I guess I had forgotten how fast VI moves at a lightning pace. Might win the award for FF with the least amount of downtime.
One minute you're hijacking a suit of magitek armor in an imperial camp and ten minutes later you're in a magical forest suplexing a ghost train.
It also kind of makes you wonder how people even survived in a world like that, what with villagers taking one step out of town and then suddenly being assaulted by Deathbunny the Hope Ender (x3) in the "high level" areas.
Opening mission was kind of terrible and the combat and targeting feels kind of clunky. Writing, characters and VA seem like they might be pretty bad.
Really wanted to like this, hopefully it just takes awhile to get into it's groove.
I thought the same when I played on psp and never made it to a point where it improved
I liked everything about Type-0 except for playing it, if that makes sense. The world, the atmosphere, even the characters and story. I just didn't care for the overly segmented gameplay. That, and I fucking hate huge RPG casts where I'm only using a few characters.
It's what I've been saying before: it isn't enough to just insert the likenesses of FF characters into crossovers, you have to also insert their personalities and quirks to really appreciate their appearances.
For instance, I never played Echoes of Time, but Sherlotta is so rad in this game that I almost want to go check it out now.

To be honest, she doesn't feature as heavily as her inclusion in this would have you believe.

Do you have to use the stacking mechanic to win in WOFF?
Watched gameplay videos and I really prefer having a lil army of critters out on the ground more like pokemon or SMT rather than just goofily stacking them on my head.

Most enemies will be able to kill individual parts of a stack pretty easily.

You have to. Individually the stats of your characters and monsters are very low. Unstacking for any reason is extremely situational (and you by default, always start a battle stacked), and if you find yourself unstacked even normal mobs can one shot your characters (for this reason, phoenix downs are an AOE for a change).
So yeah, your pretty much going to always want to be stacked, and you're always going to be controlling only two characters. The game actually feels pretty balanced toward this, but if that sounds unappealing...

The only time I've found unstacking useful so far is when you have to hit an enemy with an effect it's weak to (like fire), but is defeated in one shot if you hit it while stacked.
Unstacked my group so Fritt could hit an Ice Bat with a fire spell, leaving it alive enough for me to Imprism it.
Unstacking is also good in the event you stumble into a really high level enemy(very easy to do in this game) and want additional chances to flee, as each individual unit can attempt to flee.
If they're gonna one shot you anyway, may as well make them need to one shot six of you while you try to run.

If you need to topple something, unstacking is a good option as six individual physical attacks add more damage to stability than two strong attacks
Also if you're about to topple over yourself a quick unstack/restack will restore your stability

So, yeah. There's lots of reasons to unstack. You just only want to be unstacked if one of them applies.
I also think you can generate AP faster unstacked if you're really low, as each character then gains 1 per turn and the stacked AP is the sum of individual.
Oh - an interesting trick is that summoning a Mega Mirage will clear some pesky things like Doom.
I can't deal with the consistent charm this game throws at me. It's so refreshing to play an FF with this much confidence in itself (besides FFXIV).
I'm having so much fun playing this - the cameos are just great.
Spoiler for characters around 14 hours in.
Tifa was amazingly cute, when she appeared, and her summon attack is amazing. And I just met Snow, and it's amazing how spot-on he is. I loved the comment how the brother had finally met someone he could talk down to.
so if you go in the secret area near the boss zone (you have to have Smash and Flutter to get there)
Its a much higher level zone (you should probably be around 14 or so to survive easier), so its a great spot to grind levels (25ish is easily attainable)
BUT the cool thing is that Bablizz, Zapt, and Fritt all are rare spawns here. so you can grab the other ones you missed from the boss fight! Im actually trying to get a couple of each, so I can keep a set in the smaller form for using their map abilities.

Yup...took me a good 3 hours I think to get them both...
I had the worst luck, but I'm leveled like crazy now and was playing Civ VI with friends at the time so it was manageable.

So yesterday I decided it was finally time to check out the coliseum. My two main characters are both level 16. I've been putting it off for a while, instead just concentrating on the story.
I went into the coliseum, cleared the 3 Day 1 DLC missions and captured my Glowing Mog, Santa Tonberry, and White Chocochick. Then I loaded up the first real mission at the top of the list.
When I loaded into the top mission, which I think was called "Final Fantasy Mascots 1" it instead put me into a little cutscene with Ifrit and Shiva.
I immediately did a turn 1 Libra on Ifrit, to see if he was capturable. He was, and his prismtunity condition was to hit him with Fire. So I did. Then I immediately caught him on my first attempt.
Then Shiva killed me. Which was fine, because I didn't have a mirage with an Ice attack in my party at the time because I wasn't expecting to bump into her.
So I went to my mirage case, pulled out a mirage with ice, reconfigured my stacks, and went back into the coliseum.
When I checked the listing, that Ifrit/Shiva battle is listed as level 40. Remember -- I'm only 16.
It takes me a few attempts because the mobs are level 40 and hit like a truck. But I eventually captured both.
So now I've got both Ifrit and Shiva, which is pretty cool. I'm assuming I'm not supposed to have them this early?

This might be the biggest of reasons I didn't pick the game up.
I just can't bring myself to having creatures awkwardly stacked on a characters head.
Stacking is the core mechanic of the entire game. I personally think it's great because it offers some interesting strategic depth to the game. You have to build and adapt your stacks to the enemies you're fighting. It's actually a pretty great system.

As someone had pointed out in another forum, it's refreshing how WoFF has quests exclusively featuring female characters. It's doubly neat how they set up crossover relationships with certain characters and making them feel organic in a way most crossover games don't.
It makes me want to push the idea of an all-female FF crossover even more.

Yea it's just visually unappealing to me.
Looks really dumb and aesthetics are extremely important to my ability to enjoy a game. The chibi characters don't help with this aspect either.

I KNOW I WAS MAKING A JOKE
Heal it a couple times, then imprism. If you satisfy the condition multiple times, it makes catching them easier.

I always feel like VI has some of the biggest pacing fuck ups, especially early on with the 3 party thing. It just kills the momentum for hours.

I've been dismissing extra monsters from the same school, since they can change forms into each type anyway.

I adore the game for running with that concept all the way, to which NPCs will have pets, pots and food stacked on their heads.
