Man, I'm level 14 and was just trying to unlock some safe house for fast traveling but boy do Rikers not mess around.
Still conflicted on trying to make shotguns work because in most cases my LMG is just the better choice when guys are closing in so it feels like a wasted slot. May just stick to an LMG and AR.

Shotguns are handy but you're probably better off treating them as a backup weapon instead of trying to force them as a primary when solo. If you still have multiple enemies to deal with, swapping to the shotgun may not be a good idea. Swapping when your LMG has taken out a few of them is likely to work better as you're less likely to get swarmed and you can avoid the lengthy reload on many LMGs by switching to the shotgun instead of putting more bullets into the LMG.
Against Rikers specifically, their sharpshooters are really vulnerable to being rushed and flanked with a shotgun. Just don't try to do this while they have any of their own shotgun users still up.
Oh my shotgun is always a backup, but even as a backup it is barely used because the LMG is right there.
As for flanking and killing enemies, I like the idea of suppressing and moving in for the kill but honestly having an AR or sniper of my own is just a lot more effective and less likely to get me outflanked.
Man I wish they had a way to solo play survival. There's just nobody playing it anymore so I can't play it. On Xbox one the underground matchmaking never matches me with anyone either, not sure why, I'm sure there are people playing it still
I feel like my shotgun pulls its weight the most as a defensive option rather than an offensive one. Other weapon types felt better at putting numbers on chumps to me, so the risks inherent in using shotties aggressively didn't really seem worth it. However, a few guys pushing up toward your position? A shotgun still does good damage on them, and more importantly it can stagger them really well. Staggering won't make much of a difference if you've pushed up and are really in the thick of a bunch of guys, but a guy who's got you flanked? You can stunlock them nice and good with a shotty. Shotguns never really pulled off any big aggressive plays for me, but they definitely save my butt.

Man I reinstalled this and need to get back into it. Anyone interested in running some underground this weekend?
I figure I’m a day or two away from hitting max level on the pc and starting the new grind for gear.
From fresh level 30 what’s the best place to start? Event center and tunnel were the hotness last year but I didn’t have any of the dlc then and I’ve got it all now.
I’ll look at my uplay name when I get home and post it here in case anyone wants to join me (or let’s me join them).

Honestly, just mopping up side quests and encounters will get you geared up to world tier 1 pretty quick - exotics and purples seem to drop from everyone. Also, the lower tier HVTs will get you some decent gear.
Nope, they were being jerks. They may have been trying to loot other bodies in the area (they may have already been full, called in the extraction, then wanted to double up), but that'd be about it. There DZ just has people being jerks because they can sometimes; especially if they think they have the advantage. If you had been with a group, nothing would have happened.
PVP is mega terrible right now due to balance and classified set pieces. Honestly, it's always been garbage but when the game launched everyone was nervous and new and didn't know, but now that min/maxers have had a chance the nature of it is quite aweful. The DZ was specifically made so people could gank other players. Also, cheating is super rampant on the PC version because this game is "Client Trusted." Sooo. Yup.
I would very much love a PVP-free DZ with hunters running around instead of players. I love every other aspect of this game though.
I mean we had some min maxed sets going in on the dz back around launch. Ibrenember sone glitched reckless gear and what not.!my buddy would run heals and dps and I'd be rocking tactician with OP pulse and Smart Cover and we were pretty nasty
Just not sure what meta is letting people melt me while running through 5 folks in last stand without dying

I would put a heavy bet on 6 piece classified Striker or Predator if there's a bleed involved

6pc Predator set most likely. It's gonna be like this for at least another month as they won't be adjusting sets until they release the last of them in the next Global Event. I suggest trying a 6pc Nomad if you can get it, you won't be killing everyone in 2 seconds but you can run around laughing at their damage. (Soon as they fix bleed immunity issues predator won't be nearly as strong)
Man being away from this game for so long... The meta is hard to figure out non real time
I kind of hate that they combined all the tank stats into one number
Is there a way to see your damage resistance from armor still? Is armor still OP?
Is there a good spreadsheet for hard and soft caps for things like abilities and resistance?
Half the fun for me back at launch was taking all this info and trying to make my own builds based on that info. I did some truly ridiculous things with damage resistance (Smart Cover, mobile cover together with the right gear let me just stand in the incursion and tank the world.) but without access to the caps and not keeping up with the changes it feels impossible to figure out at this point

"Armor" was removed IIRC.
Think it was replaced by random mods on your existing gear.

Armour is still good, but you can't gear for it anymore, it's just what's on your base items. I think anything that had armour as a bonus stat got health as a replacement.
Yeah it seems like entire star screens are removed. I remember experimenting a lot with stacking things abdvseeing how it impacted my resistance stat. As the number would go up or down real time as statuses were applied.
Now they kinda removed the behind the scenes details and you just see an aggregate value
But I also recall reading stuff like damage resistance having a cap now. So u can't stack things to be nigh invulnerable or make crit rate near 100% etc
Which is fine, just don't know what I'd need to know as far as caps and rules and stats to get back into the spreadsheet warrior building I'd do back at launch
Also, survival mode, is it always an hour plus per run or when I get good will it be much shorter?

There is an achievement for extracting under 20mins so it can be pretty quick if you just book it for the DZ and get lucky I think.
I've not done that as I'm more concerned with getting points on the board/enjoying the experience. I'd say an hour or so is probably about right for a smooth run.

I have all the achievements in this game on Xbox and this one is news to me, is this a Steam achievement that consoles dont have?

Sounds like it would be an in game commendation as opposed to a an XBox Live achievement. It's definitely not a Steam one as there are no Steam achievements due to Ubisoft wanting to push UPlay over Steam.
Haha, man I really wish I had more weapon slots though it makes sense why they limit you to two. I get a nice blue sniper rifle and I think LMG and Sniper rifle is an awesome combo--suppress and snipe heads. Then I go to some tunnels and come across a big guy in enclosed spaces and want my shotgun.

Yeah got the two mixed up, it's a commendation called "time sensitive materials" that also has score bonus you may have seen on the end screen. It's only about 600 points or so I think.

After a couple of days faffing about, I finally figured out how to change my World Tier and now I'm wondering what I should be playing at? I have up to WT 4 unlocked - should I just be playing as high as I can, or is there some other strategy?

I would say to follow general Diablo 3 rules: Play at whatever difficulty lets you melt through red and purple dudes quickly...but yellow/gold guys take a little longer (but not too long) and don't pose too high a risk of killing you to gear up. Once yellow/golds melt faster than an ice cube in an industrial smelter, bump up to the next tier.
Alternatively, grind bird credits to get a 256 weapon or weapon blueprint, and jump into the highest tier you can because, depending on the weapon, it'll shred anything below WT5.

Okay. So, I bought this game when it first came out but for a variety of reasons I never really played it. I've been hearing a lot about this new patch, and I had a week off for the holidays so I thought I'd give it a spin.
My first character has died at least once on each of the first three introductory missions, and after a half-dozen deaths on the mission that gets you out of the newbie introductory area I've put it down again. Am I just too old or too bad at these types of games to play this? Is it going to simply be an exercise in frustration? I mean, in most games, the introductory missions are super-simple; I'm thinking that is the introductory missions are "too hard" that it's only going to get progressively worse as I go further.
Should I just give up and call this one a loss, or am I doing something wrong here?

make sure you're fighting from cover, pretty much always. If you're just running and gunning, you're going to die a lot. Pick your shots as well from cover. You can pin one enemy down, then shoot the other when they poke their head up, etc. Also, don't let them get in close range to you. The melee and shotgun enemies will put a hurt on you quickly.

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
If you get a blueprint that's for GS256 or up, it can be. You get a ton of parts. I wouldn't try raising something from the 204 tier up though.

Course I'm pretty much doing the same thing while having the same goals, I just happen to shoot people who do have guns and I use less flamethrowers.
This is quite the moral quandry and...ooo look a new beanie.
I did so, and the other player was sufficiently irritated that they went Rogue, forcing me to kill them.
I wouldn't mind if someone used my rope, but I want to know if I unwittingly broke some unwritten rule.
