Holy crap, I thought you were joking and this was some reference to his play in the all star game. But no. Kyrie Irving is really a flat earther.

I guess nothing should be surprising anymore, but damn...

Also - Yay, Boogie to New Orleans! I don't follow the team enough these days, so that might be a desaster waiting to happen.

I try and pay attention to NOLA sports but the Pelicans are too badly mismanaged and unlucky w/ injuries that I've had to look away

But hot damn, two top ~15-20 talents together on the same team, Davis 23yo and Boogie 26...

Even if it kind of goes against modern NBA sensibilities in some ways re: frontcourt, these two players in particular are able to make a modern pace-and-space twin-towers approach workable

NO just became my new favorite team to watch by about 1000%. Either it turns out great and super fun to watch or implodes in the most over the top fashion ever. Glorious!

Kings got robbed, Ainge probably shot himself in the foot by trying to get boogie for absolutely nothing instead of mostly nothing, and Hinkie is the best.

    Pick swap here we go.

I kind of really want Sam Hinkie to be the new GM/VP of Basketball Operations in Sacramento.

I hated Hinkie's cynical approach when it came to the roster but there's no doubt the man knows how to acquire assets. Vivek hasn't shown himself to be very patient at all though so I doubt he'd be able to stomach The Process™

The thing I read made a decent point, in that Vivek can be likened to Dan Snyder, who is a meddlesome fool but eventually hired 2 dudes who turned his team from trainwreck to mediocre and (apart from the RG3 saga) you don't hear much about Snyder's involvement anymore. Hinkie could be that hire for them possibly.

The problem for Kings fans, as The Ringer's Riley McAfee points out, is this is the preferred state of things. Because Vivek rescued the Kings from moving to Seattle, the fans can't exactly chant "sell the team" or anything. There's no team without him.

I really hope Cousins' demeanor vastly improves so this really blows up in the Kings' face. A guy should have a right to be super annoyed when he's working for such an inept organization.

Assuming Snyder has actually stepped back that only took what 15 years? I think this is another franchise that Silver is going to need to intervene with. No team's fans deserve a GM that can't understand even the basics of the CBA let alone an owner that knows so little about the sport and is so obsessed with getting the next Curry that he searches for that player in the most mediocre of talents.

Interesting side note: the Grizzlies are 10 games over .500 and Dave Joerger forced himself out of Memphis to coach a Kings team that is about to get WAY worse real fast and stay that way for god knows how long.

it sounds like ranadive was rejecting everything and anything for boogie, and divac was getting worried

they asked for ingram and got shot down, they asked for way too much from the celtics and refused to negotiate at all, they could've gotten anything except jokic and possibly jamal murray from the nuggets and ranadive said no, he said no to some package of players and picks from the suns

but ranadive apparently loves buddy hield more than anything. he thinks he's a steph curry level talent. so he accepted this

and divac had to just take what he could get in case ranadive changed his mind

I can't think of any off the top of my head. They usually stick around the league a while but usually they are off the bench or at most a 5th starter.

  • DhalphirDhalphir don't you open that trapdoor you're a fool if you dareRegistered User regular
Yeah I was just wondering if there's any chance that, once everyone writes him off as a bust, he has a quiet resurgence. Curious if there were any players that had done so.

  • PellaeonPellaeon Registered User regular
Maybe when the kings dump him down the road and he ends up with, like, the spurs or something.

  • Knight_Knight_ Dead Dead Dead Registered User regular
I half expect okafor to end up on the Spurs after we eventually cut him and he'll learn how to play defense and win most improved in a landslide.

Wouldn't begrudge him at all, I hope he figures himself out.

I have been a fan of that franchise going on 25 years now. But the last few years I have not followed the NBA as closely as I wanted to. I had the League Pass in the... 12/13 and 13/14 seasons I think. But since then, it was too much of a time sink (since I am in Germany that meant watching games the night after they aired originally).

But with this trade, maybe I should pay more attention again...

There are players who started slow and figured it out.

But that's usually because they are young and have a lot to learn. Hield is like, 23, and apparently can't shoot for shit.

Drummond is still an acceptable return for Boogie. He's 23, a rebounding machine, has loads of potential, and is under contract till 2021.

Chauncey Billups was drafted third and was a journeyman for several years before becoming the awesome point guard he was in Detroit.

It will be really funny to see the rationalizations of a Drummond trade after the Celtics were reportedly "too focused on getting Jimmy Butler" to do a deal for Boogie.

Although, if they manage to pull both Drummond AND Butler, it will be less funny.

at first i heard "too focused on butler", but i've also heard divac came to the celtics, asked for way too much, and refused to negotiate

i don't think i really wanted boogie (or blake) and i definitely don't think i want drummond (or carmelo)

i could've been talked into boogie though. it was the dream to trade for him from like 2012-2015. but it sounds like there was literally no market, which speaks to how concerned the entire league is about his attitude

basically it's more entertaining as a fan to continue to have all these assets and all this potential than to cash in the chips

where will the fun be when we make a trade for like butler and it turns out we still can't beat lebron and we're capped out

let's just wait and wait for the perfect deal and end up having to spend all our money resigning isaiah and marcus smart

I'd be ok with Drummond. The Celtics really need a physical center. It's something we haven't had since Perk was traded and our rebound numbers are pretty terrible. Zeller doesn't even get played every game and we'll probably lose KO in the off season so getting a good center with a 5 year contract could be a big boost. I know his free throw average is atrocious so you likely lose him late in the game, but otherwise it seems like a decent fit if we don't give up too much for it.

Only acceptable trade for Drummond (IMO) is this year's Brooklyn pick and some other stuff. He's under contract for five years!

Drummond also exploits a weakness in the small lineups of Cleveland and to a lesser extent Golden State. Yeah Cleveland swept Detroit but that was because Detroit had no offense. Drummond was killing them on the boards at both ends.
