See, if they were smart, they'd schedule MPP on the days they know Dan will be out of the office. Wrestling shows, trips out of town, etc.

Then if he has to leave or not make it, MPP is cancelled. They lost their chance.

they didn't take a break halfway through, so it's one massive file instead of two more manageable files

There's always a version posted to the site eventually, unless the stream says "not going to be archived" when they broadcast it,or the recording broke horribly, but that is really rare.

Picked up Trackmania Turbo for PS4 on Tuesday and started playing it today

    Man

I can totally see why Jeff is into this series, and I'm really glad he made me aware of it

I hate the handling in nearly every non-Burnout racing game (even the Criterion NSF games handle way too heavily for me), but Trackmania feels juuuuuuuuust right

I still have an hour left, but this one has been really rough. 4 and 5 were pretty exciting since all manner of goofy shit happened at the end of them that made them exciting.

Whoever told Dan to pick this map trolled GB hard, because it is awful.

Finished mario party party 6 mostly to say I did. That was a nightmare and the map/game was so horrible that the guys weren't even funny for the last 2.5 hours.

And yet people keep asking for it.

It's the perfect indictment of the bizarre cross section of the audience who enjoys "hate watching" and "people streaming bad video games".

If I could, I'd allocate my premium sub for them to NOT do MPP anymore, and in fact bring back long lost features or start new ones with the time and resources they waste with MPP.

MPP6 was bad for two reasons.

    1. Dan got a huge lead halfway through and nobody came close to toppling it, so it was basically over halfway.
    2. It was a very bad choice of map. Made getting and keeping stars really annoying.

Oh yeah, I guess it being nearly five hours long didn't help.

A good game is good, so that's good. A bad game can be made fun of, you get the catharsis of venting, and you get a sense of camaraderie with the other people experiencing it as you mock this piece of trash together. Also with the other Marios Maker they could team up against Dan with him being the self-appointed representative of this terrible game they are experiencing.

That Mario Maker level wasn't good or bad. It was boring. There was nothing for them to do or react to, and it even defeated Dan.

  • reVersereVerse Attack and Dethrone God Registered User regular
I'm going to agree that they chose a terrible map and that brought the whole thing down.

It's just that the impetus for MPP is inherently flawed, because video features back in the day used to be things the staff guys wanted to do but maybe weren't really germane to the daily operation of the site. Playing games they like, or older games, etc. Even the bad games they played had a sort of "interesting" quality to them.

And yet MPP is a massive time hog that, while not actually "resource intensive" in that it's just people sitting on a couch for several hours with cameras pointed at them, nobody on staff seems to like or really want to do it. Even Dan only really likes it because it makes everyone else feel bad, which makes it an inherently mean spirited feature.

And it's a crapshoot on whether they end up even interesting to watch. Even the original thesis on whether or not MPP is a "game of skill" has fallen by the wayside after it was proven like, several episodes ago that it was not.

Giant Bomb was founded on the idea that you're gonna see the games that these guys actually care about and not another review factory churning out content just to do it.

They seem to mess around with random games over on GBEast, and sometimes it's open world stuff.

Vinny did say he wanted to bring back LOLS with Ninja Gaiden, though.

generally speaking, most of the crew are actually having fun while doing a Mario Party Party, despite what they play up for the camera

at times, Mario Party is even able to overcome that, but a lot of people seem to think they're more miserable than they are

If you actually think they don't want to do it, I don't know what to tell you except "it's a funny gag"

6 was the first one in the entire series that seemed like a brutal slog, and I think a huge percentage of that was the map. Generally I think they hate the game, but enjoy doing the event.

I like the staff. I like to watch them have fun

They are not having fun. I know you people assume it's all "a work", or whatever, but Jeff gets pissed on his Mixlr streams about it. Complaining that human lives were likely adversely affected by the production of that franchise.

Maybe I'm the weirdo here for wanting to see them enjoy themselves instead of "pretend to not enjoy themselves", as you people seem to assume.

Like yeah, they probably aren't being hurt or put in actual tangible pain, but if I had the choice I'd certainly want them to play a game they like rather than a game they dislike.

Unrelated, Jeff posted a bit on his Tumblr on how the live streamed video Bombcasts are going to work. Basically they're gonna start recording on Tuesday mornings, and stream it out as they record. This apparently means everyone listening live, including the staff, will be hearing the ad reads and the breaks will be in real time and thus longer.

Yes that sounds like a super serious thing that a grown man of Jeff Gerstmann's maturity would say and not a tongue-in-cheek exaggeration that known dry comedian Jeff Gerstmann would say.

The only way any lives are adversely affected by Mario Party is if a stranger had a family member at gunpoint and said "beat me in a game of Mario Party and I let them live" and then you lost at Mario Party

MPP6 would have been a much better experience had one of them taken 15 minutes beforehand to read a FAQ or poked through the different maps first. That map was awful and it really dragged the dynamic down.

    Someone trolled them hard.

@cooljammer00 You seem to be taking a lot of jokey things about MPP as super serious face value.
I also don't really think one afternoon every few months is the massive time commitment you're making it out to be.
It's just that the impetus for MPP is inherently flawed
A lot of people really enjoy the feature (and the guys themselves are playing up "not wanting to play it" as a gag), so it seems like you're being a bit silly here.
Even the original thesis on whether or not MPP is a "game of skill" has fallen by the wayside after it was proven like, several episodes ago that it was not.
