Got in to the beta, but it's wasted on me. I don't need it to decide if I'll buy the DLC (spoiler: I will), and I don't want to spoil myself on the new goodies.
sounds fine. most of those numbers look way too low, like the bone spear and death nova ones are not particularly strong and they have no counterpart to go with them. look at what unstable scepter+triumvirate and nilfur+grand vizer do for arcane orb and meteor, then look at what necros get.
The "Each different skill" part seems to imply that you could stack it.
If so, just for example, you could easily have a Bone-set pet build that would easily maintain 400% bonus damage, going up to 500% when you hit golem.
That's on the order of Ring of Emptiness and Swami, so damn powerful that not using it is a handicap. All the Physical and Cold runes would be rendered useless.
e: If not, then it is currently very poorly worded.

It DOES stack 3-4 times before each levels timer wears out. There was an item that gives cold rune stuff damage reduction afaik. Don't remember physical buffs.
edit: I think Jars was saying that the base damage on the poison skills like bone spear were low, so the 300% buff wasn't too big of a deal. But this item IS what most of the top ladder people are using with the poison aoe mages (with the double mage ring) and it DOES work well.
I think most runes are fairly similar in damage, except the hp spenders tend to have a boost.
But anyway, I think it would be ok if the pet set is poison only for now, as long as the scythe doesn't also take over plague and saint. At least it can't be used in Blood, because those are all physical.
Like Jars said, the spear and death nova scythes aren't looking to good in comparison, so this could stay and those could be buffed.
what I'm saying is that adding 300% damage to poison skills isn't very much when a wizard can add 1200% damage to arcane orb. and the other weapons are significantly weaker
the necro legendaries are not very strong. maybe they're still missing offhand legendaries
played with the bone armor set a bit, it feels pretty cohesive. the damage from bone armor stacks is probably the hotness now, but I liked the 100% to inflict curses too since I wasn't running frailty and my trang'ouls is ancient
I finally got into the necromancer beta and futzed around a little. Decided not to copy anything over and just do it the old fashioned way, which has been interesting. I'm not leveling super fast, but I kind of don't want to so I have a bit more time to experiment with abilities as they show up. I've mostly been doing pets and corpse explosion, I like how the pets are more interactive than the witch doctor. Corpse explosion is great fun, though my buddy was there with me using revive and that seemed pretty effective too. I'm not too worried about the high end stuff right now, there's still a good amount of time to balance that before they start asking people for money to play necromancers.

I did transfer my stuff but not for any real reason, necro is still my only character for the season
level 41 now. I do like the class, and I really enjoy eating corpses. mana management via devouring dead enemies is highly appealing.
thematically devour is dumb to me. necros raise corpses, not eat them. it's a decent ability though, the heal rune makes it a nice second potion and you can generate corpses with skeleton mage against RGs.
I hate the interactivity with bone spirit though. bone spirit is so much micromanaging for a not very good ability.
I finished season and got my stash tab(yay!). Now I can just fart around doing whatever. Cleaned up the stash a bit and then hopped on my wizard to try out one of those manald heal/archon lightning builds. Man is that fun!
So ya, that poison scythe and the 1h that buffs secondaries became an immediate favorite combo on the leaderboards.
Saw someone had cleared gr100 with it, using Bone with just mages.
So like, it's good to see that the set can do more than just be 4pets+army+gen, but to only use one pet type in the "pet set" is pretty messed up.
E: I mean, what's necro without skele warriors?!? At least the phylactery that gradually buffs their damage is pretty cool, alongside the change to their targetting that keeps them focused until they kill the target. Seemed like it capped out around 5x skele damage on a rift guardian.

It's almost nice that I reliably get disconnected from the necro beta so I can't play for too long but I do wish it would quit happening when I'm so close to finishing a bounty or rift. terrible timing every time.
Think I'm gonna jump into S10 today (better late than never, I guess lol) and I think I'll play a Wizard for the first time since vanilla. Is anyone planning on playing today that wouldn't mind helping power level me if they see me online in the clan, or has everyone pretty much abandoned ship for the season?
I'm still playing. Hit me up if you see me. Should be around at 1pm or so est.
AlWatts actually just hopped on and ran me to 70, and Vaults like a super classy gentleman. Thanks for the offer though!
Double thanks to al_wat for spending some of his time to get me started. Very much appreciated.

I can finally afford to buy something from the PTR vendor but I am not totally sure what I am looking at
also I can't remember if I should wait til max level to buy things like that. not in a rush to spend my blood shards considering I just hit 200 but I want to be able to plan ahead/know what I'm getting into and when. thanks for anyone with advice!

I wish the necro beta worked for me at all, maybe I can uninstall the test realm and reinstall it?

If you're mimic'ing the leaderboards for the sickness with the Rathma set I highly suggest numlocking devour -cannibalize . instead of devouring aura
it's 2x faster casting for those land of the dead moments and a much larger area when your not LoD'ing so you wont have to slow down for your essence gain
plus the 3% life per corpse helps a shitton

70ish vs 150ish stacks
now im wandering if cannibal or satiate is better.
necro is so squishie if the skeleton mage stacks fall off (which happens alot to me because some of these new tile sets have huge gaps in monster spawns)
I'm still hoping the 4p bonuses aren't final, every last one of them is bad.
The 50% standard 4pc may be kinda boring flavor wise, but at least you aren't made more vulnerable just because of density or dying on an RG without adds.
TTODewbackPuts the drawl in ya'llI think I'm in HellRegistered Userregular
so im going to try the following
devour - satiate (basically a perm +25% life buff)
and swap out servitude (25% duration on mage.) passive with the one that spawns health globes when munching corpses (kinda to see if it works with land of the dead)
A few days ago I played some more of the Necro beta, and since my buddy was doing the golem/skeleton/revive thing I decided to try a no pet build. It was pretty fun, but we've only gotten to level 51 so far so I have no idea how viable it is or if it is supported by any of the sets. We did also verify that each necromancer has their own corpse supply, so you don't have to worry about somebody else using corpses you were counting on.
Also Land of the Dead + Corpse Explosion spam + Bone Spirit (I think Bone Spirit, the homing one with charges that you can regenerate by eating corpses) is a heck of a lot of fun, but 120 seconds is rather a long cooldown.
There’s a lot of great discussion and a ton of build sharing going on around Legacy of Nightmares builds for the Witch Doctor that focus on the interaction between Spirit Barrage (Phantasms) and several pet-oriented Legendary powers. It’s wonderful to see such constructive conversation and information sharing as various community members explore the strengths and intricacies of this emergent gameplay.
There has also been some concern that this interaction will be nerfed. We wanted to share our thoughts on this today and reassure the Witch Doctor community that, at this time, we have no intentions to make changes to Spirit Barrage (Phantasms) or its currently existing interactions with items such as Mask of Jeram, Ring of Emptiness or The Barber.
While this is somewhat inconsistent philosophically from the changes that we’ve made in the past regarding this skill and rune combination, we looked at the situation objectively and asked ourselves a couple questions:
Is it fun?
Is it balanced?
Ultimately, we’ve decided that the answer to both of these questions is yes, and there is much higher risk in adjusting the balance of this skill or the other items than there is to let the community continue to enjoy this fun and unique build. We will continue monitoring its performance, of course, and we’re prepared to make any changes if something extreme arises. In the meantime, please continue to theorycraft and Spirit Barrage to your heart’s content!

so this is like the opposite of the RoE/helltooth decision then huh

Also opposite the decision to exclude phantasm from the zuni 6 effect, but apparently not every other pet buff. :rotate:

I haven't really paid attention to the leaderboards, but I was tinkering with a poison/inarius set build rather than rathma because, well it just stinks to be using only mages for pets. I tried a poison rathma build, and it just felt like such cheese (not to mention awful having to keep those damn mages up -- I even had them on my right mouse button to make it easier and more reflexive). So instead, I built a bone armor poison setup that so far is pretty promising (siphon/death nova/devour/golem/LoD/bone armor). I've been tinkering with passives, which I still think all suck something awful.
I still can't get over the squishiness once you hit T13/grift 60. My squishiest DH is tougher than this! Any grift floor with a lot of projectile throwing monsters, and it's just ugly. I try to run as fast as possible through those rift floors. I might have to try the devour/cannibalize with the num lock trick. That sounds like it may help a lot.
Has anyone noticed that siphon blood tends to make you get stuck a lot? (as in, can't move because instead of moving, it tries to siphon from the nearest target. In any density, it's flat out impossible to move, thus getting you killed instantly). I may have to return to scythe or bone spikes and see if those work better with this build.
I've easily cleared grift 60 with the rathma set and feel like there was room to go up with the right mobs/tilesets. I also managed to pretty easily clear grift 55 with my inarius build. It feels like some more tinkering and that one will be pretty solid, too.

Uhhhhhhhh...
I'm going to assume this is just meant to guide testers to use poison runes, like when LoN was 800%

I get they wanted to bring it back from d2, but the charges and cooldown ruin it.
Edit: Got kicked out of a Greater Rift which sucks.
Wonder if Blizzard was having issues at this time since I got disconnected from HotS at around the same time.

No reason to use the aura then if you're down with that trick.

Yeah
I did this and nothing changed, still unable to initialize d3d or whatever
Its not actually a big deal since I haven't had much time for diablo lately and I'm almost certain to get the necro dlc anyway if the price is right
I guess old and busted just couldn't handle the POWER of SEVEN SIDED STRIKE ALL THE THINGS.
