I'm kinda wishing I didn't get the Wutai Headband in SSBfest right now since I could hone Saint Cross to R3, be done and start saving for Full Charge. But I'm so tempted to yolo upgrade TR to 3 since Yuffie gets 5 hits in a weeks time
lol Tiamat. only 2 target scores, immune to everything except earth damage, and earth is one of the target scores.
Why not just make it "you must do this with 4 characters" and don't force me to bring a mage to cast quake twice and sit on their hands the rest of the fight.
Technically Tiamat is not immune to other elements, she just resists them. With Balthier at like 430 ATK before Shout, with Shout up the first cast of Strahl Strafe did a little under 30k damage, and the two subsequent ones did a bit over 40k. Along with his other ability uses, he accounted for about half of Tiamat's health pool. I did also have armor breakdown applied through the power of dance, so that obviously helped as well, and he had Soldier Strike for another 10% damage on top (should have had Pride of the Red Wings, but I forgot to take it from Agrias after I sent her to the bench in favor of Vincent for the medal conditions). So, while not ideal, if you have buffs and synergy going you can still drop a lot of damage on Tiamat with elemental attacks.
Dug around my items and realized I have Golbez's ebony armor and Thancred's ninja armor. Both characters i do not have. Considering using hero souls just to have more better than trash SB users. Also ninja moves are rad.
Both of those SBs are way behind the power creep. Golbez's does less damage than an -aja spell (though split over two hits, so it may have some value. Also that Sap proc, for the rare boss that's vulnerable to it). The other thing the armor does is boost Dark damage (which boosts the SB to "equal to -aja"), and there aren't many Darkness magic users that wear heavy armor, so he may be good for you as a body to carry Memento Mori + Dark Zone if you can get that far in the Kuja event (and have the pile of orbs to hone DZ). Or you could give the armor to someone like Dark Cecil for use with Dark Bargain + Sanguine Cross.
Thancred's is a 3.5x single hit, which isn't great, but it's AOE and does have a 100% slow proc. I wouldn't recommend emptying out your supply of hero souls to get them, but if you've got souls to spare, you might find a use for them.
What, does the armor not work for physical darkness attacks, like Sanguine Cross?
Also, you can use the armor on Terra, or other armored black mages, to boost the power of Drainga.

The Ebon Armor does indeed boost the physical darkness attacks like Sanguine Cross. It also works on any dark element soul breaks. The armor itself, however, does not have any attack on it, but does have magic, which is why people try and use it on mages when possible.
For Tiamat, I brought Vincent with r2 Ruinga and r1 Quake, he sat out about half the fight with Defend active. The rest of my party was able to make up the damage because I have good abilities, synergy weapons and soul breaks. I can see Tiamat being a roadblock for many people because of the earth element medal condition combined with only being able to lose 2 medals if you want mastery.
Balthier can use the regular breaks, which are not that much less effective, especially since Tiamat resists the effect. Putting Terra on the front line with Power Breakdown (and maybe one of Ashe's swords if you have any of those?) is a possibility, it at least lets Terra contribute some damage beyond Quake. Terra can't use Full Break unfortunately. It's really a shame that the only Support 5 with a good attack stat is Ramza, all of the others are way down at the bottom of the list for physical fighters.
Any particular reason you want to use Balthier, besides the fact that he gets synergy for the fight?
Was nerve wracking as fuck because not once, but fucking TWICE after the 50% mark, literally moments after I canceled a Nightmare Breath, it started charging another. I'm really going to have to take a closer look at those mechanics, because there is something extra fucky going on with the timing if I was able to cancel those (probably just barely), but not the ones in previous attempts when I had more ATB when they started.
I just had this happen and had to S/L because of it because, even at 1 battle speed, even Hasted, I couldn't get to my Esuna caster to input the command in time because I had to skip two other party members first.
One run ended because she Stopped Cloud. Another because she Stopped Selphie, who was prepping my RW at the time, which of course causes the RW to be locked out for my entire team.
Need to do a bit more tweaking for Nightmare Evrae, but I'm pretty confident. The Guado Guardian has a lot less HP than I was expecting, and I wasted too many half-hones of Dia spells killing him. Gonna retool Tyro for slightly less Phantasm and somewhat more Fire Veil damage, and basically have him burn the Guardian down, perhaps with some help from my healers.

Honestly you can just ignore the Guardian. You need to kill him three times if you want him to go away (he respawns immediately), he doesn't attack, he just buffs Evrae with Shell, Haste, or Bio. Since you need esuna for Bio anyways that's no big deal, and if you bring dispel you can just time it so you dispel whatever Evrae has before your wave of attacks. If you are killing it via AoE that's fine, I just wouldn't worry too much about him.
Also note that if the Guardian applies Bio, it may take longer than 1 turn for Evrae to use Nightmare Poison Breath after it is applied as opposed to when Evrae uses it on himself and immediately preps for Nightmare Posion Breath.

I honed Tornado Strike to R2, egged Celes to 75 and beat Bahamut U+. My past couple of attempts ended miserably because I was lacking a whole lot of damage.
With Shout buff and no RS, she was doing 2x5.5k per Tornado Strike, 7k per Aeroga, 3x7k per Spinning Blade ult, which was pretty decent. I swapped out a Black Mage + Zack for Celes and Cid, just because Cid had access to Wind Jump. Turned out Cid was doing 9999 per wind jump and about 2.3k x 4 ~ 4k x 4 for his ult which was superb. Jumping also meant that he was dodging some damage, which was helpful.
With full mitigation, vacuum wave was doing about 500 dmg. Funny how swapping out a couple of characters changed the entire fight for me

If you do want to kill the Guado Guardian, you could always just use Raise on him 3 times. Otherwise just use Dispel and Esuna, since you probably brought them anyway (I think the second mirror is depowered by Dispel instead of Esuna, not certain).
I brought both poisona and esuna as well as R3 raise to the nightmare, but I had to back out and retool and switch out Beatrix for Porom (WHO STILL HASN'T DROPPED THEIR RM) as Saint's cross really isn't worth it even against the lenses.
Evrae has 600 spd in phase 3 and can be hasted, the thought of having one poison removal there sounds awful.
Is Beatrix's One-Eyed General RM equivalent to Decil's Pride of Red Wings RM?
edit:
Wait, argh. Her MCII is only available as the reward for the ++ fight in this very event? Gah. So much for putting her in my team for the "auto everything" phase of the event.

Yes, and MC2s are always in + battles.
Yeah. My frustration with that is because I thought I either already had it, or could get it via the Vault. Didn't quite understand, initially, that it's new. I'll wait, and use her in the first phase of whatever the next event is.
And some day, I'll take Decil into some FFIV dungeons, so I can get Gore Stained Blade II, and eventually Pride of Red Wings. Beatrix's is the easier one to grab right now, though.
I'm very excited to get a second 20% sword damage RM, as with Lightning and Agrias in my A team I'm pretty much always using 2 swords outside of weird realms. Just need a 20% spear damage RM for the couple realms where I have Lightning using one of them instead.
Also a quick tip stolen from a Reddit post, if you don't have Garnet's second RM yet (which can only be acquired in FF9 realms), put her in your party for the early part of the event. It's not a super great one, but it is a requirement to have it before you can get her doublecast for summons.

Is Masamune good?
"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
Is Masamune the 4* katana? It can be useful if you can combine it to at least a + and definitely useful at ++. Some people that can use katanas can't use swords, after all (Yuffie I am looking straight at you).
Agreed that it'll be nice to have a second +20% sword dmg RM, and it'll be nice for newer players to be able to get that from a character that is generally useful rather than super niche.
There are more than one Masamune. Even within the same realm (VII has three different items that include "Masamune" in the name, though most of them haven't been released in global yet). Which soul break does it have, if any?
So regarding phase 2 of Evrae, should I be destroying any portals? The bottom two seem the worse (Stone and Silence). The other two I can just mitigate, but the bottom two really screw me if they land. Do I even have time to kill both?

I just killed all of them but yeah you can dispel/ignore them to save on hones; each one alive when you push into phase 3 means you take more damage on the transition though.

If you don't, they explode for 40% of max HP when Evrae dies. Evrae also explodes for 25% HP at the end of phase 2.
So yes, you need to destroy at least three. Unless you're doing some kind of well-timed shenanigans with magic blink to avoid an explosion. Even that would be dangerous though, since it'd block the 25%, meaning you're still taking 80%.
I had more than enough time to destroy the bottom one. My strat was to dispel #2 and raise #3 ASAP. That gave enough time to cast down #4, and then raise #2 after I was medica'd up again for refocusing on Evrae. #1 went completely ignored and I just charged a medica to immediately recover the 65% HP of damage the detonation of it and Evrae would inflict upon dying.

Wait. Crap. I forgot. Balthier's Supppet caps at 3 stars. He can't use any Breakdowns to add to my mitigation.
