They had no business bringing the dogs from BB in here; they weren't fun there and aren't fun here. Or any infinite combo mobs honestly.
they haven't been bloodborne scary for me so far
i'll sometimes actually willingly fight more than one at a time, which is a lot more than i can say for bloodborne. maybe it's a heavy weapon thing? when i hit them, if they don't die, they go flying
Started this game a bit. There's something weird about how it feels, I think. Can't quite put my finger on it though.
Currently on the undead settlement, I think. The area that looks like the Inquisition came home, complete with big female Inquisitor Mozgus giving fire hugs. Would love to find some more weapons, though. Maybe I missed stuff in the previous area, but I'm having to use the Uchigatana because that and a Lucerne hammer are basically the only weapons I have. Uchi dude was kind of an asshole, mind, took like four or five attempts to down him without either dying or throwing myself off the cliff by accident. Also, those damn knights on the walls - after two games, I'm finally going to have to learn how to parry, aren't I.
Geez I feel kind of guilty now because I've been drowning in weapons mid way through Lothric. I only have the 10 Luck from being Deprived so I doubt it's that.
Check some of the NPCs you save back in firelink, they'll have some purchasable weapons and armors if you're not finding enough while out and about.
Broadsword seems to be the weapon I finally settled on and upgraded some and boy that makes a difference. However, I find another weapon I'm trying out with the best STR scaling thus far but we'll see. Broadsword swiftness, guard break and lunge charge attack have served me well.
Edit: Browsing this thread there seems to be a whole lot of stuff I missed. Not terribly surprising but my first playthrough is mostly bumbling through. Which is great fun due to all the weapons I can find (and use most of them).
I also like how firebombs scale with STR and thrown daggers with DEX giving you a viable range option that drops often enough you don't have to feel like conserving it.
So i'm in the undead settlement and i'm picking through everything moving on slow and i reach
The Lift that onionbro is stuck at well going through that and fighting the big fire demon thing with him i'm thinking "I want to be a divine knight" character Melee faith but i need some sweet holy knight armor dark souls delivers at the end of that area guarded by 2 fat ministers was a drop down area at the bottom a Mirrah knight set

Yeah, you missed some stuff. There doesn't seem to be quite the variety available early on in this though (compared to the early blacksmiths in the first two).

If anyone is having issues with getting the 360/XBone controller working on Dark Souls 3, go to control panel -> device manager and disable any HID compliant game controller, unplug and replug the controller then start steam.
It does not seem to differentiate between controllers, so be sure to re-enable HID when you want to use other plug and play/3rd party controllers.
So I walked into this wide open space thinking man this looks like a boss arena ... That instant the boss spawned . At least it was easy
Welcome to Bloodsouls.
Seriously though I'm so glad they kept the no fog doors for bosses until you encounter them. That ominous dread stumbling across a fairly open space and thinking "This is totally a boss area" was one of my favorite things about Bloodborne.
Set the d-pad to radial without overlap and make sure require clicks is on. There's no reason whatsoever to use diagonals on the d-pad in Dark Souls, so by telling to the controller to ignore them you can make each cardinal direction bigger and thus practically impossible to screw up.
The Steam controller works great with Dark Souls 3 just like it does with the other two games, but you need to change a few things from the ill-conceived default config. I think it must have been made by a Valve employee who isn't familiar with the game. Right off the bat you need to change the camera controls to mouse-like joystick so you don't lose camera control when menus or prompts are on the screen, replace that dumb touch menu with R3, and make the changes to the d-pad that I suggested to Kalnaur previously. Everything else is to taste. I wish I could share my config, but saving configs doesn't seem to work for me.
I'll make sure to check that out; I wasn't aware that was a default set of options.

In the end I just went back to the longsword. I tried the great scythe, but it seems to do shit all for damage. It was hitting for 45 on enemies that the Uchi was hitting for 85 or so, despite having more attack in theory.
Yeah, but apparently you have to wait until you've beaten 3 of the lords, which is going to be a while into the game. I suppose it gives me a reason to try and rank up the blue protector people instead.

I'm guessing the great scythe has a sweet spot to do max damage but it's likely unwieldy to take advantage of.
Do we have definitive data on how weapon item buffs work?
aka weapon does 100 dmg physical
you add fire or lightning or dark to it
is that extra damage or will it just take part of the damage and convert it to dark? both?
Okay, so, basically, yes, and no.
Yes, it is extra damage, however, whatever elemental damage you have on a weapon goes through a separate damage calculation, so it's effected by armor and resistance separate from the physical portion.
Basically, that's what allows a weapon to do extra damage to enemies weak to the element, and less/even to everything else.
Nah, infusions may deal less because they reduce one type and add another, but buffs are straight up extra and shouldn't be dealing less even if the extra is resisted to shit.
Apparently the Symbol of Avarice is in, so maybe the coins are the best gift.
I am the dumbest human being in this goddam hemisphere . Spent two hours trying to extinguish the four flames . There are only three and the door had open a long time ago .

I got it from the only mimic I've seen so far. So either it's a guaranteed or I got lucky.
Also, looks like there is a bug, where if a phantom you summon immediately leaves/gets disconnected, the other phantoms cant get into the boss fog door.

Another new souls game, another 3+ hours wasted on character creation in an attempt to make something passingly human looking. How I've missed you, Dark Souls.
Random musings so far:
- Covenants don't take up ring slots... Thank you. Don't remember if it was like this in BB or not as I never played it again beyond my first run through.
- The skill moves on weapons are nice, gives everything a bit more variety. Though I find I never actually use any of them beyond messing around.
- I've found that I miss some things from DS2 more than I would have thought. Powerstancing being gone kind of sucks, as I liked the system, even if it wasn't perfect. Also, a minor quibble, I miss your character being out of breath after expending all your stamina. It was a nice small touch to give your fashion doll a bit more life.
- The tutorial boss as a deprived killed me half a dozen times, which was largely due to me not being able to get my controller properly setup so I forged ahead with KBaM. This proved to be a mistake.
- In comparison, the first actual boss was a joke.
- I accidentally back stabbed the uchikatana guy outside of the firelink shrine and kicked him off a cliff. I'm assuming he just dropped his weapon, which I wouldn't have used anyway, but still kind of a bit irritated by that.
But yeah, put about 6 hours into it so far. Been taking my time exploring everywhere. The environments and everything are just so great. Good to have the series come back for a strong finish. BB was fine, but it couldn't grab me in quite the same way.

the R2 has a follow up now which just makes it even greater
I'll make sure to check that out; I wasn't aware that was a default set of options.
Guess I get to mostly miss out on the only interesting covenant.

Rami, google it, there is a work around for if you missed the first chance to get into it.
The what now.
I just killed a horrible tree thing. Is that what you mean? Did I also miss on the covenant? Damn it if so.
He two shot me when I tried to get a decent screenshot.

Didn't say anything about dogs in general in Dark Souls. These are the exact dogs from BB, which isn't a plus.
Already tired of getting wailed into a corner in a 2v1 fight and then gesture spammed
that was the best fucking boss fight in the series
I got it from the only mimic I've seen so far. So either it's a guaranteed or I got lucky.
question about getting the claymore.
So I repeatedly killed him a little and now I have all parts of his gear except the helmet. (he also drops embers)
His sword seems to have a Longsword moveset which is my favorite moveset from DS2.
The real Dark Souls begins here.
