Oh my god fuck Gi Nattak.

And fuck Dr. Mog, for suggesting I use Reflect. All that did for me was reduce my ability to heal from the fire damage, because it doesn't reflect all-cast Fira!

I brought Carbuncle, is the thing. And they didn't get possessed until I'd basically lost anyway.

I'll go and change up my team. Perhaps if I bring Mog with the magic-break dance.

I thought I was ready for Nightmare Evrae with Pulse of Life and Lakshmi.

I was most certainly not. I think I could take him with a slight rejiggering of my setup and a bit of luck since I got him down to his last third of HP in his final form, but then Aerith died, almost everyone was basically out of hones except Tyro and Relm, but she got stuck in a feedback loop of having to Lakshmi every turn and his damage was anemic, even with Basch's shield powering his holy stuff. Then my haste and shell from RW ran out and nope.

    Okay, Gi Nattak is dead.

Turns out I had enough orbs to craft Multibreak and Heathen Frolic Sarabande, so I gave both to Mog and had him kill the enemies' damage output, like a small scale version of his Heroic Harmony.

Got around to doing Ultima Buster last night. That fight was remarkably easy (since I already knew that the trick was to overload on Fire and Lightning abilities). I think I might actually grind it for XP, since I had no problem clearing it first try with BMs that were level 65 of 80. Could probably grind up some ninjas, too.

So, about the new Dark spells that just came out. Should I craft Darkra, or is it a reward from the Kuja event?

So, Retaliate is cool and all. Except when it wears off, and you kill off Cloud because he takes a round of attacks.

The new Darkness spells (note: not Black Magic, they're a different ability type) are Memento Mori and Dark Zone. They should be rewards from the Kuja event.

If you want a Dark spell for your non-Darkness Black Mage, you should probably go with Drainga instead of Darkra, btw. The multiplier is a bit less (7.0 rather than 9.0), but if you are specifically bringing a Dark spell, it's to hit a weakness, so 14.0 is probably good enough. And the self-heal that comes with Drainga can be very relevant.

Try reconfiguring your set up. I made it through with just Healing Wind and Portrait. Only needed Raise R1, which I think we got for free.

Dispel is useful in the last phase, I had Tyro burn through the rest of Lightning Scroll and sit waiting to dispel Haste/Shell.

I already have an R2 copy of Drainga, so I'll stick with that for dark black magic. My Ebon Armor should be good for either Terra or a Dark Knight to use to enhance dark element stuff.

Hmm, I didn't notice Tiamat being especially bad when I fought it, but I did bring my A-team. Looking up the AI for it, it does seem to have Ultimate level stats (287k hp, 907 DEF, 1168 RES), so it's not a joke fight. Does look like it would be pretty awful to try to fight with a mage team, though, between the elemental affinities and the 100% Reflect counter.

The two key things that I need to do are frontload a medica to deal with that opening scythe that hits everyone for 2000 which I spent too long having to fix, and only worry about killing three mirrors. A Lakshmi set to go as 2nd Evrae dies should handle the massive explosion just fine and preserve some hones. My casting could've been distributed better too. I think I might also bring Shell and RW Divine Guardian instead to really cripple that photon spray crap.

It also didn't help on that run that the Guado Guardian literally did nothing but cast hastes, and only even a couple bios. Didn't see a single shell. At one point, it cast a haste immediately after the last was dispelled, and stupid Evrae got three turns before I could dispel it. That's how Aerith bit it.

What's your party set up looking like? I used:

    Healer A (Aerith) Curaja/Shellga
    Healer B (Y'shtola - Wall) Curaga/Diaga
    DPS A (Relm) Diara/Raise
    DPS B (Selphie) Diara/Esuna
    Tyro Ninja Scroll/Dispel

If I was going to do it again, I would've switched Relm and Y'shtola's roles. Ran into the same issue you're having where if I didn't burn through all Relm's hones by Phase 3, she was healing more than putting through damage.

And also would've crafted a second Diaga versus Disra.

Whee, the four guardians for Evrae Altana are down. Tiamat was the only troublesome one, with that horrible requirement to hit an earth weakness. If I hadn't been forced into taking a mage to use Quake on her, the fight would have been way easier. Man of the hour was Balthier, because even with being fire resistant, with a good synergy weapon and shout up, the first Strahl Strafe hit for a little under 30k, the next two for over 40k. He probably accounted for half of her health right there. I might have been better off using Agrias instead, but her SSB is AOE so it has a lower multiplier, and it is 4 hits so it couldn't have exceeded 40k like Balthier's did. Probably about the same overall, though Balthier had a stronger synergy weapon since Agrias is unable to use guns, and my best non-gun synergy weapons are an axe and a bow. Vincent ended up defending for about half the battle, after using up his two casts of Quake and four casts of Ruinga, and I would have much rather had Agrias or Zack there instead except for the medal condition. I guess I could have brought Agrias instead of Balthier, given Balthier's gun to Vincent and had him carry one of the breakdowns in addition to Quake, but that wouldn't have given him enough actions to last the battle anyway. I'd say that fight was roughly on par with the recent Ultimates, which makes sense since it has the same 140 difficulty rating.

Evrae Altana can sit there for a while yet, I only have 3 MND weapons and one of them is the freebie we got this past week. I also don't really have the right ability hones, so combined with my lack of a Medica on a white mage I think I can just save myself the frustration and skip this fight for now. Thankfully none of the possible 6* abilities are even remotely tempting (and I'm pretty sure that even if you have all of the available crystals, you still couldn't craft any of them).

Ugh, try #2 (more like 7) failed when it reared to use Nightmare Poison, was immediately hasted, and I had stupidly allowed Exdeath to use his last Curaja just previously before going onto permanent Esuna duty, so despite his meter being half full, that still wasn't fast enough. Jesus fuck, is it fast in phase 3. Everyone was in good shape at that point, with enough hones in the pocket to finish it though, despite an awkward end of phase 2 where mitigation fell off and three people died seconds before it was reapplied. Hooray for reraise.

    Edit:
You'd think I'd learn, but the exact same fucking thing happened again when it was at like 3% HP because I thought to myself "This very well might finish it off, might as well."

I am so hyped for Darkness magic. Finally the Vincent's Coat I pulled weeks ago will have a real use for me. Being able to stack a 35% MAG buff with a 30% MAG buff, and then use a 13.5x/2 ability is going to be pretty nice. Extra bonus points for Steiner (Ultimate) being weak to Dark element, so if I don't hit 20k a round with Dark Zone I'm going to be a little annoyed.

I brought Yuffie with her Earth SB and used Theif's revenge a lot. Also Dismissal which was awesome since it procced a lot. I really need to use Dismissal more, 6 uses is awesome.

I can't wait for lvl 80 Yuffie, with 4 hits she was hitting for right around 9k with everything running and on the Tiamat fight that's pretty impressive, especially without synergy

Fuck you in your snake hole, snake.

    rv069h2.jpg

I got frustrated and honed an extra Diaga and Diara in hopes of more damage than Tyro's ninja stuff since I wasn't really using the AoE and need like, 30 more MHOs to get Saint Cross up to the next level anyway so will be going hard on the next holy orbfest most likely, plus they should be useful for Summoner Abyss. Damage increase for Aerith/Yuna did help a lot, but the second Diara was dumb because it was only a marginal increase for Tyro. And cherry on the top of that cake, it rolled over and stopped doing anything in the final phase so I coasted to victory. Kind of.

It tried to use Nightmare Breath four times in the final phase, which meant that it otherwise pretty much stopped attacking. Was nerve wracking as fuck because not once, but fucking TWICE after the 50% mark, literally moments after I canceled a Nightmare Breath, it started charging another. I'm really going to have to take a closer look at those mechanics, because there is something extra fucky going on with the timing if I was able to cancel those (probably just barely), but not the ones in previous attempts when I had more ATB when they started. Exdeath was a champ this time though and managed to cancel all three, plus a fourth when I accidentally reacted to a Shell by having him cast Esuna.

Still could've gone smoother. I misjudged damage on the end of phase 2 and it had a tiny sliver of HP left, so I ended up wasting a Lakshmi and extending the battle, which had been super dangerous because haste has a tendency to run out towards the end, opening me up for all kinds of crap (which didn't happen because above). I let Exdeath finish the second phase with Grand Cross for shits and giggles. I also mis-pressed a cast and a Shell went un-broken for the last third or so of its HP.

1 medal lost for turns, 2 for damage, but that's not that surprising considering I tanked through 3 lens explosions.

    Stats & setup.

    MUfiMmz.jpghdJQw6l.jpg

    SBs:
    Tyro: Wall
    Aerith: Pulse of Life
    Relm: Lakshmi

    RW: Divine Guardian

Worst attempt: Opened up with the Scythe crit on Relm, one-shotting her before anybody could move.

Did the lucky draw, got Aerith's healing wind. The only one out the entire banner I had. Hmm.

Better than nothing but kind of a kick in the ass?

Tried the nightmare stuff and it was pretty much impossible. No MC2 so limited RM choices and just kind of weak characters. Low hones would also be a problem if I wasn't dead long before running out of anything.

Dug around my items and realized I have Golbez's ebony armor and Thancred's ninja armor. Both characters i do not have. Considering using hero souls just to have more better than trash SB users. Also ninja moves are rad.

Synergy bonus for characters is literally just +10 levels. The cut point is 170 speed, which most of the thiefy types hit at level 73.

@Narbus the cool PDF listed in the first post covers Thief's Revenge cutoffs in a special section "Notes on specific abilities" right before the individual breakdown of every ability.

You can also check out character stats at each level cap (50, 65, 80, 99) in "Enlir's FFRK Database":

Both of those SBs are way behind the power creep. Golbez's does less damage than an -aja spell (though split over two hits, so it may have some value. Also that Sap proc, for the rare boss that's vulnerable to it). The other thing the armor does is boost Dark damage (which boosts the SB to "equal to -aja"), and there aren't many Darkness magic users that wear heavy armor, so he may be good for you as a body to carry Memento Mori + Dark Zone if you can get that far in the Kuja event (and have the pile of orbs to hone DZ). Or you could give the armor to someone like Dark Cecil for use with Dark Bargain + Sanguine Cross.

Thancred's is a 3.5x single hit, which isn't great, but it's AOE and does have a 100% slow proc. I wouldn't recommend emptying out your supply of hero souls to get them, but if you've got souls to spare, you might find a use for them.

So, I just did a trial run at Nightmare Evrae, and will need to practice my P2 strats a bit. But having Rosa's Miracle lets me bring Faith, and consequently Tyro is doing 9k with Phantasm and 5.8k AoE with Fire Veil.

This is a pretty awkward composition; lot of single target buffs and debuffs to throw around. I don't think I'll have to make any extra hones to do this, though. Will probably push the two Dias to R4 from R3, but that's about it.

Diara/Haste on Aerith (with +44% Holy)
    Diaga/Faith on Selphie
    Curaja/Dispel on Rosa
    Curaga/Esuna on Ysh'tola.
