It was the only game you had and it was made on the arcade model so once you found the warps you used them over and over again and you tried to get to the end.
Because it was one of the first games that had an end.
I spent a lot of time at a friend's house growing up.
His dad could play Mario for hours without ever dying. Just getting to the end and looping back around.
So we'd skate always 'take turns' but he was a troll so after us scrubby kids each died once he'd just spend the next 45 minutes or so before dinner repeatedly beating the game.
We practiced a lot to fend off his turn as long as possible. Still pretty bad at smb.
I had a Game Boy and a little sister who I did not want to share my things with. I didn't even have the "excuse" of not wanting to stop playing myself because by the time I was in middle school I had a Game Boy, a Game Boy Color, and a Game Boy Advance. I was just a jerk.
I really regret that because she never got to develop those vital gaming skills so whenever I try to play stuff with her now, she's really bad at it.

Yoshinori Ono, producer on Street Fighter, talks about the idea of a full Nintendo Vs. Capcom fighting game, which I would very much like to see
"please increase awareness of our brands without us having to spend money, because oh my god we don't have any"

Also in those days you knew every level, warp or not, inside and out. Because besides the odd rental, smb1/duck hunt were the only games you owned
had not occurred to me, but is a great idea, and looks really cool

i missed the extra hard mode part. That sounds tough.
edit: I want to try Star Fox so bad because watching these videos is just not confirming one way or the other if those controls work any good. I need to try them for myself.

I finished Zelda Picross (aside from the Mega Picross, which I just can't seem to understand and is a repeat of the regular pictures)
I should've gotten Warioware with those points instead
See it doesn't look like it's on rails but limited within an area like most other dog fighter games.
I know they said it would have a two player option one flying the Arwing the other fires the guns [yet another way to ruin friendships by Nintendo}
I am still curious what other amiibos they will do after Corrin and such come out since they are the last of the Smash ones

Then I die
Has anyone ever played Worlds 2 or 3?
World 2 definitely
I don't think I could tell you what's in world 3
I'd remember if I saw it
I remember really liking World 7 partly because I almost never went there so it was always new
I don't ever use the warps
if you get on a decent rhythm they go pretty quick
I just never not use the warps
I can't resist them. They're hidden.
are they though
Typically I try to expand my time with games I like, not shorten it
Yes. Just because you know where the hiding place is doesn't mean they're not placed deliberately out of the way.

the mere fact that there exist warps is mindblowing.

Because it was the same at my house.
"Okay lil bro let's play and I'll even let you be Mario."
"Oops haha those Goombas huh *proceeds to beat the game on a single life*"

I thought MH was keeping them flush with cash

Scanning your Falco amiibo in Star Fox Zero gets you a red and black Arwing
I NEED A FALCO AMIIBO
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
The main problem with that game is supposedly that the control scheme is super unintuitive and frustrating on the regular difficulty!
I thought the red and black Arwing was extra hard mode
It's a model that takes extra damage. I heard somewhere that it might also deal more damage, glass-cannon-style? But I'm not sure that's true
Wolfen has a walker mode too
which
had not occurred to me, but is a great idea, and looks really cool
