I like BL2 well enough but Jack is the wooooooooorst and is on paper fairly well characterized as an insecure controlling techbro jerkface who is not funny (but thinks he is), and the game's story only really makes sense if that is his character, but then the entire marketing (and the game itself at times) just treats him as a wacky cool badguy who is hilarious, which makes that turn partway through the game into some SUPER TONAL WHIPLASH.
While that was a sick burn by Ryan, boy does Far Cry 3 not deserve any sort of praise for its writing outside of Vaas
Speed, Dubh and I recorded a Games Witticism a couple weeks ago (that I will be editing pretty soon) where I went on a rant about Rise of the Tomb Raider's story.
And then I later found out it won a Writer's Guild Award.
The other games that were nominated that it somehow beat?
Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Pillars of Eternity, and Witcher fucking 3.
And that's also when I realized that Rhianna Pratchett hasn't written a single thing I'd qualify as "good."
Maybe her comics are decent, I don't know.
But her games writing is all pretty mediocre or bad.
Err
As someone who disagrees and thinks the tomb raider games are pretty well written
Her comics work is worse
What's weird is I actually thought Tomb Raider was okay? Like, the narrative was whatever, but the characters were fun.
So I wasn't expecting to be wowed by Rise, but figured it'd at least entertain me.
And then Rise was like, "Hey, you remember all those characters you got to know in the previous game? Fuck all of them. Here's some generic ones instead."
The beginning of that game turned me off real hard and never fully got me back on board (except for the Baba Yaga DLC, which was so much better).

What pratchett did with Sam in those comics to write her out is terrible
That said
I actually suspect she was told she could not keep the characters from the first game.
Like, I get that the games nominated for WGAs have to be games that one of their members worked on. So we're not working with the entirety of games released in a particular year.
But even still, many of those are pretty dire.
EDIT: Oh wait, no, their submission guidelines say that writing done not under WGA jurisdiction can be submitted.

The Uncharted games have some decent writing!
But making characters likable and memorable takes good writing, too!
But even still, many of those are pretty dire.

I dont remember them enough to know
If so then carry on
Uncharted was scientifically ranked as better than a large portion of video games
Yeah, I like Uncharted 2 and 3 enough to think those wins are reasonable choices, even if I personally disagree with them.
