There is a parrying dagger. Don't have one, yet, so can't compare with my target-shield.

That there's a fucking tarp on Aldrich's throne is amazing.

cleared first area, did a little bit of the second

    observations:
first boss was fine? second kicked my ass repeatedly. a nice little fuck you to those of us who watched the network test; "oh that's the boss for sure, let's go the other way... ruh roh"

the sheer hell i went through to get the claymore was ludicrous. fuck that dragon and the dragonrider that rode in on him.

the lothric knight guys with the spear and tower shield can fuck a duck.

"beware of fatty" is gonna get a lot of mileage this game, i can tell already.

i got like, four straight swords before i found anything else. fuck this heteronormative shitlord video game where is my zweihander

People playing on the PC version are you using KBAM or a plugged in controller somehow?

I've only ever played these games on console, but I want to try it on PC but I'm not looking forward to KBAM.

Most PC gamers by now have snagged a controller of some kind for games like this.

It's even actually being promo'ed with the Steam Controller currently.

I picked up a steam controller and I played with it last night.

I have a custom controller configuration set up if anyone has any interest in that sort of thing. The normal way of holding the steam controller was kind of hurting my hands after a while, so I did some button remapping so I never have to hit R1 or L1. It works great!

The parry timing in this baffles me. What is it? I cant tell if it's more like DS1, or DS2...if it's more like 2, then I guess I'm sticking with a weapon arts activating shield forever.

It's like 2. Parries have a windup animation prior to their parry frames. Different items have differently sized windows. Also it looks like there are partial parries where you at least mitigate incoming damage if you whiff a parry with a near miss.
So stick with a weapon arts shield. Gotcha.

Try parrying with an offhand scimitar. The windup is extremely short.

That Steam controller video looks nice. I bought one and quickly gave up on it because I foolishly tried to learn to use it when Just Cause 3 came out. Probably not the ideal game to learn on.
I should give it another go.

Just Cause 3 was actually the first game I played a lot of on the Steam Controller and I thought it was great. There's a community config with gyro aiming that works really well.

It's not stat controlled in this. Everyone has a base set of iframes that can be effected by equip load and items (there are items that specifically say they extend roll invincibility).

Didn't have much trouble with the first two bosses. Boss number 3 is making up for it, though.

I've got a +2 halberd at this point which is doing respectable damage, but I feel like I should be at +3 by now. Haven't come across too much titanite unfortunately.

The red eyes knight guy gave me some trouble, but he has a long cooldown on his final attack and he can be stunlocked. Also, his weapon buff doesn't give him super armor so you can wail on him during that. Took me a few tries, but success! I like his shield.

Well. Looks like my game is fucked. Constant crashes in Firelink Shrine. I guess this is the game suggesting I try "All the other sweet classes we have!"

What fucking pants. Too focused on getting game out to pre-streamers, couldn't be bothered to get it to playtesters (and yes all games have issues for some people at launch, but these are consistent issues across people with consistent machines).

Hey people who don't like playing online - look what I just found going through the options:

    75byshduro2m.jpg

I don't guarantee that this will be what you want, but it looks suspiciously like it?

It's not what they want. They want purely beneficial co-op /carrying, hints from messages and bloodstains, and zero threat of hostile invaders.

That's not entirely truthful. Some folks want that. Me, I just wanted to at the very least have the game give me an option in that doesn't require that I find a walkthrough for setting up Firewall whatevers. Just something quick and easy.

Which it looks like that exists, so yay!

And about controllers, I played through DS1 and am playing through DS2 with the Steam controller, and other than changing the camera controls on the right pad from a mouse-like input to a stick-like input 1:1, I so far kept everything else the same, though I'm considering mapping jump to the left grip as well as the stick button press. I also like X being mapped to both X and the right grip, a slight twitch and I'm healing or using whatever other item. Honestly my only problem thus far has come from DS2 reading directional inputs for selecting weapons, spells and items much more precisely, which sometimes means it switches the wrong thing, but it's only if I get a bit panicked.

Yep, spears are why I chose Herald. I had also forgotten how much I missed the shield after playing BB.

I'm trying a mostly blind play-through the first time, but I think I'm going to try Dex/Faith. Maybe?

It looks like the game does not save your configs and so (thinking it did) kept dying with the light not set to LOW. So. Pro. Eh.

And the stuttering is becoming even more frequent.

There are still regular crystal lizards in DS3, they're not all like that.

So a small QoL thing that is super appreciated by me: If you hold down on your dpad, it goes to the item in slot 1, so no need to frantically flip through all the items and accidentally go past your estus flask.

Beat first 3 bosses, all first try.

Still can't kill the katana shitlord.

Just make him the end boss already because I'm not even kidding when I say the only enemy it took more attempts for me to beat was Artorias.

I've died to this guy 8 times, no boss in DS1 or 2 (except Artorias) took me more than 5 attempts.
