts at Baldur's Gate failed because its systems were a bit too obscure for me and I'm the kind of person who plays RPGs for the story and the characters.

So I'm thinking of giving it yet another go.

Wait, story mode? I'm late to this post, but I had problems with how the system worked. I never played D&D when THACO was a thing, and I never got how to do it right. And died a lot.

Story Mode is basically 'easier than easy' mode. Your characters can't die and you get significantly more XP, among other changes.

It's basically there for people who want to get the Baldur's Gate story but don't want to have to worry about the combat whatsoever.

So I have poor impulse control and because of this I bought yet another game, Until I Have You. Mainly because of its awesome cyberpunk style. It's also from the Primordia devs, but this time out they've made a platformer. It has a pretty interesting control scheme utilizing the mouse. The further away the mouse cursor is, the faster you run. You can accelerate and decelerate in the air too. It feels really funky at first but after a while it feels pretty natural. The levels and gameplay are built around the weird control scheme so it works better than you'd think too. Still, if that puts you off, you can use a controller. There are some launch issues but nothing that should Slain it (haha see what I did there?). And I had a pretty good support experience with the devs. The game refused to launch and the devs responded to my forum post almost instantly and from there we figured out the issues and came up with a workaround for the remaining issue while they work on a solid fix. Good stuff.

That honestly sound fantastic. I played it way back when, but I'd never beaten it, nor finished all the expansion, nor played the sequel past the first couple areas. Does the second one have this option as well?

Yeah. They created Story Mode for Icewind Dale EE, which is kind of funny considering Icewind Dale is basically Baldur's Gate if it was focused almost exclusively on combat (vs Planescape Torment which is Baldur's Gate if it was focused almost exclusively on story), but they've added it to BG and BG2.

Easy Mode is easy mode, Story Mode is I win mode. If you do want to learn to play noob there is a pretty solid tutorial that goes through the mechanics of dialogue, combat, magic, healing, etc but neglects a lot of the weird stuff about old D&D (armor class, status effects, etc). There is a Baldur's Gate thread that would be happy to answer any questions about that sort of thing though. You can always change your difficulty level later if you decide the game is too hard or too easy.

Some people are complaining about one NPC because they're so very tired of seeing modern day gender politics/agendas being inserted to videogames (especially ones as venerable as Baldur's Gate), or they don't feel that the way the NPC's story was handled was appropriate (or respectful), or they don't feel that the inclusion was done for an entirely altruistic reason, or because they're just plain old bigots who hate trannies (or whatever). There are plenty of reasons why people would be voicing displeasure over the issue.

I've done a fair number of tech support jobs over the years, though thankfully fewer of those than QA or dev positions. If you're actually working for the company whose products you're supporting, it can be pretty good after a few months once you know what you're doing and have enough newbies around that you feel like a mentor.

If you're working for an outsourcer, the only release is death.

After descending into the pits of the internet and reading pretty widely what the problem is, you are in fact entirely correct. We have a disconnect between people who accept a setting with giant spiders that have swords for legs (quite literally), magic and dragons but who think a trans character being openly trans is "going too far". This is ignoring all the magic, Edwin/Edwina from BG2 and so forth. Essentially the majority of people I've found complaining about "The writing" are full of absolute shit and can't name a single problem with the writing beyond a throw away meme line (of which, BG/BG2 have many such examples) and the way a transgender character doesn't express suitable fear about telling you they are. There is almost no coherent argument that the writing is bad that doesn't revolve around those two particular things, both minor aspects of the entire game as a whole.

It's maximally disingenuous and it's immensely obvious to anyone who investigates why they are complaining what this is really about. Throwaway lines to "Bugs" and similar are a smokescreen to hide the obvious agenda.

The Zee is cruel and harsh.

Even on plays where things did go well I've often had captains that turned cannibal or burned London to the ground to say nothing of the sheer amount of crew members I've sacrificed for various purposes.

Note that if you lift the curse before heading home, you can save your family but that's not always going to be feasible. In most case it probably isn't.

Yes. But you can sell them at various ports around the place and the bonus for creating them it gives you is permanent. The other part of their stat bonus only works if it is equipped to your ship though, so bear that in mind while you drag it around the Zee. You can find things that will permanently give boosts to future zee captains as well, but I haven't found any of them myself.

Having a trans character or being "progressive" is not an excuse for bad reviews complaining about bugs. Regardless of the content of the story, significant numbers of people are running into bugs in Dragonspear. If everyone was complaining about a nebulously "buggy" game you might be right, but when tons of people are all mentioning the same bugs (mainly with multiplayer and character importing) you can tell it's an issue with the game being buggy, not some internet boogeyman trying to push an agenda. The only agenda I am seeing is that the game's developer is literally begging people on the game's forum to post positive reviews on Steam and gog.

Gamers have waited seventeen years for a Baldur's Gate expansion, I'm pretty sure they would have been ok waiting a few more weeks for some more QA work to be done.

You are not paying attention to what is going on. It's honestly that simple, because the reviews of the game on the one platform where people have to own it before they can leave a review are mostly positive. Negative reviews are being upvoted by a brigade - not disaffected users running into bugs. One of the reviews was 86% upvoted as helpful due to a problem with mods, once it the issue was fixed and then changed to "recommended" from "not recommended" it plunged to 22% (as of current writing).

Do you think a review that changes based on the developer fixing the issue should go from 86% upvoted when it was negative to suddenly being 22% (it was 13% when I looked at it) now that it recommends the game? Like, the developer responded only a couple of days after release and actually fixed their issue, so why would the review that says the issue was fixed and they changed the review to recommended suddenly drop to 22%? Do you have a coherent answer to this?

You literally do not have any idea what you're talking about. So just stop.

I heard about that expansion being kinda buggy way before I heard about all this trans-character stuff.

Can't you just...ignore that character? I haven't played it yet but those games are huge, I can't imagine their gender identity plays that big of a role. Plus this is the series with a belt that changes your gender and a man who thinks he has a miniature giant space hamster. Someone who said they wanted to swap genders is like the most mundane thing on the sword coast.
