Sadly the follow up, the Hail Hydra miniseries from Secret Wars, is pretty bad and also the most laughably DARK AND DEPRESSING Remender thing to the point that it feels like a parody.
Ian survived the destruction of the Infinite Elevator which allowed him to survive the collapse of reality and make it out onto Battleworld, where he found himself in a region where Hydra has controlled the USA for centuries and Steve and Sharon run a ragtag, tiny, resistance against Strucker and Zola. They all get killed because Ian led Hydra to their base, with Steve and Sharon's daughter being the only survivor.

It ends with Steve and Sharon's daughter, who is quickly bleeding out and dying, and Ian trying to escape the pursuing Hydra forces by fleeing to the Infinite Elevator but Strucker is, seemingly, able to destroy it before the doors shut, killing them both.

The final scene is Hydra sifting through the rubble trying to find the bodies and it ends on a black panel that just says FUTILITY in big white letters.

I covered it with blankets and cardboard in what I am sure will be a futile effort

(I am used to, but still terrified of, tornados so I have my go bag in the car and only have to load up the cats in the carrier if shit is heading out way.)

If there's even a one percent chance that hail damage isn't covered, you have to take it as an absolute certainty!

The local mall doesn't have covered parking, only covered areas are the already full to bursting on normal days garages on the nearby college campus

It's cool, I've been through this a billion times, I have lived in Oklahoma my whole life.

To make this topical, I packed my go bag yesterday and had to decide what handful of things I wanted to take with me if my place gets eaten by the sky

I packed my Immortal Iron Fist omnibus

Also essentials and important documents and clothes

    But IIF

Everyone wants different things, is the problem.

The only solution is to literally give them everything. Although I'm sure someone would be upset at that, instead of them being something specific.

The solution probably would have involved some combination of rewriting his origin entirely and not casting a white actor as either Strange or the Ancient One

His whole thing is rather too mired in that fad for Oriental mysticism

There is no way to cast a Dr. Strange movie without somebody getting upset

Dr. Strange and Iron Fist are pretty lose-lose properties, I think

It's just a minefield of appropriation and sterotypes
