Dark Souls 1 was my favorite game for a long time. Recently Dark Souls 2 took its place. 3 doesn't make it onto the numbered rankings I don't think. We'll see if the DLC changes that.
But in 5 years when the PS4 is dirt cheap I will buy a bloodbourne machine

I know being unpleasant is Dark Soul's thing, but man I kinda wish that there were more friendly people in the game. Like you could only barely talk to NPCs in the game, when I first ran into them I was really hoping you could interact with them more or have them join you.

There's a reason why my favorite characters are always of the Solaire/Seigmeyer/Siegward type.
I really enjoy the lore and setting of the games, but "everything sucked in the past, it sucks now, and it will suck in the future" eventually gets tiresome, and i'm kind of glad the series is over and they can try something else.

So I am without real internet for the next 5 or so weeks (because fuuuuuck our national telcos monopoly seriously) and have been trying to see which games I can play without the internet. I finished Sleeping Dogs, that was great. I figured I'd finally finish Torchlight 2 and uninstall it, but it it unwilling to start without an internet connection. So I am trying FTL.
I am bad at FTL. How do I "git gud" at FTL? 8 runs on easy so far and I haven't managed to finish one yet! I just never have enough resources for anything.

Get the Fed Cruiser and then win everything always.
Chris, FTL is all about synchronization of your weapons in the beginning; time those suckers to impact all at the same time. If you hit a string of shops that sell 2 and 3 shot lasers, fuck the missiles and fuck the drones because 4 lasers at 3 shots each is like having six missiles off at once. I've had that set up many times and found myself laughing like Tim Curry in Legend.
After that, you gotta branch out and use every tool you happen across and learn how they work: some are situational dominators with huge drawbacks, others are average or better in almost any situation. Crew makes a big deal too, gotta learn what goes where and why.
It's a little cheaty, but you can camp an asteroid field when you have sufficient shield power and train your whole crew up in one zone and the shield repair skill. Actually, fuck that, it's a goddamned survival tactic, abuse the shit out of it.

Dark souls 1 is probably my favorite game in the past 10 years or so. Its really the only game of my adult life that i continually look back at and compare things to. That and Red Dead I guess, but I only played that to completion once.

In other random thoughts, goddamn Hitman is fun. Im still only wandering around the first level and just tooling around. Its got some crazy exploration to it that I was just not expecting.

Ask Athenor he knows what's up.
I'm pretty sure they fixed the asteroid thing when they added the new race and stuff. But yeah, properly timing your shots shaves a ton of difficulty off the game, especially early on. Also, be sure to upgrade your doors at least once asap, boarders will fuck your shit right up if they have the run of the place. Locked doors mean you can keep them out of the room with oxygen when you open the airlocks, which you should do as soon as you hear a teleporter. Unless you'e fighting the spiky metal guys who don't breathe and eat air, then you gotta do things the hard way.

Well shit. I have a handful more runs under my belt, I've made it to the boss fight twice now!
I still don't know how to beat it. I figured out the timing shots thing pretty early, it does MASSIVELY increase your effectiveness.
Still, I had enough of getting fucked and decided I wanted to do some fucking.
So I fired up Hotline Miami. I got a few missions in years ago and stopped.
Now I know why.
Uninstalled that, installed Tropico 3, now I am off to run my own socialist island paradise and chillax a bit...
The cloaking module in FTL is petty great whenever you get back around to it. You can activate it when you see the enemy fire at you, dodge their attack and then they won't charge their weapons until you turn back visible.
My friend is working on a roguelike game you can play if you want to. (It has free demo)
FTL is definitely a game that you will improve on as you play it, even though it feels impossible at first. There's a lot of random chance, but the more you know about its systems, the better you can turn those random events to your advantage. If your ideal weapons or upgrades aren't coming up, it it's vital to know when to stop saving for them and use something different instead.
I really have not played FTL for some time as the random aspect of it was annoying me
I could get the doughnut of war to the end and still have the same guns and drones so I was basically screwed
I'm a long, long way from being an expert, but I think one of the first things I learned after not just auto-firing my weapons but timing them so they'd hit when shields were down, was not to panic about the oncoming fleet. I was trying to race through sectors as quick as I could to put some distance there, but then you miss out on SO MUCH scrap. It helped to try to stay just ahead, pick a route through the system early and allow myself to wander a little if something came up, but try to leave just as the fleet was about to hit.
Hit as many nodes as you possibly can before you go to the next sector.
There's also a lot to be said for learning which events you should not bother trying if you don't have a blue option.
Stuff like the disease outbreak and the spiders off the top of my head. If you don't have the requirements for a blue selection to show up, you're often better off telling them to fend for themselves and fucking off.
That's mostly something you learn over time though. You lose enough dudes to spiders and then you say no more.
Maddoc on

Oh yeah, if they're having that delirium event and I don't have one of those mind-meldy slugs on board?
And until you even know there's such a thing as a blue option for those events, it just feels like the game going "ha ha I kill your crew" indiscriminately.

Unlock stuff, learn weapons, learn events.

Just started picking up parts for a fresh new PC, now that the 1070 is right around the corner. Ordered an i5-6600K this morning.
My current PC is running an i7-870 from like seven years ago.
Yeah or this. This is a much more concise way to put it.
Hey now, that isn't such a "bad" processor.
Hmm.
