You may know us as the people who ran the Jamspace at PAX West. You may know us as the people who run the Jamspace at PAX South. You may know us as the shitheads who inadvertently booked their 13th annual flagship event the same weekend as the inaugural PAX South, and subsequently
lost the bet surrounding that. However you know us, or even if you don't, the shitheads from
MAGFest are coming to invade PAX East 2016!
What's Jamspace?
Jamspace is a room where you can see musical performances happening morning to night all weekend. We've got performances from DJs, chiptunes, video game cover bands, and even open mic open jam sessions where WE provide the instruments and YOU provide the talent (or lack thereof).
How do the Open Jam Sessions work?
We've got guitars, bass, keyboard, and drums available for public use (though we've omitted public use microphones for the safety of yourself, and those around you). If you'd like, you can even bring your own instrument, and we can get you all plugged in! Sign up for an instrument, and you'll get called up on stage to join whoever's already up there. Talk everything over with your fellow musicians to decide a song or chord progression, and then go at it!
Are the jam sessions public or even interesting for non-musicians?
Usually! A lot of great musicians roll through jamspace, so you have a chance to witness the serendipitous chance gathering of amazing musicians that had never met before that day.
What about the scheduled performances?
We'll have some great shows from the local nerd/vg/chip scene, and maybe even some of the main stage performers! Check out the posted schedule in front of the room when you arrive. We'll also have the schedule available online via this post, Guidebook, and the PAX website as we get closer to the event.
Where is the Jamspace?
We're in Room 109A+B of the BCEC, waaaaaay down at the end of hall past arachnid theater.

I'm a piano guy, and I know a few chrono trigger songs.
But for real, what did you have in mind?
Not sure yet, I just like singing and playing guitar. I have a few songs but nothing video game related. Could always come up with lyrics for some stuff though in advance.
Arrow thru the knee blues for instance
And yet still an adventurer .....
Yeah used to be an adventurer baby got an arrow in the kneeeeee
All my friends fighting dragons- I got guard dutyyyyy
It writes itself!
PS: Casino Night Zone from Sonic is a great tune with fun chord changes! Similar to All of Me. I can always write out chord charts in a flash.
I mean that's kinda just par for the course for jam space though.
I'm planning to attend an Open Jam session. Is it possible to leave instruments at the room throughout the day so I can check out other PAX stuff? I'd be retrieving anything I leave when the day ends.
It seems to me that the Open Jam is focused on certain instruments, though I assume you accept other instruments when I see there is an alto sax in the picture. Would I be able to bring a clarinet as well?
You can drop them off, and we can set it backstage. While we'll keep an eye on it for you, we can't 100% guarantee its safety, so consider this a disclaimer.
Open Jam is welcome to any and all instruments! Just because we don't have it doesn't mean you shouldn't bring it. Some of our best jams have come from violins, trumpets, harmonicas, and even an ocarina.
Find the right group of musicians to back you and you can do IRL karaoke! We reserve the right to boo you off stage if you can't hit that B flat.
