So I'm posting this from my new computer in the living room. Seems to work as expected. The TV it's on kind of looks like shit at 1080 p 1920-1080 (seems like native resolution) and 60 hz refreshrate (plus it makes this annoying high frequency sound when used as a monitior that probably only I can hear).
Is there anything I should think about when using a TV as a monitor or is this just a case of "don't use your TV as a monitor stupid". I'll probably be on it for a while, buying a new TV is going to be way harder sell because it changes the living room decoration which is a big deal in this household. ;)

Edit: Also everything is kind of small but changing the resolution didn't seem to help that much.

In Display/Screen Resolution in windows there should be a link to "Make text or other items larger or smaller" Also in your browser you can set the Zoom level. I think on my TV at home that is my primary monitor for my PC that I do a combination of both of those.

I <3 you guys in this thread so much. It helps immensly. Also my computer makes a funny (not very bothersome) noise when running the steam VR app. I think it's coils of the PSU or something. It's not very loud or annoying.
I'm also totally green on performance now so just waiting for the Vive to arrive.

More people are confirming that they are getting email confirmations and charges on their cards.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm just going to stare at my email for the rest of the day week.

Yeah I'm basically doing the e-mail equivalent of staring at the phone and picking it up every few minutes to make sure there's still a dial tone.

I'm not even expecting mine until next month, and realistically the end of it (since I don't know whether their 'April' orders will be sent out in one block, or in stages throughout the month), but I keep checking my email just in case hey it could happen.

Gmail probably noticing a huge bandwidth spike as a result.

What was your order time/2XXXX number?

I'm a 26er, my order time was 12 seconds after they went live (according to the preorder_time). I just happened to refresh the store page a minute or so before "live" time and it was there, I couldn't resist.

Still no charge for me as a March delivery. A blog post or update from Oculus would be nice.

e: Just looked at Palmer Luckey's twitter, and he does say pre-orders will start shipping today, so we'll see.

    e2: I am also a 25'er.

Pretty impressive if you ask me. Something of note: The cable does detach from the headset. This means that there's nothing really stopping them from including a longer cable with the Touch if they need to (though I'm not holding my breath). Or even just offering longer cables for sale.

Do you know your preorder_time? Or at least roughly how long after it went live you ordered? The actual order number seems more or less useless in this case other than general "ballpark". For example, we know 30+ orders definitely have later ship dates but 24-27 seem to all fall around each other without any real reasoning.

Apparently these things are also shipping next day air (assuming they're using the same method as they did for the kickstarter ones, I don't see why not). Even if it doesn't ship till tomorrow for some reason you may still have it Friday.

Of course this all depends on if you're US or not. I haven't heard any confirmation of any international orders yet, hopefully those get moving soon too.

In case there's some people not in the know. The reason other countries are being charged before others is because they're trying to have them all arrive on the fifth so some charged and leave earlier because it takes longer to get there

    Huh, that's pretty cool.

Definitely the kind of thing you'd expect a company with the size and experience of HTC to be able to pull off, I bet they have a way more successful launch than Oculus has.

Still no shipping confirmation from Oculus, and as mentioned I am a Kickstarter backer.

If HTC really does do a worldwide ship for the 5th, Vives could be hitting our shores before Rifts.

Well htc as a company is in deep shit. Usually that means you go all in on something new and either do spectacularly well or you go home. I hope for the first. But I can guarantee that the entire company is on overtime trying to crush this launch. They may not do that well financially on the vive but taking pole position is important for the next gen and will likely lead up to something like gear vr which could help them back into the mobile industry. So this launch is almost do or die for them.

HTC is in an interesting position because they have a good amount of cash and assets, but their stock is very low because they have very little market share; they're being squeezed out of the market by competition.

So yeah, even if they don't make a dime on VR headsets this year, gobbling up market share for an emerging market is exactly what they need.

I'm US. I got the confirmation email at 8:01:58 PST according to G-Mail, so my order would have been sometime about 30-60 seconds before that. The next day air thing is interesting, as I am on the same coast as Oculus. Perhaps they are shipping by distance or something, who knows. I assume I should hear something today or tomorrow.

    tldr of the video:
You'll see in VR just like you do irl. You might experience a little more motion blur than other people, and some objects may not "pop" like they would for others (lack of depth).

Same, so to sum up the video which matches what else has been said in this thread:

They asked Jessica Conditt (who works for Engadget) to answer the questions, who basically just says VR headsets work so great because they basically trick your brain into think it's actually just straight up seeing it. You'll likely have similar issues that you already have with depth perception and there might be more motion blur, but all in all VR still works for you.

She also answered a question about glasses. She said PSVR was probably her best experience in regards to them and Rift was definitely the worst. Her glasses are fairly large and thick framed, so this matches about what we've thought. They still fit in the Rift but there was added pressure for sure and wasn't that comfy. She also notes, and this is the first time I've heard it in regards to the Vive w/ glasses, that the Vive had some definite light leak at the bottom when wearing her glasses. It could also be because of how it was adjusted, she wasn't sure.

That's a neat idea, but I suspect most people wouldn't really 'fall' for it (see what I did there?!) unless you made yourself. But then some people like that kind of thing. And it be the first game to come with a plank of wood! :P

Edit: To be clear, that's the point of VR to be immersive, but to go crawling along or pull the faces in that video seems to be a case by case basis. Also, wonder what happens if you jump.

If the rumors are true, and the X80 Ti releases side by side with the regular X80, I'll be upgrading my 980 Ti to an X80 Ti specifically for VR. Rumors are the X80 Ti is capable of 70% more performance than the 980 Ti at like 80% of the power usage, which is insane if it's true.

On the AMD side, the cards released this summer aren't going to offer appreciable performance gains over 390 and Fury X levels, but they'll be using half the power that current cards use.

Their flagship cards unfortunately don't release until January 2017.
Coming back to this again today.

Is this only applicable to AMD? Will Nvidia have their cards on the table this summer, or at least their non-budget models? If the next generation is arriving in 2017 then I could stand to build a system now (well, in 2 weeks) and put in something passable for now.

About how expensive would I budget a system where the performance scales up in line with cost? I don't mind paying a few thousand dollars overall, but if it's like an RPG where the best-best components cost 15 times more for 5% higher stats then I can live with second best.
