The promo is not meant for people who are currently playing WoW. If you're judging it by that standard, then that error is yours, not Blizzard's.
The promo is great for people who have never played WoW. It lets them get into it with just a single month's sub cost without a big upfront cost.
And again, if you don't like the promotion, don't take it up. If you don't take it up, it's like there's no promotion at all, which is pretty much what all movies do already. I kind of feel like you're more upset about the free stuff not being to your liking than you would have been if the free stuff had never been there at all.
It's so that he can have an arc. He's been brought low so that when Sylvanas goes all purple dispenser-y he can make his triumphant return as the warchief of the Horde.

EDIT: I seriously doubt Sylvanas is going to become a villain. People have been chanting that line since Cataclysm and it's only become less true since then. She's definitely no saint, but there's no reason why she would turn against the Horde or go after the Alliance in earnest.
I just really don't like the idea of Thrall getting to be Warchief again after screwing up. "Resets" aka forcing the plot to restore the status quo are lame on Marvel/DC and are also lame in here.

I'm so done with Thrall. So done. The last straw was him being a complete shit failure of a shaman. He can't summon the elements to fight Garrosh in SoO? Well guess what thrall: I'm a shaman and I managed to do it just fine. The last straw was him KSing me in Nagrand. Fuck you Thrall, you lost your chance to fight Garrosh. I already cleaned up your mess once before and the only reason why I have to do it again is because you were too much of a pansy to 'let' me do it properly.

Why did my blood elf priest get a better mind flay at 92 when my Draenei priest got the 5 orbs at the same level?
The Draenor perks are randomized at levels 92, 94, 96 and 98 (and 100? I forget). You'll get them all, but you might have to suffer with bad ones until higher levels if you get unlucky.
I liked Thrall at the start but then when he went SSJHADOKEN Shaman in Cataclysm to the point where even the ancient dragon aspects were tripping over their own dicks to heap praise after praise on him to the idiocy that is Warlords to nagrand to the cliffnote of "Thrall will continue to evolve in legion." Comment he's just a terrible overdone character that needs to lose his plot armor badly.
As for Sylvanas i hate her because she has the worst possible trait the one trait i can't stand in a character in that she's IMPLIED to have such massive tactical genius such a cunning devious mind which is only implied you can say she's such all you want but when her only actions in story are pretty much "SHOOT ALL TEH PLAGUE AT IT." It rings hollow as heck
The people who are going to see that movie are the ones who already own the fucking game. I expected a pet or something for seeing the film, but they managed to stoop real low this time and just try to turn people into missionaries for WoW. I'm guessing sub numbers have sunk real low and they can't afford to give away game time. The promo is useless for like 90% of the people seeing the film.
Now, the promo might have made sense if it included all the expansions so long-lapsed players can catch up, but they just added WoD to the base game so even if you stopped playing in 2005 there's absolutely no benefit to this promo.
EDIT: also the base game is twenty bucks now, so it's clear they make more money off subs and the in-game shop than anything else. They want new blood, but I think it'd behoove them to encourage lapsed subs to come back and buy Legion.

Thrall doesn't even need to lose his plot armor, honestly. He just needs to do the one thing Blizzard is absolutely allergic to: take it down a notch. Here's how you fix Thrall. Have him do something, and make it not be the most Momentous Shit Of Your Life. It can be good, it can be bad, it doesn't matter! It just needs to not be EPIC TO THE MAX because it's Thrall.
Similarly, you don't need fucking super space angels arbitrarily crowning you the coolest dude ever to do an Illidan redemption arc. Just...have him do something selfless! Fuck! It's that simple, Illidan's whole thing is he fucked up a long time ago, and has continued to fuck up because while he's broadly speaking trying to do the right thing and make up for past mistakes, his own self interest derails these attempts over and over. All a good redemption arc needs is him to not do that.
Blizzard's inability to take it down a notch, ever, is the bane of their story telling.
Very true and it boils down into why people are angry that Thrall is being brought to a low point because we know better the only reason he's going to hit a low is so Metzen can raise him back up twice as high.

Though in the Alliance side of Shadowmoon on WOD he actually just uses scythes (he literally picks up some farmers tools and starts killing people with them, then decides he likes them so he keeps them.)
