there is only 1 reason why SF4 didn't continue after 5, and that's because people weren't enjoying it enough to continue playing it. it's just that simple
melee is still going strong because people are obsessed with it and the depth/energy it has. it has survived two sequels
I think examining why people weren't enjoying it enough is a worthy inquiry.
Part of what keeps Melee alive is that you get better at it just by playing a lot.
USFIV on the other hand... can any of us really say that we couldn't benefit from another thousand hours in training mode? Even after all these years...
Alex is +43 after he lands an EX Air Stampede. Air Stampede is a hard knockdown move so the opponent cannot quick rise or back recover after getting hit by it.
If Alex dashes 2x after an EX Air Stampede lands, he is +5 because he has a 19F forward dash (19×2 = 38).
After dashing forward x2, Alex can go for a meaty throw/Power Bomb (beats 3F+ normals) or meaty s.MP (counterhits and beats 3F+ normals).

i should see if st.mp xx ex air stampede catches people pressing buttons relatively consistently. if it works reasonably well it seems like something to fish with
I already like st.mp xx ex boots a bunch. Catches buttons, lets you keep pressure on block
Didn't realize it was hard knockdown, now it's the fuckin' bees knees. Anyone should be real nervous about pushing buttons when Alex has meter now, which is what we want
i would guess cc. st.hk only, or maybe a juggle. don't think ch st.hp gives enough time but i'll test it later

All the stomps are h kd I'm pretty sure. But non-ex ones are like 30f startup, can't crossup, barely have a hitbox and a huge hurtbox. You can cr.lp them.

with VT Alex can kill low stam chars with 1 bar and everyone else with 2
after the sledge he does lp?mp?hp? chop, but then resets with ex command grab instead of doing the backturn grab?
presumably mp chop - it's +3 so you force mixup between ex power bomb reset to stun or st.mp xx whatever to stun (or block into reversal punish for stun). and that's assuming they know it's coming, and don't think you are going into hp chop + backdrop...
Wish that video wouldn't call it a one touch death combo considering it has a reset but dang that is nasty.

But it does mean that Alex has amazing comeback potential
Yeah I fought an Alex last night who wasn't terribly great (he was pressing giant step kick way too much in neutral and giving me free jumpins as a result). But there was one round where he combo into supered me, then comboed into v-trigger stuff and then I was dead off 2 combos.

yeah I'm not looking forward to playing competent alex players
so far they've been a much needed source of silver players who don't know how to use him
On the other hand I have been having fun beating people up as alex because people don't know how Alex works yet.
(No one seems to know that forward + HP leaves me at +3 on block, which to be fair, it doesn't look like a move that should do that)
i like how my two fav characters were both given super beefy hp command normals that are ridiculous
now urien just needs his jump hk and for toward hp to be a + on block overhead
lariat is +3, command grab is 6 frames so if alex does it perfect the command grab should eat the 3 frame jab
