i'd be surprised if MS doesn't have one or two surprises for the latter half of the year. they're going to want to have something that will convince people to upgrade to Scorpio at the very least. also i wouldn't rule out a Forza announcement around E3. that was already releasing every other year prior to the Horizon games turning into an annual franchise.
I do hope they took notes from Sony's launch of the Neo/PSFro--presumably they'll see what's in store if they effectively bury it a month or so before it actually launches as a product.

I feel like they have to, otherwise all the mascot characters they have on their 2017 splash will all be multi-platform characters, lol
On a more serious note, hearing Scalebound being cancelled is a massive fucking bummer. I really would have liked to see that new Japanese tentpole franchise being brought to the Xbox (that isn't a Square Enix one, mind) to at least promote some diversity in the console's flagship genres, and since ReCore didn't exactly knock it out the park
Huh. What games are actually coming out soonish? Feels like everything hyped either already released (all the shooters, FFXV, Last Guardian) or is way off in the future (next Assassin's Creed or PoP or Beyond Good & Evil 2, next Halo, next Star Wars, Cyberpunk, KH3, FF7 Remake).
The only stuff coming up soon that looks interesting to me is Destiny 2 (which... doesn't even have a trailer much less a launch date), Nier 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Halo Wars 2. (And Zelda but I'm not gonna buy a launch Switch for one game). Am I just forgetting some major stuff or is 2017 a hangover year?

I just don't get the love for Platinum games, I'm not sure I've ever played one that I enjoyed.
MadWorld: Nope
Infinite Space: No idea what this is
Bayonetta: hated
Vanquish: meh
Anarchy Reigns: no idea what this is
Metal Gear Revengeance: ehhh fun I guess
Wonderful 101: meh
Bayonettta 2: better but still not for me
The Legend of Korra: no idea what this is
Transformers Devastation: fucking awful, what a disapointment
Star Fox Zero: bad
Star fox guard: no idea
TMNT: horrible
Nier: no idea

Oh yeah. I kicked this, so I'll get it whether I remember the release date or not. I am psyched for it for sure, just didn't want to resent delays when they inevitably came. So I temporarily checked out on that one.

that's a lot of fucking misses
Well...I mean there are a lot of folks that like their style of game its that simple.
Also, platinum games generally tend to be pretty freeform in design. And there is a sense of progression but a good deal of that is based on how much the player is willing to experiment.
And I know that tends to be the antithesis for many games these days, most usually having more transparency and being a bit more rigid with their ruleset but there are some folks who do like having to discover certain things through trial and error.
Uhm... unless something changed that I missed, I thought Nier 2 wasn't coming to the Xbox?
Platinum games are good/great primarily because of the personality of their director, Hideki Kamiya. The same as Kojima games, if you're not all that into the cult of their persona, they are average at best. IMO.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
Vanquish is the fucking sickest third person shooter I've played almost in forever and y'all are crazy for being lukewarm on it
IDK... I played Vanquish, I liked it. I got all the achievements but the challenge room one (iirc, I only have 2 rooms left), but I didn't think it particularly memorable. Unless slide spam and the really slow missile count as memorable things? And sliding and shooting is pretty much Warframe for me.

I'm playing Watch Dogs 2 now and its actual pretty fun. Though it does make me think traditional open world games need a shakeup as far as their basic structure is concerned.

For me one of the best open world games that didn't go into the obsurd territory as far as reality goes was Sleeping Dogs. City was tight and almost every block hard character. Little wasted space I felt.
Now for open world where they say screw it go notes I have to say Saints Row IV and Prototype 1+2 did that pretty good. Sometimes you just got to elbow drop a mother fucker off the Chrysler building.
Sunset Overdrive fills the spot of letting me go nuts in a city without turning me into Superman on crank.

until told otherwise i'm gonna go ahead an assume a September release for that one. its when the game launched and they've been pretty good about hitting that spot with their big annual updates. i'd be very surprised if they aren't aiming for D2 to launch in that same window. wouldn't expect to actually see or hear anything firm about it till E3 though. they're still trying to keep people interested in the current game after all.
also, Resident Evil 7 is due in a couple of weeks, so that's a pretty big name to kick off the year.
REmake 2: Electric Boogaloo is a looooong way off I think.
Also, Hardtarget, do yourself a favor and go pick up all the complete series of Avatar: The Last Airbender (the animated show, not the shamalamadingdong abortion of a movie), watch those, then pick up the complete series of The Legend of Korra and watch those. You don't need to play the game (You wouldn't like it anyway :P) but those two shows are phenominal and everyone should watch them!
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Damn, I'm super bummed about Scalebound. I know it looked rough in the last trailer, but it still looked like it had a lot of potential. It wasn't the main reason I bought an XBO, but it was pretty high on the list. I hope Microsoft has some serious surprises lined up for E3 2017.
Same here. I mean, How to Train Your Dragon crossed with Mega Man and viewed through a Platinum lens? Sign me up!
It was one of the reasons I had to get an Xbox One, but fortunately just one. I'm happy to say that with the rest, I don't feel bad about my purchase (well, it was last year's Xmas gift from my wife, but she knew damn good and well that I wasn't going to shut up about it), and I've been pleasantly surprised by other games I never thought I'd have interest in at the start of the year, like Forza Horizon 3.
Oh, and for TMNT? I honestly liked it. Granted, not as much as Transformers, and I've barely scratched the surface of most of their other games, but once I found the apparent groove you need to get into (lots of character switching), I had a good time.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!

I'm kind of pissed it didn't have more of an influence on the other shooties. Ludicrously fast yet I felt perfectly in control at every moment.
The Nier demo is fucking sick though and I'll absolutely grab the full game

well, there's always one i guess
It's much harder to find people who genuinely liked Korra, though.
Yo!
It wasn't the best game ever or anything, but I liked it for what it was.
TBF, you hate about 90% of things. Your avatar is fitting. :P
