I can pay $80 and get the entire 52 series, along with World War III, all bagged and boarded, which will entail me being poor for quite some time, or I can wait and get the trades as they're gradually released, which'll amount to pretty much the same amount of money in the long run (there are 4 trades, each $20, I think). What should I do?

Earth-4 is the Charlton Comics earth isn't it? Maybe Booster could bring back Vic Sage, because I don't like Renee as the Question. The Blue and Gold meeting was damned sad though and probably one of the most satisfying moments of the year.

ok dude
as much as I loooooove Vic Sage
Montoya has been the Question for like what, 10 pages?
Also, could anyone explain the part with Ralph? Did he open up a pit to hell or something? I missed it...

The bit with the hole was just a random thing. The implication is that Ralph and Sue, the ghosts, are going around and investigating supernatural mysteries now. The hole is one such mystery.
-Daniel Carter as Supernova
-Booster Gold saving the day
-Enormously heartwreching farewell between Booster and Skeets, without being overwrought
-Skeets is okay!
-Ralph and Sue Dibny-- Ghostectives!
-Black Adam and his Sobek boots
-Cool multiverse possibilities
-Vic Sage is okay.. kinda!
-Mr. Mind's back to being a neat little brain slug
-Charlton Earth!
-Rip Hunter shooting old men in the leg!
-This one's for the Blue and the Gold!
-New Isis?
-Booster Gold and Blue Beetle together again, even if only for a minute (Justiniano also draws a badass Ted)
CONS:
-Emaciated Sue Dibny (Dammit Robertson)
-That ad where some kid has an arm growing out of his chest. Really, what the Hell?
This issue almost sold me on getting Countdown, but I'm still waiting for the trades.

Give it some time
Seriously. I only hope that if she gets a mini, or appears in other books, she's drawn a bit more, feminine.
The way she looked in Week 52, well..it just looked like Vic Sage with a high hairline and crummy ponytail.

Yeah
She looked better in 48
what I'm really trying to say is
I want her mini to be a vertigo title
do you see where I am going with this?
I suppose it would be alright. I dunno, after JLU I was left loving the Question and found his 2005 mini series to be pretty amazing. But when I started following DC again, I was a little peeved to find they killed Ted and Vic, well Ted died in Infinite Crisis, but still. I suppose in time Renee'll grow on me, but at the same time I would like to see more Vic Sage.

Oddly enough, even though there is at least one, if not more, dead people on that cover, I do not see Ted Kord in any of those cards. I'd have maybe done away with Vic Sage or the DKR Robin and put him in.
Monarch in a card - nice touch, considering the Extreme Justice series.
And Earth-2 Adult Robin... hmm...
No spoilers needed; it's the damn front cover of the comic!

That's what I thought too... I mean, it was Khandaq, random person walking, wearing crocodile boots... I thought it made sense.

The 'someone will find him and I pray it isn't us' line made me think that it's someone hunting Adam at first, but the Sobek reminder has got me thinking otherwise now.
The thought of Sobek possessing someone with haunted boots is pretty funny though.
Although personally-
I wanna know what the kids were drawing more than anything else.
It's what makes the most sense to me. I mean, who else would it be?
Also, one more thought on the issue.
On the first read through it didn't even strike me that the Booster/Ted meeting could be any more sad. Then I realized that Booster was the reason Ted could never get the scarab to work; he burnt out its powers, leaving it to recharge for years. If Booster didn't take the scarab, Ted likely would have gone on to be an entirely different kind of superhero, with crazy ass invulnerability/lightning powers like Garrett, and probably would have never died at Max's hands. Booster helped kill his best friend to save the multiverse.
Well, that's my interpretation of it anyways. Plus it adds a different meaning to the whole, "You died a hero Ted," line.

It's a nice interpretation, and it does work to a point, but Ted never could get the scarab to work for him ever since he got it off of the original Blue Beetile.
Actually all the history of the scarab is so muddled now that it's hard to tell what's canon and not, so I just go with the most recent interpretation from the new Jaime Beetle book. Originally the scarab was buried in a cave-in, and that's why Ted couldn't use it, and went about making himself into a hero to honor his promise to Dan Garrett. Then he had it during CoIE, but didn't know the magic word, so he just hit shadow monsters with it to hurt them, but lost it. Then later in Countdown it was said that Carter Hall dug it up out of the collapsed tomb where Garrett died, and Ted had it for a few months, unable to make it work. Then in Jaime's book it was stated that Ted had always had the scarab since Garrett's death, but it wouldn't work for him because it had no power left in it.

I thought its inability to work for Ted & the different effect on Dan had to do with the Scarab being infected & damaged with magic.

I could be wrong but I think what happened was that the scarab formed chainmail for Garrett because it was only at half power, did nothing for Ted at all because it was completely unpowered, and worked for Jaime because it used the magical energies from the Shazam/Spectre battle to recharge itself to full power. I may be remembering that wrong though.

Yeah, I read the same interview on Newsarama. I meant the premise.
Though it looks like Supernova will be sticking around. Guess I should have picked up the action figure today.

The Booster going to Earth-4, that is.
You know I keep forgetting there was one before Ted.

Get the whole series plus WWIII.
Now.

But my head's all "you will have no money." It's hard to say which has the better argument.
But you're saving money by not having to buy all four issues of WWIII when you get the trades.
It's a win.

And with Booster Gold getting an ongoing, I hope

Yeah, crocodile skin boots may be a bit flamboyant for his tastes.
It's definitely Sobek, though.
