Confirmation of this movies appeal. Saw it last week with my wife, who isn't a comics fan. She just texted me to ask if I wanted to go see it again tonight.

Just got back. Phenomenal. The mid movie fight scene was the best to date.

Everything about it leaves me wanting more.

Someone lost an arm, the tradition continues.

    oh no, wait
Rocket can't convince the Avengers he needs Bucky's arm now
Assuming his brain gets fixed in time for Infinity War (could they just hypnotise him to not recognise Russian words or something?), Bucky's going to be in need of a new arm, and living in the most technologically advanced country in the world, which has the only source of vibranium on the planet.
Rocket will be able to want his arm for a plan, and have some very legit reasons for it.

Whelp, I was worried about a number of things that they said were in this movie and Marvel once again smiled like a kindly uncle, patted me on the head and told me to just watch it and everything would be alright.

    They were right.

As a shameless Spidey fanboy, it was fun to see everyone else geek out of him.

I wouldn't have minded a slightly more upbeat ending, but that was everything I needed out of that movie and was excited to see from the moment it was announced.

    Things that made no sense

    1. Finding out how starks parents died was a late discovery right? I guess hydra could have 'documents' detailing the hit? Directly interviewing Bucky for that debriefing was to make sure it was him who killed starks parents? Why did he need said confirmation if he knew exactly what to ask for?

    2. Were assuming this guy is a poor eastern european man from a country that was 'dead before the avengers got there'. I'm pretty good with everything that happened, but how does he get a giant EMP bomb? Or the face swap tech?

    3. Why the fuck were there cameras there?

    3. If Bucky's side placed them for confirmation of the hit, why did he shoot them out?

    4. If they weren't their cameras, why would Bucky leave the tapes existing, confirming the existence of the winter soldier?
4a.Who the fuck tapes the middle of the woods with a color camera in 1991. I guess it could have been still o nstarks property and that was the security... but yeah no.

    5. So that entire ending plan depended on bucky not shooting the tv or cap smashing it before Tony could see it. *smash* "ill tell you later" *run 5 feet, arrest bad guy* It's just one of those movie/tv misunderstanding tropes that I hate.

I really liked it overall. I think some of the known stuff would have been great surprises and wouldn't have caused the hype train to not be what it was.
    1. No, Zemo knew. He specifically kept asking people about that exact date. He knew exactly what he was looking for.

    2. He makes the bomb, and it wasn't face swap tech, it was makeup, prosthetics and a wig as they said in the movie. He was part of a death squad in a failed state, he was probably closer to a terrorist than to a soldier by that point.

    3. Camera wasn't set up by Hydra, which is the whole point of them showing Bucky shooting them. It was just coincidence that there were cameras there at all, and Bucky's mission was "no witnesses" so he brought back the tapes. It was 1991 not 1960, the idea that there are security cameras somewhere that capture an event shouldn't be seen as a plot hole or making no sense.

    4. Bucky's mission was "no witnesses", you bring back to tapes as confirmation that there were no witnesses.

    5. If the tapes didn't exist it seems likely that Zemo either would have done something else or would have left the very clearly documented missions for Tony to see.

However the crux of the entire story is that Zemo knew the events of that night, so he went looking for them. He specifically asked the previous Hydra guy about the mission reports from that night, and he specifically asks Bucky about that night. When he's given the information he goes to the place where the proof is kept and finds the tapes. That isn't a plot hole or something that "doesn't make sense" any more than "guy meets girl" is a plot hole for every romantic comedy ever.
Yes, if something else had happened, then something else would have happened.
That's not something incongruous, that's called basic storytelling.
    Re point 5
Tony also immediately suspected what was coming as soon as the tape started and he saw the timestamp. Bucky suddenly destroying the tape and saying "nothing to see here" isn't going to make things any better.

So there was a really funny, subtle joke that I noticed while watching the movie, and I made a mental note to ask my friends at the end of the movie if they caught it.

But then I got distracted by the awesome movie and forgot what it was. :(

    I remembered what it was!
It wasn't actually a real joke. Or rather it was a joke, but it was funny to me (and my friends) for a different reason than intended in the movie.

I'm guessing Zemo is going to register a lot of mixed responses but I actually was pleasantly surprised by him.
He was just an ordinary man with a family that got caught in the crossfires.

He had no grand plan to destroy or take over the world, no super powers or secret weapon, he was just one guy that saw the Avengers as the target of his grief.

Theres never been a villain quite like him in the MCU. Could have gone with a different name though, this isn't Baron Zemo.

It probably would have been cooler since

If Zemo had a different name and was presented as a nobody at the start then the audience would have immediately assumed that he was secretly a big name. Only the twist is that he really isn't.

    My Review of Captain America:

If, if you're gonna see this movie on opening day, then you'll probably want to get there an hour early. You'll be tempted to get your popcorn and beverage at this time as well, which is fine.

but dont, dont uh dont drink ur entire beverage (along with the earlier alcohol you had) the entire time waiting for the movie to start only to realize, just as the last trailer ends that you really need to go to the bathroom

because you're gonna be in the middle of a row and decide that uh, no that's too much effort and the movie is starting now

so instead ur gonna hold your pee in the whole time and pretty much spend about uhhhhhhhhhhh 30% of your mental facalties towards holding that in

probably makes watching this movie kinda hard, or slightly less enjoyable

also Paul Rudd was very funny

This movie was further proof that Fox and WB/DC just dont understand how to make comic book stories work. This was easily (in my opinion) the best, most solid comic book movie yet. I dont know how the Russo's do it, but god willing they keep it up.

Those were all great but no it was
Tony's Mom: Go easy on him, he's been studying abroad.
Tony's Dad: What was the the broad's name?
    Tony: Candace.

Pretty good pun, but the reason it was especially funny to me, was because 2 of the people I was seeing it with are in my tabletop group. One of them is playing a character that is basically a womanizing noir detective.
There was a running gag from our first few sessions where basically any woman (or "broad" since he was doing a noir shtick) he would ask he she was Candace, because he was looking for her.
Then eventually he found a woman named Candace at a party, who turned out to have hired by a group of women he'd wronged to take him out, and woke up naked in shipping crate on a ship heading out of system.

We gave him no end of shit for that. Especially funny because after we made it back in system we ended up finding her and having to ally with her out of necessity.

    Watched it.
I loved it, but i am pretty dissapointed that no one died. I was sure that Captain would bite it, and be ressurected during Infinity War.

Ant-Man stoles the movie, with Sam - Bucky taking a close second place.

Zemo was great villain, but he had almost nothing in common with comics Zemo.

Do you guys think there will be Thunderbolts movie? Death of Winter Soldiers kinda hints at the opposite (because they would fit perfectly for Thunderbolts), but who knows, maybe it's a double-subversion?

I really hope there will be some day but not sure how soon it will get made since Marvel will probably try to avoid any similarities being made to Suicide Squad (even though they shouldn't care).

This Zemo could very easily embody the Thunderbolts mission statement of villians into heroes. He's interesting enough that I would be up for seeing what they could do with him in an ensemble film.

Should also note that while this Zemo is physically just a totally run of the mill guy he is apparently a logistic/strategic/tactical genius. Comic Zemo is pretty far on the wrong side of the comic booky spectrum but over a series of movies I could see this Zemo becoming closer and closer to comic version albeit with a very different history.
