I keep having fun with the game and then having just immensely unfun matches. I really dislike that the enemy team can setup right outside of the spawn point for objective attack matches. My team can literally not get out of the spawn.
Besides this issue...which is pretty much a problem for all competitive games these days this and battle-born have pulled me in surprisingly. I'm usually not that keen on shooters but it's just something about these games.
They don't feel as hardcore I guess, losing isn't as frustrating.
Hmm. Depending on map, abusing the heal zone and people with ranged explosives can help.
We tried that but there was a Reinhardt sitting in a corner shielding a Bastion and a Mei kept ice walling exits. I tried to boost past them using D.Va but I kept getting blasted fairly easily. It was fun.
But yea, overall I enjoy the game, something about it is kind of off putting though. I cannot place my finger on it but it makes me kind of unsure on whether I want to buy the game or not. I still have not played with any friends yet so maybe after I finally do that I will feel more comfortable.

So I have a pair of Tracer games where I felt like I was doing a Good Job running around annoying people, but I dunno if I really contributed much to the team. Any thoughts? Tracer 1 Tracer 2
This one I died way more often in but I also stickied a Torbjorn and his turret a couple of times so I was pleased with that. Tracer + Reinhardt
Not sure why that one wound up so choppy.
Also guys this game is so good. It's easily one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played; yeah, it's super frustrating when the opposing team has a good Widowmaker or Bastion and your team either can't deal with them while you push or won't push while you deal with them, but that's, like, 5% of matches and like 50% of matches are super sick.
Wow I think I was really on point tonight. Really kicking butt, racking up loads of kills, and managing to stay alive when my teammates died. First time I tried Mei and she is AMAZING.. Also was totally rocking Dva. And to top it all off right at the end of a match we lost the enemy Mcree started his ult. I went around the corner and shotgunned him right down, and in slow motion as the defeat was being displayed, his limp body flew back and rotated horizontally, smashing against the wall of the building 20 feet behind him. And I didn't care a bit that we'd lost because I was giggling too much.
Winston is in a plain sucky spot. His arc cannon has wretched damage coupled with a very short range and it only hits in a forward arc, so trying to bump up that DPS by hitting multiple people is frequently pointless. His ult is also crap, as the damage from landing the hits is pretty poor and it knocks people waaaay away from Winston, which is exactly where you don't want them to be on a follow-up swing. His bubble shield is weak to the point of being worthless; it frequently pops within a couple of seconds of going up, so it does a bad job of protecting anyone from anything.
The damage on his leap is also garbage, but it's a good enough mobility option that it doesn't really need changing if they give him some actual hitting power and make his shield actually matter. It's silly that Reinhardt's shield has such massive HP and is mobile, but Winston's shield has no staying power.
Well your problem here is that you're thinking that your job with winston is to deal lots of damage
Winston is good for killling or chasing off the low-health assassin-y types (which reinhardt can't do much about), but even more than that what he's about is disruption. The shield won't stand up to targeted fire, but it works great for giving you and your teammates an edge for a few seconds, like in a team fight. And his ult disrupts the hell out of the enemy team, knocks them off cap points, and helps you hold onto a point for a few seconds while your team catches up with you.
If those aren't things you don't need in your current match, then don't play winston, play some other tank. But a lot of times that skillset can be very valuable.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

I ran into a team doing that kind of settup a few times...wonder if it was the same people, can't remember their names but a voiped team is going to absolutely dominate in overwatch. The heroes just mesh so well together.
I don't think this one is for me. The matchmaking is terrible: I keep getting dropped into games that are within seconds of ending. I even got dumped into a game that ended after 5s, then people dropped, so it matchmade me to another game that ended the instant I was dropped in (Defeats, always defeats).
Second, I feel like no matter what hero I play, I do fuck all damage to anyone, while no matter who I play as, I'm dead in seconds. I assume that the internet in general is just that much better at head shots than I.
Oh well. I wanted to like it, but honestly I think I mostly just like the cinematic trailers. I want to watch that movie, see these characters do shit, but then it's just murderspam with Tracer shoulder to shoulder with Widow and none of it makes sense.
Enjoy, folks.

You gotta admit, the epic battles in this game make up for the stompings and teams full of quitters. Down 43-99 in Round 3 of the Chinese CTP map just now, we went into Overtime and just kept pumping Winstons and exploding D.Va's onto the point until we pulled out a magnificent 100-99 win.
I figured out the thing that feels wrong about combat.
You can run and fire through friendly players. I think they should look into at least removing the ability to fire through friendlies. It makes choke points insane spammy things and takes a lot of the advantage of surprise in the back-lines away. If you come up on a healer from behind, the entire team shouldn't be able to turn and shoot you through the healer. It's especially bad with things like McCrees grenade that are already incredibly generous with their hitbox.
That would make being Reinhardt really challenging, since suddenly your giant metal ass is in the way, not protective.

Yup. I guess you'd have to actually weigh the cost of you standing in a doorway versus covering it with your shield.

God damn, I'm gonna have to learn McCree, aren't I? Had a game on Ilios were the other team was Widowmaker, Pharah, Roadhog, Winston, Reinhardt, Lucio. The first two kept me, as my usual Junkrat, from doing anything, which prevented my team from doing anything because Pharah and the tanks would just walk all over us. I tried switching to 76 but it just didn't cut it for tank busting, I can't widowmaker for shit and hanzo/genji aren't the best anti-pharah tech.

Winston's my go-to Widow killer. The key to playing him (when not targeting a solo Widow) is to jump in, disrupt the enemy team, and jump back out to get some healing. It's a pretty similar play style to D.Va.
I didn't catch the name, but the king of the hill map where the first point is a giant well is so good Damn fun as Lucio. Booped soooo many people into the abyss on the first two points.

If the match timer runs out and both teams are still contesting the objective, it will go into overtime.
So long as both teams are present on the objective it will refresh the overtime indefinitely.
Once there is only one team on the objective the overtime timer will drop over the course of a few seconds and the match will end.
If the opposing team manages to get back on the objective before the overtime timer runs out, it resets once more and the match continues until the above condition is filled.

But the unlock system is trash. It would be trash in a f2p, it's absolutely asinine when you plan to sell the game at $40 a pop.
...the cosmetic system is what's making you not like the game?
I guess everyone has their own priorities, I'm just here to shoot mans
Um? Yes.
The knowledge that I can't even actively work towards an unlock I want and it's basically entirely at the whim of RNG is a big downside.
but... but you can? The purchasing system is there. RNG will determine how quickly you'll be getting the credits together, but I was like "okay I want precisely two things" (highlight intro for junk and symm) and I got them both with credits within like 4 days. If you just play the game regularly because you enjoy it it shouldn't take you all that long to get together the stuff you like.
And if you get unlucky? There's diminishing returns on ability to unlock stuff.
There is not diminishing returns on unlocks. Its basically linear. To be precise, the xp required to level increases from level 1-23, from 23 and beyond its always the same amount, 22k, up to level 101. At level 101, they upgrade your player icon frame from copper to silver and reset you back to level 1, and the xp to level resets back to level 1 as well. This process of leveling from 1-100 will repeat a very large number of times.
In addition, as your collection expands, you will get more and more duplicate unlocks which reward currency so the currency gain will actually speed up over time.

I wonder if they plan on doing more balance passes before release. I feel like some of the utility or non "press button, kill all the mans" supers are really lackluster. In a choice between Tracer and Genji for example, why would anyone pick Genji? Some skills have cool synergy, like Zarya Q with any other "press button, kill all the mans" ult. The utility stuff seems to have it's spot, but I think building a teleporter is a crappy special ability from a fun standpoint... You're basically the portal-bitch until the first objective gets taken at which point you should probably switch to something useful.
Hitboxes are still too generous and movement is too slow to have hitscan weapons. A good McCree, Widowmaker or 76 will always dump on everyone everywhere.
The game is pretty cool and the character design is great thematically. I just hope they can tune some of it a bit without the massive power fluctuations that can happen when you patch on a Blizzard timetable.
Kind of sad that i'm going to lose the cute spray I got for that achievement but I'm sure i'll get it again some time after retail starts. That along with the Genji one for killing two people with one deflection.

While they have similar roles, Tracer and Genji do different things. For example, while a Bastion will chew up a Tracer, Genji's a good counter because of his deflect. Also, a well timed Genji ult is terrifying and can wreck the enemy team. As far as Symmetra goes, I quite like her. She'll mess up all but a few heroes if they get too close.
Honestly, a lot of your post screams of "I only played an hour or two." That's fine. Maybe it just didn't click or something, but these balance issues you're talking about aren't balance issues at all.
I keep seeing people say Genji is a Bastion counter. Maybe if Bastion is awful and doesn't let go of left click? I also said nothing about liking or not liking Symmetra. Tracer is just very very good and I would argue is a lot more likely to get behind and murder a stationary Bastion than a Genji would be. Also, assuming the game is just too complex (it isn't) for people to form opinions about it and have ideas on it after a few days is kind of goofy.
A thing you like can have flaws and still be fun.
Edit: Also, Hitboxes are definitely all sorts of crazy. Many models headshot location is anything above their chest, including the air, it's been tested a bit and depending on the character weapon it can grow or shrink. One of such videos.
The Roadhog hook hit location is actually the most surprising.
