So GW2 has quite steadily drawn my attention away from The Division for a while, but a YT guy I follow just recently put out a video on it which talks about this Survival mode shiz?
And I gotta tell ya, that sounds like 100% my jam. Looks like I know what I'm reinstalling when I get home after shift.
Survival is what sold me on the season pass when all the DLC was free to try out a week ago and the pass was on sale. Even in PvE mode and with the reduced player counts during the global event week, it's an intense experience that can change game to game.
I've gotten familiar enough with parts of the map that I can now extract successfully pretty consistently but still have sometimes had surprises or alter my game plan. During early scavenging phases, realizing that another player started nearby and has already scoured the path you were hoping to take forces diversions.
I'm working on getting my time down. Right now I'm definitely more in the slow and steady camp which has let me succeed where most other players are failing but I've cut it a bit close a few times. On the one hand it was nice to clear out the LMB landmark that had killed a group of three other players while on my own using blue gear but I think that was also the game I only had ten minutes left before I died of infection when I saw I was one Division Tech component short of making a high end weapon and I decided to try and extract with only blue and purple quality weapons I had found because I didn't think I'd find the missing materials before dying.
Argh, I gotta finish leveling to 30 so I can check out Survival.
Why? Survival is a completely separate mode that doesn't have an affect on your out-of-Survival character (except in terms of extracted loot).
EDIT - to elaborate: you play Survival as a blank slate character with a preset default green-quality starting equipment (if I remember right...it's been a whiles)

It should pair well with The House... If that thing ever fucking drops instead of all these pieces of shit Skulls MC gloves.
My plan was to try out 3 piece D3-FNC, 2 piece Nomad and then Ninjabike bag (to get SMG with 4 piece D3 and continuous healing from 3 piece Nomad) with The House and some AR of sorts, doesnt really matter if the items never drop though.
Not really a DPS spec, but I can solo a ton of shit and its much more fun than my DPS spec is, both of my friends changed to Shield specs as well.
My shield has something like 1.130.000 HP and 40% damage reduction already.
This is exactly what I was using before I got the Classifed D3 drops to move to 6 piece.
I'm still shot 1 bit of Nomad and I think 1 or 2 bits of Predator, hopefully I can get those tomorrow, but if not, fine.
OTOH, because of the way cosmetics work you can do some pretty silly things.
I heard you guys like nightvision goggles?
The best yet was earlier in the week when I was wearing a helmet with goggles, a mask with goggles and a scarf that was a pair of goggles. My poor agent looked like one of those people who forgot where they put their reading glasses and just put on another pair.

To add to that, the only advantage already being high level is that someone with a 30 is going to start out more familiar with the map and abilities.
The latter is handy because you have to use crafting materials to build abilities to slot into Q and E so already knowing which ones you like beforehand helps since you don't have a lot of leeway to experiment in survival. That said, I'll just point out that either support station or first aid in one slot and then ballistic shield or turret are the generally recommended choices. Some people like sticky bomb or seeker mine but those are less universally loved.
The former is useful because while the map is repurposed, the location of things still follows the same pattern: For example, you still find tougher LMB enemies closer to the DZ and on the northeastern part of the map and in the northern parts of the DZ and if a district had a pharmacy as part of the background in the normal map in survival it'll be a place you can scrounge medicine to slow down the infection. Plus knowing the rough terrain can be useful when you're against the clock.
You'll still die horribly the first few times regardless of course.
So I haven't played since like before the first dlc
If I want to get vac in do I need all the dlc? Survival looks awesome so I'll be picking that up for sure. But until I'm more certain I'll play it for more than a few weeks id like to skip the other two dlc

For the most part, the DLC just add in new game modes parallel to the base game. I think some may have added in new Incursions but those aren't strictly required to collect new loots.

Yay, got the full D3 classified set.
And what stats do you guys prefer on your assault rifles? This is for team based stuff so I'm thinking Destructive, Deadly, and then either Fierce or Accurate.
And what stats do you guys prefer on your assault rifles? This is for team based stuff so I'm thinking Destructive, Deadly, and then either Fierce or Accurate.
Assault Rifles don't crit too much so Deadly isn't as great as it sounds on them.
Destructive is great of course. Ferocious is great in PvE given how many elite mobs you fight and how generally inconsequential anything below elite tends to be in a group. Competent or whatever the one that gives you +damage after using a skill is another safe choice if going for all out damage. Otherwise Predatory for sustain is nice.
EDIT - okay, okay...you can copy/paste and replace the "ca" with "us" in the link and get to the US store. Looks like the discount is slightly better for the base game and Gold edition from ubistore...and the individual DLC prices are better at Humble.

Every now and then I do a run with someone that does an insane amount of explosive damage, like one shotting packs of challenge mission level enemies.
Any idea what build that is?
At a guess, A high electronics Tacticians Authority, using sticky bomb. That set gives you a very large amount of bonus skillpower, on top of what you already have so apparently it's possible to get sticky bomb up into the million range for damage.
Tactician´s Authority
Changes:
Tactician´s Authority received some minor and yet very big changes. Now instead of losing the stacks every 10 seconds, you will keep the stacks until you use a skill. With the changes to Skillpower, this is the ideal set to not only get high Skillpower, but with the 15% Skill Haste it also helps you keep the cooldown short and you in the game. But keep in mind – Skill Haste is also capped at 50% now and the skills also have a minimum cooldown.
The classified version expands on that and gives you the ability to activate two skills with an increased buff. With the Reclaimer as dedicated healer, the Tacticians has become more of a combat set for either the Turret or other damage Skills like the Sticky Bomb or Pulse. The key is to keep an eye on the stacks so you only activate the Skills when you have 30 or 60 stacks.
Also keep in mind, that you no longer profit from your team and you have to get the stacks yourself - either by firing at enemies or place the Turret.
Stats:
Set Bonus (2):
+15% Skill Haste
Set Bonus (3):
+10% Skill Power
Set Bonus (4):
Every bullet you hit enemies with adds 1% bonus skill power. Every bullet your deployed skills hit enemies with adds 0.2% bonus skill power. Skill power bonus max is 30%. Bonus is consumed on skill use.
Classified Set Bonus (5):
+5% Skill Haste
+5% Skill Power
Classified Set Bonus (6):
Using a skill while at the max bonus will reset the skill power buff but will raise the cap to 60%.
Using a different skill at 60% has a 40% chance to set the buff power back to 30% and to keep the cap at 60%.
This chance is increased by 20% for every 3000 Electronics

Next (and last of the set) will probably be some time next month I think. After that I've heard they will go on rotation, not sure if it'll be a quicker rate or if it'll be the same as currently. However apparently, once all the classified sets are out in the main drop table after the next GE, their drop rate will be increased to make them a bit easier to fill out.

Hit level 40 in Underground. The clothing set you get is pretty cool
That last area of the DZ sure paints a grim picture. First time I've been in there and I had to take a minute to let it all sink in.
6 piece nomad is pretty amazing. I probably need to think about optimal stats for this set but at the moment I'm running a pretty even across the board build. 4800 FP, 5200 stamina and 6000 electronics. The fire power because I've mainly been using an MDR with brutal, I have a second assault rifle with a bunch of HP gain talents. It is quite funny just face tanking everything, especially heavies.
I did a couple of lex runs with tactical strike and tanking the explosions was great too.

Yeah but what the hell happened to the Underground vendor rewards? That guy only sells high end/set caches for Phoenix Credits that you can find everywhere now, thats kind of a bummer.
I played this game pretty extensively (on PS4) at launch but bounced off it hard around the time the DLC started dropping. However I always talked about going back to it.
I snagged it on pc during the steam fall sale and just recently started putting time back into it. The game is as amazing as I remembered. And heaven help me, although it’s been 18 months or so since I played it I still remember mission layouts and tactics. The QoL improvements while I’ve been gone are well received. I’m only level 17 and have avoided the DZ thus far.
I need to get the dlc/season pass while it’s on sale. They’ve earned that much at least. I hope this game gets a sequel and I can’t wait to see what’s in it.

Prior to the latest patch, I'd have ranked the DLC purchases as "Survival > Underground > Last Stand" but now the Underground is way more fun than it was. Survival is still my favorite, but in terms of raw "grinding for gear" pleasure with some actual fun combat, Underground is where it's at.

All signs point to the Steam sale starting tomorrow so I'll probably just play some Underground tonight (I'm still at gear level like 190 something, so lots of gear to grind for). I want to keep the DLC all on steam if I can, so if the steam sale discount is good enough I'll buy it there.

Have you gotten any Classified gear out of the Underground? I'm still not sure where I need to start farming right now. Otherwise it looks like it will be Resistance to wave 10 to get the cache, quit, rinse repeat.

Underground is basically a semi-randomised dungeon that changes each time you go in. As you gain more Underground XP you can add modifiers to make it more difficult or add wrinkles to your play as well as more stages, up to a three stage (ie dungeon) mission with five modifiers on it.
If you've played Diablo 3 it's basically the Nephalem Rifts in a different wrapper.
I wouldn't necessarily run there at 30, because it's not an amazing source of gear and if I remember right, the intro mission is tricky if you don't have non-crappy gear. Getting a decent gun and so on would probably do you better as a fresh 30. However, once you're established, it's a great little stop that takes as little as 15 minutes for some easy exp and as a change from other activities. I also like the subway/powerstation/tunnels tileset a lot so I always enjoy the scenery down there.
