I plays it a little bit and enjoyed it, but I'm definitely glad we'll get a chance to play 2 for free before o decide to buy or not.
I'm really enjoying this new trend of having large open betas of games (over longer spans of time). I was on the fence about Overwatch, but it was the beta that sold me on it.
I absolutely love Halo Wars. Way more than is reasonable.
Given the new developer, the direction 343 Industries has been taking Halo, and the potential to miss the mark that every sequel has, I'm have my concerns, so I'm happy to have a chance to check it out ahead of time. Hopefully it's faithful to the original and doesn't have too much 343 garbage in it.

Hadn't been paying attention to 2 but this just got me very excited to see what it is.
so i'm getting the new update, but god it could not have come at a worse time. just finishing up a case in Sherlock Holmes, literally watching the cutscene as i condemn some guy and 'It's time to update!'. damn it MS!!! you couldn't have waited 2 fucking minutes??
anyway, its installed now and looking pretty nifty. will wait till tomorrow before testing out Cortana though.

That's pretty neat! I was hoping the new controller would be smaller and more ergonomic though. I basically want a PS4 controller that hooks up to the PC as nicely and universally as the Xbox one.

That Xbox Slim looks nice, and I wanted a white one but couldn't find the sunset overdrive bundle two years ago (white consoles reminds me of the Dreamcast which makes me happy thinking about how good it was....). Would be willing to sell my current one to a friend and just get the new one, although I do wonder about the heat setup on that smaller system with an internal power supply.
Yeah, my favorite thing about the Xbox One is that it is whisper quiet compared to a PS4 or PC with a big GPU. The huge form factor is probably a part of that. I actually had to sell my PS4 after Sony was unable to quiet it down sending it in for repairs; it was like trying to play a game while someone dried their hair right next to you.

343i made a radical leap in substantially modifying how Halo controls--and frankly, the game is enormously better for it (I say this as someone who sucks at multiplayer). Halo Wars works largely because it basically was the best-controlling RTS on console in that generation.
Creative Assembly makes some fantastic Total War games (and occasionally bad ones). And they're sometimes very buggy (looking at you Empire). Hopefully they take a lesson from 343i's familiarity with console control schemes, because frankly, their own GUI sometimes leaves something to be desired.

Didn't mean that in a fanboyish way, pardon if it came off that way--I have RSI injuries, and they flare up waaay earlier playing on the Xbox one controller than the PS4. That's the only reason why.

The decision to go with 2TB was a good one. At that point, it's extremely hard to fill my 2TB USB drive on my XB1, and I download every GwG that comes out.

Hope GameStop does a trade in program for it like when the Slim 360 dropped. I was there in the AM to trade up and got the first one of the three at my store.

No xbox one hardware complaints here so far. Super quiet, both the shipped controller and the elite I bought work great. Slapped an HGST Touro 1TB on it, games run great off that.

them giving away the Dishonoured remaster kills any hope of that going BC too i think. and i get the feeling that same will happen with RDR if the remaster rumours for that are true.

Does anyone else have a pair of Astro A40?
I have some huge issues with the small cord part of the adapter thing that microsoft made, the first cable loses mic connection by the drop of a hat (I have to gently turn the cable to get it back)
Borrowed the exact same part from a friends adapter and it worked perfectly... For 5 days, now my microphone gives off a screeching static noise and I have to gently turn the cable to get it to stop, which never last for more than 10 seconds.
I have a fully functional headset and a POS microsoft part that keeps me from using it, my new Elite controller can use both the adapter and a cabled solution, any idea what this cable is and if it would work with a pair A40's?
I'd rather not spend a fortune on a new headset because of microsofts shoddy cables and last minute solution adapters.
It sounds like the connector itself may be loose or has something inside it causing the issue. I'd pop it open and check the soldering.

Which connector? The top plastic adapter part? I've borrowed a spare of those things too, the only part that reliably causes the problem(s) is the little 3.5mm to 2.5mm extension jack cord.
I'm guessing you meant this thing, but I tried swapping it out with a unused spare, no difference from the one I have.
Even tried with 2 different controllers, same problem persist.
I'm confident that the adapter cable itself is the problem, especially since the 2 different ones I have give their own specific issue each, one regularly gives me static and the other regularly cuts out my incoming voice chat out.
It looks like this and is an adapter extension of the longer cable (which I also have spares of and have tried replacing)
EDIT: I've found a cable that *should* work and ordered one, most comments on that item also mentioned Microsofts adapter cable being a flimsy POS.

i really want a custom controller with my Gamertag on it in a way i never would have imagined wanting. so good on MS for selling me on shit i don't need.
I'm happy that I won't have to void warranties on controllers if I want custom colors. Although I strongly prefer metal thumbsticks... so I'll probably still be voiding warranties anyway.
