No alcohol at the con!!??

FunnelKing27FunnelKing27 Registered User regular
So this year the bar...yes the bar, is not selling any alcohol. They have served alcohol every year. What is up with this? I am very disappointed by this and the lack of communication about it. I meet great people at the con bar every year. Smh.

There are bars at the Westin, and the Aloft hotel.

Yes but that means you have to exit the con and go throught the bag check and metal detectors again. Major inconvenience.

    True. But it's an option.

I am on that option haha. Over at Laugh right now.
It just boggled my mind for a second but i got over that quick. Still curious as to why they arent serving it this year. Hope they go back to it next year. Although i have to say, getting a drink at Laugh was 100x faster than the con bar. Not as many gamers in here yet though.

Is laugh open to the public, or are they only letting people in with Game Over tickets?

Was open to the public. There was a miscommunication. It cost $20 to enter

The lack of alcohol is bullshit. They even stopped giving free drinks to developers and exhibitors after the show for Saturday and Sunday. The Official PAX website STILL says alcohol is allowed on the premises in designated areas (presumably the bars on-site as in years past), and no explanation or justification has been given. It's absurd. If I'm going to run around on my feet all day helping to make the PAX show a success I would at least like to purchase a beer for my own personal enjoyment. If this is the way PAX is going to be I may not exhibit again, the lack of communication is unacceptable.

Strongly disagree with this decision as well. That bar was always packed for a reason, it was a nice way to relax for a bit in the evening for me in between panels and such.

If minors getting access to alcohol was the problem...quite frankly with how much money that bar was printing with PAXers buying beer you could pay for a half-dozen cops to watch over everyone and still be making money off the bar.

I heard a rumor that someone threw up in the main hall last year. That might explain it.

Happily on Sabbatical. Don't bug me.

Something tells me it's not a pax decision, but a bcec decision. Also if your day is so interrupted by not having booze you might want to check out the other local establishments.

    Geth, close this thread.
