I mean if actual, substantial evidence that this button is causing problems for people isn't enough proof that it's a bad idea then I don't know what to tell you.
Granted, 99% of the time people ARE going to have the presence of mind not to press the big obvious joke button. The cruel thing about it though is that the 1% of people who don't are probably have a lot of other stuff going on in their minds at the time. In which case, it's much more likely to be a pretty damn important e-mail that they're sending and not just "oi m8 u up 4 drinks at the tav later rotflmao".
Here's a joke idea they could have gone with: Change the search button options to "Search", which works as normal, and "I'm feeling lucky, punk", which returns the top search result only with all images replaced by random photos of Clint Eastwood.

That's not half bad!

I saw the other Gmail Send button earlier but it wasn't where the old button was, it's just next to it. That said, my e-mails were not about important things at all so it probably wouldn't have mattered if I hit the wrong button by accident.
It does strike me as not being a good April Fools' prank if there are ramifications beyond the individual prankee's embarrassment of being fooled.
April Fools is the best day to announce things that will actually really happen
Joke announcements are played out
To counter that, April Fools is the worst day to die, because no-one will believe it.
Ronnie Corbett died yesterday. If he'd died today, all the stories announcing it would have been filled with comments like 'lol, good one'.
They just raised the minimum wage in the UK, I'm half expecting them to announce "Ha! April Fools! Go back to your regular pittance, peasant."

I believe it's where the "Send & Archive" button would be, but not everyone has that enabled so most folks would've just had the new one pop up next to regular "Send"

I simultaneously believe this was a terrible idea and Google should not have done it and also that it is hilarious in that cringe-worthy, "oh no!" Sort of way. I feel genuinely sorry for the guy who lost that job and also I cannot help but laugh.

darth maul was so cool, i liked how he did nothing for two hours then had a dumb fight in a nonsensical location and died like a chump
It's Star Wars tradition to have a "badass" character who barely does anything. The prequels had Darth Maul/General Greivious, the OT had Boba Fett, and the new movie has Captain Phasma.
If that google thing had just had the minion gif it would have been stupid but fine
the fact that it muted the email thread and seemingly there was no way to undo it was a horrible idea, regardless of how many warnings they put up about it
How long was that even up? It seems like it wasn't actually up long enough for anyone to lose their job. I'm guessing some of that is the internet making things up again.
Still, there's a minion in it so it never should have seen the light of day.

It was up for about 12 hours and the help thread about it on google's help forum is filled with stories of people getting fucked by the button including jobs/interviews and causing problems between friends/coworkers/loved ones
For non Brits/Euros, there is going to be a referendum in June to decide if the UK should leave our current relationship with the EU. Nigel Farage is the leader of UKIP and very much opposed to staying in.

As someone who has been dealing with identity theft all week as a result of someone at our company just not being smart, informed or attentive enough to check what they click 'send' on
Regardless of how tired they might have been
I'm not entirely unsympathetic but boy I'm short on the normal charity I'd feel for people who misclicked in their email.

I'm pretty sure thinkgeek always use this to test some outlandish ideas just to see if there's a market for them.

the background has been changed fittingly
What is wrong with the Digimon's eyes? Patamon looks like he just set a village on fire.
Also motherfucker I wish I'd made an episode of our podcast about pokemon now.
here's an april fools prank that fell out of a time portal from 2006
Holy shit, the Homsar call at around 8:30
Okay, funny that you mention that because he was just on rebels.
Imgur announced imgur for pets and produced funny humans gifs to go with them.

God, that might be my ideal sleep setup.
But I want to be able to switch on the fly between different ships, also the alarm!
It all seems super feasible though, the touch lcd screens being the only costly thing.
