What's the best way to get crafting materials that aren't DBs or forgotten souls? And I know you can convert between them. If it's always pick up everything, I think I'd rather run more rifts and Grifts for items and forget about crafting altogether. :P
akjak, yeah the hardest part about that achievement is getting a good floor. I definitely suggest getting a group together for it. If everyone has solid dps, it shouldn't be to bad if everyone splits up and you have a designated person that ports out, while rest killed the boss. I hate how it's from open to close.

If you don't want to pick up lots of shit, I'd suggest GRs since the high lvls ones dropped decent sized stacks of the mats and you salvage all the junk Kadala into crystals. Sadly, the most efficient way is to pick up everything though.

Honestly? Run around the A5 Battlefields and pick up all of the white items from the weapon/armor piles. White items convert to white mats at a higher return than blue or yellow convert to their respective mats. Just convert them into the other two as needed.
The most efficient way to get materials that are not souls and death breaths is running chapter 5 in campaign mode and doing the Templar side.
Salvaging white items yields 2-8 reusable parts so they're considered the highest yield of material per inventory space.
A5 Battlefields is pretty good but the armor piles are pretty inconsistent in terms of spawn location but its the next best thing if you can't get access to chapter 5's Templar quest.
Woop, while farming for my ancient Uliana weapons I managed to finish up the stash tab part of the journey using sunwuko+incense torch to farm grift 70 for 3 gems to 65. And the same run that gets me the third gem to 65 gets me the ancient Lions roar I was missing! I probably would finish up the journey proper if not for overwatch releasing tomorrow night.
Monk was way more fun to play than I thought, although I did end up running their range build. Me and melee just don't get along.
the 2 min achiev ain't bad, just do it with a couple others, enter rift with an open map, split up, don't pick up anything. my friends and I did it three times on Wednesday.
Remaking until you get one of the large maps is probably an effective, if boring, way to go about it. If you get one of the new snow maps from A3 you're probably good to go. Those things are packed with elites. A large cemetery is rare but same thing, tons of elites and wide areas for them to notice you from.
Some of it depends on spec. Hamelin can be a huge pain for some classes, but for my Firebird Archon Wizard he basically spawns damage multipliers/extra CDR from always having multiple targets to hit.
That being said, I did my 65 last night, and I swear the game just conspired to make it the worst experience possible. First map was a giant corridor filled with succubi and their terrible hardhitting ranged attacks (against which I have no defense except try to dodge, because firebirds archon is about freezing enemies that melee you for Parthans), and the second map was full of dune stingers. Again on a giant corridor. I still made it but I had died 9 times and had 1 minute left.
RNG gave me Perdition three times in a row but I still managed to beat the timer despite him roflstomping me with his teleport bs.
Stash tab get. Screw you Perdition.
What class are you playing? If you have something that makes you invulnerable on a low/zero cooldown (Vault, Dashing Strike, etc) you can effectively dodge it. If you're able to face tank him he should still have a pattern. I think it's two swipes->aoe->two swipes->teleport. Or it might be three swipes. Either way he has/d some kind of pattern as long as he's focused on you. That, and when he drops his head he's about to teleport anyways so you're given time to react.
Once you're not his primary target it becomes a little more random from what I've seen.
I also haven't played in a while, nor have I actually tried to read anything he does anymore since my monk doesn't have to give a shit and all I do against most bosses is hold down left click the entire time so...

L - Punish: Fury
R - Shield Bash: Crumble
1 - Shield Glare: Zealous Glare
2 - Steed Charge: Endurance
3 - Laws of Justice: Decaying Strength
4 - Consecration: Bathed in Light
Passives
Heavenly Strength
Hold Your Ground
Finery
Towering Shield
It's kind of a difficult build to keep up, but not too difficult. Basically, you need to keep your Rolands 5 shield bash bonus up constantly and never miss a bash, because they all go into your Shield Glare which is now omnidirectional and hits absolutely everything for 15-20 billion.
I've considered getting rid of the Helm but honestly there's a dearth of gear here. I've considered getting rid of the RORG and going with Focus/Restraint instead of Endless Walk and go with an Ess of Johan or well-rolled Flavor of Time until I can snag a proper Hellfire Ammy so I can put up Divine Fortress, Indestructible, or Insurmountable.
Firebird's Finery has been the focus of a lot of community discussion since the launch of Patch 2.4.1. As the patch and current Season settle in, we want to take a moment to share development insight on what's coming for this powerful class set in the future.
Firebird’s Finery has come a long way since its original implementation. We’re really happy with its theme. It’s the Fire set for Wizards and puts you in a place where you can burninate all the things. That’s awesome, we like that, and we want to preserve that feeling. On the other hand, we’re not happy with the bugs we’ve encountered and it’s become clear we need to take a new approach. We’re working on a fix that will be introduced in a future patch.
So, what does that mean for Season 6? There are a lot of players who have pushed hard and reached high ranks with these unintended bugs. However, we don’t want to punish players for working within the parameters given to them. To that end, the current functionality will remain intact for the duration of Season 6 . Once these bugs have been resolved, you can expect that the power level of Firebird’s will be much more in line with other sets.

Based on my limited experience with the set, I assume they've never been able to get the damage buff to reliably fall off when it's supposed to?
The only bug with fb is sometimes the elite bonus gets stuck on, and I don't know how to pull it off (seems random for me)
Its certainly not the end of the world in terms of clears because you still have a stack cap
There is a way to trigger that bug reliably, but there's also another bug with DoT and a way to do way more damage than intended.
I don't want to get too into details, they're available elsewhere.
The DoT thing is not a bug its how the mechanic has worked since 2014, if you're talking about how spells cast right at the point the dot falls off retain the damage amp given at the time (snapshotting it) and then they still scale with the new build up as well
The above bug just makes the DoT thing more of an issue
Being present since 2014 doesn't mean it's not a bug, unless I missed Blizzard saying it isn't. Sometimes bugs get left alone.
We don't know exactly what the changes will be and I didn't mean to come off as the sky is falling, just sharing their intentions to diminish the set's current potential.

theorycrafters have pointed it out to blizzard again and again and they've been like "yes that's how its meant to work"
i was more asking if that's the bug you were referring to because a lot of people were complaining about that to blizzard in this instance and it wasn't something else
Wait, maybe we're not talking about the same thing?
The trick I'm referring to specifically avoids the build up, so no perma-dot, instead maximizing the temporary one.
edit - If we are actually talking about the same thing, then ya, it's kinda tricky to call that a bug or not because it's really a combination of factors. It's the kind of thing that was fine at the time, but can now be pushed to absurd levels.
Been too long since I've seen most of my PA friends in D3, and too long since I've really actually played some D3. It's been absolutely crazy with work and personal life for too long.
Met a girl last year, she's great and her and I and her kids and mine get along great - awesome.
Things started to get more serious, ended up moving in with her - awesome.
Had a house fire on April 7th, most of the pets didn't make it and most everything in the house was a loss. Finally somewhat resettled in a new place, thankful that we still have each other and will be stronger than ever before.
I hope to get on and join you all once again, I'll be limping along for a while though since the work laptop isn't all that great for gaming. My gaming rig is toast as was the backup NAS that burned next to it before getting chucked out the window (good lord did the fire crews put some distance on it too) when they were knocking down the fire but I was able to get pic's of the kid recovered at least. Once I slowly get pieces together for a new rig I'll be on more often
Thanks for powerleveling me last season @Sneakman - I wish I had been able to put the toon to more use before things when crazy.
Well blizzard has made changes to skills and things in the past and described it as "fixed the bug that caused............" rather than describe it as just a skill or effect change.
Basically I'm hoping that their idea of a bug isn't "firebird works while in archon mode" or "firebird dmg works from chantodos proc". I'm not sure what bugs they would be referring to, I'm not sure I've noticed any while playing. Doesn't mean there haven't been any. I'm just not sure what the hell they are talking about with bugs.

Now if I could just stay connected long enough to finish getting my HC powerlevel...
Or it's my computer. Won't be back for a while.

not sure how high the build can go. definitely higher.
edit: sorry. 2 VYR / 6 FB. Not 2 tal.
Would you be willing to link your build? That sounds like exactly what my wife wants to be doing.
I have to give real credit to @SkyAndPie for showing me this build.

I'm not on much at convenient times for others but I have a DH capable of HC powerleveling others, too.

I'll just say it's an unintuitive variant of the 2vyr/5fb build.
