All I hope for is one long loop instead of short loops. On digital noise machines I always start to hear the point where it starts overs, which begins to drive me crazy. I currently use a mechanical noise machine because of that.

I mean Enterprise night mode noise is a low constant hum interrupted with beeps. Realistically you'd never hear it loop unless the player is really shitty and has to reload the track
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Just use the same ones they use for HP Photosmart printers. Those cost around $100

10 seconds of brownian noise, 4 seconds of "tape rewind sound", 10 seconds of brownian noise...
Sidenote to all the websites out there: The engine noise of the Enterprise is not white noise. White noise is a very specific type of noise that has an evenly distributed frequency spectrum. The spectrum of the engine noise effect is almost exactly brown noise, which has a steady frequency drop-off of -6 dB/octave. This is why it is so low-pitched, which also makes it significantly more soothing compared to the harshness of traditional "static" white noise.

My biggest problem with April Fool's Day is the laziness
Don't just lie about something, that's something I do every day
Actually commit to the bit and try to fuckin' fool people
I was still seeing friends fall for that "Netflix is making a Judge Dredd Series!" "prank" as recently as November, partly because some other entertainment blog failed to check the date on the original and re blogged it months later.
Lying about cool stuff that people wish existed is not a prank, that's just being an asshole.

That said, that example you gave is the fault of shitty blogs not doing research and your friends trusting a single shitty blog without follow-up.

I brought in the ol' "veggie tray in a box of donuts" to the office today.

Nah roughly half of them were still sharing the original lie

They even set up a home page at http://placidheights.com/. They have a fake interview with the "developer." The amount and content of the phone calls they are generating into the station is just amazing.
The best part is they do this same thing every year, something that just straddles the line of believability and will generate some negative response from a certain section of the population. It's just perfect.

People would so buy into this if it was real.
Yeah they've had those calls too. It's really great. I wish could remember what they did last year, cause it had the same result. Some people wanted to buy into whatever it was and others were outraged.
Edit: Oh god, they actually spent $500 buying likes on Facebook to perpetuate this.
I mean if actual, substantial evidence that this button is causing problems for people isn't enough proof that it's a bad idea then I don't know what to tell you.
Granted, 99% of the time people ARE going to have the presence of mind not to press the big obvious joke button. The cruel thing about it though is that the 1% of people who don't are probably have a lot of other stuff going on in their minds at the time. In which case, it's much more likely to be a pretty damn important e-mail that they're sending and not just "oi m8 u up 4 drinks at the tav later rotflmao".
There isn't substantial evidence, there's a bunch of people on twitter putting up neatly cropped text and nothing else.

You know google pulled it because of complaints right

Nothing else? I assume you didn't actually take a look at the google customer service forums, where all the complaints are? Google did pull it and apologise for a reason.

That doesn't make it substantial evidence of it actually harming people. It just means that they're going to remove jokes as soon as someone complains, which is just a good idea in general.

She approaches me before she goes off to school and says, "Daddy, I'd like quinoa for dinner."
Me: "Oh, wow, that's great! Sure we can have it! (Hm, I thought she hated quinoa)"
Her: "Haha! April fools!!!"

I would have been really psyched. I think I like veggie trays better than donuts.

I would go there and sign the petition, but he pronounces "both" with an L. There is no L in Both.
You just got April Fooled, Andrew W.K..
