Kinda surprised there isn't a thread for this since it's coming out in just under a week, so I guess I'll bite the bullet and throw one up. Here we go.
QUANTUM BREAK
A unique experience; one part hard-hitting video game, one part exciting live action show, featuring a stellar cast, including Shawn Ashmore as the hero Jack Joyce, Dominic Monaghan as Jack’s genius brother William, Aidan Gillen as his nemesis Paul Serene and Lance Reddick as Serene’s right-hand man Mr. Hatch. The actions you take and choices you make shape your experience in both the game and the show, creating a new and unique entertainment experience all in one package.
There, that's better. Wow! I Guess time really does change things! What started off as a curiosity, Remedy expanding on their drive at narrative rich games has grown into something bigger and very exciting. Creating not just a game but also a live action show that will change around decisions you make in order to shape the story as you progress is a bold undertaking, and the inclusion of some familiar faces gives me much more confidence that they'll be able to pull it off. On top of that meshing 3rd person shooting/action with time stopping abilities should help set it apart from others in the genre as far as gameplay goes.
Due for release on April 5th(Yes that's this coming Tuesday!), it will be made available on PC* and Xbox One simultaneously. However, there is an added incentive to pre-order on the Xbone. Buying the game at anytime will net you a free backwards compatible copy of Alan Wake+DLC, and pre-orders through the Xbone digital store will also net you a code for the PC version and a BC copy of Alan Wake's American Nightmare. Personally, I think that's a pretty great deal. On top of that, you'll be able to transfer your saves between the Xbox and PC version of the game.
I am super hyped for this game. Not least because Remedy always do the right things by me in their stories, always lots of little references and self-references and touches that make me sit up and go "OH WHAT?!" because I'm easily amused. And this looks to have a more varied focus on combat than Alan Wake, which is great to see because as much as I loved Wake, the combat definitely got repetitive, when Remedy are capable of some super impressive action. So basically yeah I can't wait to get my hands on this.
here's a look at how the game plays and how the show is woven into it. heavy spoilers for the first part of the game and the first episode of the show:

yeah, the combat in this looks like it will be a lot more varied than it was in Alan Wake, if only as a result of the time powers. though i can understand what they were going for in AW, between the character being someone inexperienced in that kind of thing and the whole horror vibe. not sure if it was any different in American Nightmare which i understand was more action/arcade-y.
still, 3rd person cover based shooting with time powers seems like it will be fun to me. throw in a (hopefully)decent sci-fi story with some pretty notable names from genre TV/movies and i can't imagine being disappointed.
I am this close to pulling the trigger for a pre-order on Xbox One.This is one of those AAA productions that it's very hard to picture being, at worst, "good to mediocre", simply because of the time investment. Furthermore, what I've seen of it looks darn fun.
I'm sure I would have done it if it weren't for the fact that 1) my gaming desktop isn't upgraded to Windows 10 yet and 2) I never finished Max Payne 3--I simply lost interest in it. But apparently Remedy didn't do Max Payne 3, Rockstar did? I also never played Alan Wake simply because I was busy at the time.
I'm...pretty sure I will. Eventually I'll need to upgrade to Windows 10, and that'll be a pretty new game to add to my collection then.

The combat in QB (mmm, might have to go to McD tonight) is not "traditional" cover combat even though many of the gameplay videos are played like that. You'll need to play pretty aggressively, AI is eager to knock you out of cover if you hang there too long.
There has been some videos that make the combat look absolutely terrible, but what I've heard it is because those players actually suck at games/play this like your average cover shooter. So be aware when watching gameplay videos, and try to watch stuff from different players.
The game looks absolutely beautiful, and because all of the footage has been from XBOne so when we start getting PC version vids, oh boy oh boy...
Oh, and the show has gotten some praise too, some people say that it has pretty good production values and the acting is quite good. Lots of action too, not just talky talky soap opera thingy.
All in all pretty hyped, and because it has no horror stuff I might even get it. Love Remedy, those nightmare sections in MP never forget!
EDIT. Oh, and there seems to be nods to AW and I think that even to MP, they are all set in the same universe after all... Exciting.
And Max Payne 3 is not a proper Max Payne in my opinion. Rockstar just wanted to take a great IP/franchise/dunno and turn it to another Rockstar Experience... I'm so sad everytime I think about it.
So excited for this game. I preordered it a couple of nights ago. The thing is huge. I think the game itself was 45 GBs and the videos came in at 75 GBs. I'm toying with the idea of a day off to go through as much of the content uninterrupted as possible. I've been avoiding almost every stream so I don't spoil anything. The trailers have been great though. This latest one is great:

Max Payne 3 is great. There's no shame in being the third best Max Payne game.
I'm looking forward to Quantum Break, but what really sold me was the free copy of Alan Wake+DLC because it's been just long enough since I last played Alan Wake that I'm starting to really jones for another go-around in Bright Falls.

Same here. I jumped all over Alan Wake's American Nightmare as soon as it became backwards compatible. Having a digital copy of Alan Wake and its DLC is the best preorder bonus in the history of preorder bonuses, in my opinion.
With a protagonist called Jack Joyce, I really feel like I should've done some background reading before next week since you just know Lake is going to seed this story with all manner of references that I'm just not going to get.

Yeah, Remedy weren't anywhere near Max Payne 3.
For some reason Rockstar's games don't click with me--I haven't finished Grand Theft Auto V either. Though to be honest, I can't reasonably say "But Remedy's will..." just because I finished the first two Max Payne games at least once.
I can be damn sure I'll finish Quantum Break if I have it on Xbox One. Less likely on PC (where I also had Max Payne 3).
shamelessly stealing this from the Gametrailers threads. overall a positive review, though it seems that the TV show aspect was perhaps a bit to ambitious. perhaps its something Remedy will be able to improve on if they choose to continue with that sort of thing.
Well, that's good enough for me. Turning on my Xbox One and placing preorder.

I'm getting a real Vanquish vibe from this. The whole "yeah, you can take cover, but you really shouldn't stay there" aspect is super reminiscent of that game's playstyle.
Thus far as a studio, Remedy has a long history of creating games that focus on two key ideas: providing unconventional gameplay that brings something new to shooters and presenting it in a story rich with characters, background lore, and more than a few twists. Quantum Break hits on both of these tenets and does so in what feels like their most well-rounded game to date. The time manipulation powers are as special as Max Payne's "bullet time" or Alan Wake's fighting with light. The time travel storyline is one that lends itself to discussion, speculation, and adoration among genre fans. Both of these things are then aided by a great cast and truly stunning audio and visual design. Not without missteps, Quantum Break is still an exceptional title that takes chances and looks like the makings of a successful new franchise. In short, it's a hell of a time.
Quantum Break is Remedy’s most ambitious and immersive title yet. Not only does it cater to fans of Alan Wake and Max Payne, but also to the legion of Xbox One and Windows 10 gamers out there. Quantum Break is unique, it’s something new, and it isn’t your everyday shooter. Remedy have put a bold stamp on the shooter genre. Time-amplified combat means you have to become re-accustomed to the modern shooter, as this isn’t something you’ll master instantly. Then there’s also the amazing storyline with the live-action television series, which conveys a narrative told from the perspective of the bad guys. It isn’t perfect, but Remedy have crafted something that I truly enjoyed once I mastered the gameplay. Quantum Break is the AAA release that’s leading the Spring season in my book.
Incredible: Quantum Break is a revolutionary entertainment experience, fusing the medium of video games and television as one. Time-amplified combat puts a new spin on the shooter genre, and will require some time to get used to. Choices made during Junctions in Time allows you to assume the role of the villain, making choices that not only impact you, but also that of hero Jack Joyce. This creates a unique experience, and something that hasn’t been done before. Quantum Break’s live-action episodes are dependent on these decisions, giving you a different narrative based on the choices you make. Overall, Remedy has crafted a truly gripping experience with Quantum Break, featuring an all-star cast that will immerse you in an enthralling storyline about the end of time.
Once you get in on it, you understand why Quantum Break is an unmissable, story-driven experience – and the killer franchise the Xbox One has needed. This is one of the best single-player experiences on console. Quantum Break is simply incredible, and I thank Remedy for crafting such an engrossing experience.
I went in with the fear that Quantum Break's risky experiment with live action wouldn't work, that it'd wreak havoc on the game's pacing, and alienate those looking for a game, rather than an interactive TV show. Remedy Entertainment strides confidently throughout both mediums, as though they were Jack Joyce himself navigating those stunning pockets of molten time.
The gameplay is fresh and satisfying, the visual design is beyond anything we've seen, and the story is layered and engrossing. The pacing whiplash between its action-packed combat and lengthy TV breaks required a little adjustment on my part, but I'm glad it was Remedy who were the first to take plunge. They've not only proven it's possible, but desirable.
While Quantum Break exposes the Xbox One's technical limitations, Remedy has crafted a masterpiece that earns its place among the best that the console has to offer. Quantum Break is the first thoroughly unmissable, truly unique console exclusive the Xbox One has. Every single Xbox One and W10 gaming PC owner should pick up this game, and the big-budget publishers out there funding similar cinematic experiences should take note. Quantum Break has permanently altered the way I want to experience storytelling in games.

I was put off by the gameplay at first, until I saw some videos where people actually knew how to play and weren't just playing peekaboo behind cover.
To be honest, though, I was always set to get it anyway because it's Remedy.

The explanation for how a time machine works in this is the most bizarre techno-babble thing ever.
The writers obviously only have the most basic grasp of actual physics. It's pretty funny, almost 'Time Tunnel' esque..
The machine sort of looks like a real world Fusion Reactor prototype design though, so kudos to the art & design team for that at least.
I think I'm going to wait for a sale and pick this up later. I still have Tomb Raider to finish.

honestly, from the description i think they just watched Primer and then changed 'box' to 'tunnel/corridor'. but really, the point isn't so much how it works as much as its what happens when it all goes horribly wrong because of course it does.
Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason this requires Windows 10?
because MS are really pushing their new OS/unified environment and store front, as well as taking another crack at the PC gaming market.

Well, on the one hand I really enjoyed Heavy Rain on PS3 and this game looks like something special that I want to play in that same vein, but on the other hand I own neither an Xbox One or Windows 10 (I have a very good PC that could run this but I still use Windows 7 on it). I'd rather not upgrade at the present time to 10, and I'm presently skipping this console generation for various reasons, so I guess I'll just have to give this a pass for now.
That is unfortunate.

It also requires DirectX 12, which requires Windows 10.
So I guess the question is why W10 is necessary for DX12.
Remedy's touch and style is all over Quantum Break, which is a strength and, at a few points, a weakness as well. But it's more than that, a real transmedia experiment — I know how it sounds — that succeeds in ways that other games don't even try. There's some wonky shooting and a few cringe-worthy story cliches present. But ineffective cover systems and narrative fridges notwithstanding, Quantum Break feels like the first action game taking real lessons from the Netflix binge-watch era, and in that respect, it's a surprising succe

I mean, to be sure, I'm running Windows 10 exclusively for all my shit, and after watching the Build 2016 keynotes, I think 10 is shaping up to be one of the best operating systems Microsoft has ever made (give me all that Linux stuff on Windows man give it to meeeeee).
here's Digital Foundry's run down of the games visuals.
Remedy's Quantum Break possesses a level of rendering technology that is supremely impressive. This game is doing things we've not seen in a mainstream title before. John reveals all.
I was just about to post how the reviews have been pretty positive so far. The comments to that Giant Bomb review are frustrating. "Thanks Jeff, now I don't have to buy this!" "Well, I guess I can save my money!"
Do people really rely on the review of one person to decide whether or not they should buy a game? I like reviews, but I would never rely on a review to make my final decision on whether or not I will purchase a game.
