I'm finally making progress on the ladder by altering Loyans shaman deck into something more Crusher like.
Removing some of the early aggro drops, adding some fat in the form of elementals.
Sadly Earth Elemental is suicide in this meta (since prime C'thun counters work just fine on Crusher. As does a whole range of other stall gear, like Sap). So it's all about his cheaper/more flexible brethren.
P.S: Thing from Below is amaaaazing.
I'm finally making progress by playing a deck with absolutely no cards from Whispers. Which seems counterintuitive. I mean...they're very good cards. I would easily play a straight Whispers deck over straight GvG. That'd be a fun tournament, by the way.
Ganged up Nate the dark fishers won me a game this morning after I accidentally milled my only remaining coldlight, gradually getting the hang of how a mill deck plays but it seems >50% win rate isn't going to happen even at the foot of the ladder.
I can't find and consistency with priest. Had a solid N'zoth deck that won 5 or 6 in a row, then promptly lost 6 or 7 in a row. C'thun feels like other classes do it better. Especially C'thun warrior, it seems like we both build this big bomb, only my opponent is also hard at work building a fallout shelter. Druids completely overload priest removal with creature after creature with massive health. I dunno, seems to me that we lost way more than we gained. Testicles for Arms Power Word: Testicles is funny to misspell, but it's a poor substitute for Velen's Chosen. Light bomb is sorely missed.
Everything right now feels like a gimmick and ladder would probably be easier with just about any other class.
I thought Xaril was cool at first, but he keeps giving me two shadowsteps, and I don't even want one of those, or two of the draw a cards when I'm already in fatigue. It's kind of frustrating.
Shadow steps are great if your playing Deathrattle. that plus one coin will let you recall N'zaoh...possibly multiple times and since tomb pillager is a great card for deathrattle rogue, (even cutpurse is a nice one for that deck if huckster wasnt so great (*BUY ONE*). I started my Rattle deck with both and i literally was milling myself due to multiple coins and poisons in my hand. I had to cut it down.

Nzoth priest I felt like I had to run every aoe I could, nova/evil/soul priest circle to make it to the end game, stronger taunts are missed and the early game is rough.

So I am pretty happy w/ Generation 2 Patron and didn't have to throw much dust at it.
I do, however, want to make use of the N'Zoth and Deathwing I opened. Or just try other things.
Unfortunately I only have 2 legendaries worth of dust. So far it looks like Sylvanas is core to N'Zoth for anyone, with Cairne a strong second. I could probably try a Dragon deck instead; is there a representative Priest or Paladin one now?
Hum. Question. Should a change be made that does not let your opponent see what cards are milled?
Seems that for instance, knowing a rogue had his N'zoh milled when hes obviously using a deathrattle deck gives an unfair advantage to the person they are playing against. The game isnt quite poker but bluffing your opponent still is a valid strategy and has caused people to conceed early.

Sell me on something, thread.
Sylvanas, while useful is not what i would call necessary for a rogue rattle deck. tomb pillagers, Cairne, Shadowcasters to make more Cairnes, Xaril, and the new corrupted tauren so you have at least one taunt on the board are enough really...you want to end up with a mostly full board of 4/x and 5/x minions and the ability to do it all again the next turn if need be.
Oh god of hearthstone...I've recently ranked up using the op shaman mid range deck...I feel like I've done wrong... give me a sign if I should change my ways... *today's quest is win 5 games with shaman*.
Okay thanks God I feel much better!
Man winning even at rank 25 with half of the starter deck is downright challenging. Be nice to finally get everybody up to level 10. Although the get 2 wins with... Quests are making me vary my selection nicely.

A few months ago I spent a couple hours with my brother-in-law teaching him how to play. He didn't really have a collection, but we put together some custom decks that were a lot stronger than the starter decks and he picked up a lot of wins. We definitely ran into some folks with legendaries, but most of it he could deal with. I only remember one deck that really overwhelmed him; everything else was pretty much on the quality level of his deck as well.
I think it's probably hard for you at the higher ranks because you're a new player and you are still learning what to do in a given situation. Hell, every one of us is always learning because every turn is different. But if you stick with it, once you build up enough knowledge and the ability to make custom decks for the classes you want, getting to R20 will be a breeze.

The key to this brawl is to play either Shaman (Feral Spirits) or Rogue (hero power is by far the best for clearing 1/1s, can get Journey Below to find minions). Rogue can also randomly get Edwin van Cleef, it happened to me last night, and he fucking runs the show if you are lucky enough to get him.

Still in the win/lose phase around rank 9. So frustrating when I'm just about to hit a streak only to lose.
I was stuck at 9 for almost an entire day (I was home sick playing). It genuinely took me about 9 hours to break into 8. I don't know why, but 9 is a total clusterfuck right now.

This is very likely it. I haven't customized anything mostly because I don't really have a good grasp on what's possible. I do know my biggest problem, as I posted earlier, is that I run out of cards too fast if I go first.
I'm still mostly F2P aside from buying adventures, so building the meta decks is kind of out of my reach. But I can win games with Shaman and Warrior pretty easily. Rogue is probably my third best right now. Haven't played Paladin, Warlock or Mage since Whispers came out. Didn't have much luck with Druid and I think my brief attempt at Hunter lost every single game. Also am struggling to win anything with Priest, which sucks because I feel like that was a really strong class before even with basic and low level cards.
Hey, did they ever fix that dumb bug where the cosmetic heroes lost their glowing, animated hero power at 500 wins? I kinda want to buy Magni because I've been playing so much Pirate Warrior, but I'm almost to 500 wins and I don't want to be buying a gimpy, weird Magni.
does the pity time really get reset if you switch up the types of packs you buy? or does no one really know? just wondering.
I believe it doesn't get reset, but you have a different time for each type of pack. So you can open 39 TGT packs, not get a Legendary, but that doesn't mean your next WOG pack will have a Legendary. You may have to go through 40 of those to get your first WOG Legendary, but then you can buy 1 TGT pack and get a Legendary too.
Today I got a win 5 with pala quest so I decided to use an old pala deck which I couldn't remember the contents of.
It seemed decent enough until I suddenly drew classic Deathwing. It had no business being in this deck and I couldn't believe that I at any point in time had decided to put it in the deck. So I lost faith in the match (was slowly losing ground against a control warrior) and decided to just go for broke and play it on turn 10 to clear the board. The warrior had no response and I won the match after hitting his face 3 times with it.
Next match was against a strange c'thun mage who after a long game finally played c'thun and cleared my board. Deathwing slew the god and won me the game.
Finally I had a match against a handlock who at 4 HP flooded the board and gave 2 giants taunt. I then went on to draw... you guessed it... Deathwing. It cleared the taunts allowing me to end the game with my equipped truesilver weapon.
I think I'm going to let Deathwing stay in this deck.
So looking through these decks on that manacrystals site and I have a dumb question. How do you get these cards I've never seen? Crafting? Side dungeons? Card packs? I'm not really sure where or how you can best create these decks. Do folks just start making one, then the next, and so on as the urge hits?

There are "Adventures" you can buy that you play through and earn cards as you beat bosses. The current Adventures that are in "Standard" are Blackrock Mountain and League of Explorers. Other cards come from different "Pack" sets. Classic, The Grand Tournament, Old Gods are the current "Standard" format packs (I believe). Here is an article about Standard: http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Standard_format

Ok. Yea I saw Naxx referred to in the newbie OP guide and I see that nowhere. Apparently I have the standard blizzard task of dis enchanting a card to get dust to create "some" card that will then make it show up for me? The things I've found to read about where it went aren't really specific on that point.

If you don't have the first wing of Naxx, you cannot get it at all anymore, if I recall. And all the cards will be available in the 'crafting' mode in the collection, but only if you're in the wild view, since Naxx cards are not valid for standard.
Dear everyone: Check for Lethal. I just missed lethal two turns in a row. (I still won the game) I was so focused on Board Control and making smart usage of my mana that I didn't check for Lethal at all.

You know what's even worse than missing lethal? Emoting "Well-played" when your opponent has it on the board, seeing the long pause and then the focus move between their minions, and realizing that they were going to miss it until you brought it to their attention.

Anyone watch the "Enter the Battlefield" MtG documentary on Netflix?
I kinda did not realize how obsessed some of these pros/semi-pros are. I haven't played MtG since the early 90's so it was a bit shocking. Also a bit shocking to realize how old Magic is now.
