i feel like blocked lariat -> powerbomb is guaranteed, much like r.mika's f.hp -> typhoon

As in, I don't think eating dash powerbomb after throw/powerbomb because you got caught sleeping/did normal fuzzy jump is a huge deal because it's not huge damage/stun and you have so many escape options, including the backdash os.

I hate that lariat beats so many crouching normals. I mean, I don't actually think its broken or dumb or anything, just that "this move is crouchable but beats a lot of crouching normals" is super frustrating.

it hits crouching at point blank, iirc.

Yeah I mean at close-mid range. Like Necalli cr.mp/cr.mk both get hit by lariat at either of those ranges when it would otherwise whiff.
i'm not entirely convinced elena was as broken as she was made out to be. i think her power was somewhat overstated because her playstyle was deeply unfun to play against (ultra healing was the worst idea). oh, and she had screwy hurtboxes too which was another annoying factor.

I don't think she was OP either but she was solid.
I'm moreso talking about how quickly general opinion of her swung.
i heard someone say second hand that snake_eyez thinks that Gief is Top 5, and if Nash didn't exist/wasn't popular, I would be inclined to agree with him
It's not that it isn't work to play him, but once you break through, you can 100->0 someone with devastating efficiency

Elena was only ever a matchup monster
She was also just boring as all fuck to watch, so people hated her
I'd agree that Ken prob isn't top 5, though I'd disagree it has anything to do with Cammy necessarily being better

Ken seems high risk/high reward to me so I'm not sure where I'd put him.

Cammy is really, really fucking good. I think Ken is good too but yes, high risk/high reward. He's straight up the dudley of SFV. Like on the x-axis, he'd be limited in options, but on the y-axis I think he'd be pretty high up.
Top 5 I think is Chun Ryu Cammy Karin Nash with no order except Chun at the top.

Man, these people online and their wiggling. Why are all these people wiggling. It's like... Mika, you're full screen, jiggling back and forth, whiffing f.HP. To what end? Why do? I know it's not because you know your spacing. Because I just whiff punished you. And I'm standing still.
I'm glad the high visibility of top-level play has elevated the game across the board and all, but this shit is reaching Twilight Zone levels of weird.

Catching up on last night's WNF. I wish Gootecks and Mike Ross were more competitive

I find that my success or failure with Zangief is determined to a huuuuge extent simply by opponents being aware of how much easier it is to stay away from Gief than it is for him to close. He can't grab anybody in a backdash, reacting to projectiles is inherently far more risky than throwing them, and multiple characters have trivially easy ways to escape the corner against Gief with a bit of luck.
Nash in particular is a perfect example of the problem. Long-range fast normals, long range specials, slow-moving fireballs that have almost no risk against Gief, and he can escape the corner in two different ways using V-trigger. So the majority of matches against Nash with Gief are hoping you can force him to actually fight better than he can scoot back and throw out super-safe attacks. And frequently, that means being damn near psychic because of how much easier it is for Nash to run away than it is to keep him contained.
Just Gief back his dang green hand already. It's already pretty stupid that he has so few special moves and yet only has EX versions of the throws; he needs at least some ability to close distance aggressively and somewhat safely, rather than just having to get punched in the face repeatedly in the hopes of keeping the enemy pinned down long enough to deal some decent damage.
I got lazy tonight and didn't feel like swapping out my pad for my stick (going from Dark souls 3 to SFV). The pad I have is an ancient X-Box 360 controller with probably the worst D-pad for fighting games I've ever seen. Still, everything felt smoother, faster, easier.
The dream is dead, boys. I'm just going to have to embrace the fact that I'm a filthy pad playing peasant. I ordered a Hori Fight Commander 4 that will hopefully get here tomorrow.

Its honestly not a big deal.
Unless you visit an arcade in japan and find yourself wishing you felt comfortable with stick.
Otherwise no worries. Plenty of pad players bodying fools.

It whiffs on crouchers from a bit away, but point blank it tags everyone crouching
low tier alex strikes me as real weird + casual shade on birdie players
So I don't take many of them serious.
Its kind of like how many players didn't think Elena was that good at the start of USF4...to "Oh my god this character is broken."
Those are usually the ones who start out strong but as the other characters/tech develop opinions can change.
I don't think she was OP either but she was solid.

Surprised they rate Ken and Cammy as high as they do
The "time investment vs difficulty to use" chart is goofy in general
Chun, cammy, karin, ryu, nash all better just off the top of my head.
Top 5 I think is Chun Ryu Cammy Karin Nash with no order except Chun at the top.
impossible dp is life
Personally
Otherwise that is a solid looking top 5
I'm too busy marvelling over all this shit in the background to concentrate on winning games.

Theres 6 easily better than ken.
Low tier excuse for losing solidified.
Seriously. It's like some bizarro universe Omega mode tier list or something.

Also, Snake Eyes is a demigod.

his v-reversal and v-trigger wouldn't be so annoying if you didn't need to spend about 400 health just getting him to the corner
(And I keep forgetting how late it is for most of you...)
low tier, low execution, easy to learn, flawed Birdie
I see that I have made the correct choice
