As I said earlier, I'm fine with Kankri's negativity because I've seen plenty of real examples where people have been a too eager to make themselves look good and have put no thought towards helping others. It's why I find him such a hopeful character, because if he, with a little maturity, becomes a great person then maybe the same will happen with the people on tumblr that act the same way. Hey, I can dream.
Kankri's just a person who wants to be right but he doesn't have much love for others (I think he does care about the other trolls, but he'd rather be better than them than admit it). And it flips with Porrim, who loves everyone, and the Sufferer, who also loves everyone.
I don't know, dude is 19 (maybe older due to ghost time) and has apparently been doing the same thing for a while. Even with Porrim there he doesn't sound like he gotten better. I agree it's a cool contrast with the Sufferer.
Kankri was poorly received in 2012 as well. It's only when put next to Porrim that it becomes clear he's a parody of like, white dudes who are in it just for personal attention. Dudes that won't hesitate to harass or call out underprivileged people because they ultimately don't really care about affecting change and just want to hear the sound of their own voice.
Honestly he might be one of the better ones...? I mean Mituna is probably the worst from a writing perspective because you can't poke fun at an internet community while also having the guy be literally brain damaged.
plus you can't even say "well the dancestors weren't around long, maybe if he had more time to be more fleshed out" because the dude already got obnoxiously long walls of text
not having enough time to express himself is not the issue
i identified a lot with Kankri when he got revealed.
Now i think past me is a shithead.
So i guess i went back to identifying with Karkat.
I am pretty sure for a lot of people if they can't say that about themself, they might still be one.
Of course this isn't always true, but I think everyone has some personal growth over time. Especially with what is happening in the world lately.
I know I personally would look back on me 3-4 years ago and say I was a shithead in more ways than one. I have a few times gone back and read some ooooooollllllllddddd posts here to remember the good times, and I know quite a few people who would be appalled by the way they used to talk back then.

Hey, if you've finished Undertale, Toby's got a vote on your favorite version of Aaron.

Is he a parody of the tumblr SJW who use silly words like "Cis" and "trigger warning"? (Which was something much more acceptable in 2012.)
Is he a parody of the bad/young in-experienced people involved in SJ? Someone like from that SU thing mentioned before?
Is he a bad ally who is more willing to look important then to actually let disabled people talk?
I think his character is too muddled and badly written to say clearly what he is.

"Stream of conciousness" describes Kankri pretty well, which is unfortunate in a couple of ways

Luke and I talked about how I would often think "I'm not cis, I'm normal."
Which like, you actually are right past me, just not in the way you think.

No, you're thinking of "sear".
He really does slow down on the asshole a lot and just become really weird. I guess isolation (minus the bard) does that or something.
