Rebel Galaxy's music was great and fit the game pretty well for me. I do consider that type of soundtrack to be a different thing (from, say, Assassin's Creed) in that none of those songs were made specifically for the game.
As someone who finished Rebel Galaxy, my biggest gripe with it is the number of ambushes that the game throws at you. They were not always dangerous, just time consuming if you fought it out. I think I spent at least a quarter of that game on afterburners just to get away from space pirates.

Twangy guitar bullshit is the exact soundtrack necessary for space trucking
Yeah, I think it's less that Rebel Galaxy had an amazing soundtrack, and more that it has the perfect soundtrack for what it is.

I'm pretty sure Giant Bomb had that exact argument last year, come to think of it :P
I wouldn't disagree though
XCOM 2's was alright, though I feel it was a couple of steps down from the really strong driving themes that Michael McCann put out.
That said, Michael McCann had a really, really good year that year so I can't be too harsh
ed: oh shit, I completely forgot about Mankind Divided!
I like this one(among others) from xcom2 but it's weird because the ost version is not the version that plays in the game, the one you hear on missions is a bit different https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5jcWN8EpP8
All of my game soundtrack nostalgia is rooted in the Chrono series, Trigger especially. I can't think of a single game since then that's really connected with me musically like those games did.

It was twangy guitar bullshit and the fact that the consoles didn't have the custom music functionality (despite this being a thing on consoles, I can do it in my baseball game for Christ's sake) killed my interest quickly

you must just be doing this on purpose now?
I mean it's not the only thing that soured me on it
I'd heard it compared to Black Flag's combat but it's not even close, mainly because without the excitement and unpredictability of fighting on waves, that combat model turns out to actually be really flat and boring
But yeah not being able to put in my own music on consoles was definitely a huge bummer
they really should have stopped the series after that, because MPP5 is just perfect. the crowd is really good, and the way the game flows couldn't be better if you wrote a script. I already knew what was going to happen and it still made me laugh my ass off all over again.
Sweet, PC version of Titanfall 2 is 30% off on Origin. Time to see what the hype is about.
Believe you can also apply the code 'TITAN20' on checkout to reduce the price further.
Fuck.
Can I get a refund?
EDIT: Ugh, I'm legit mad now.
EDIT: Gonna try and get a refund, but the refund screen seems hung up. Why do I get the feeling once I get this sorted I'm going to miss the sale entirely.

The Mario Party Party series was never about being a good show, which was ultimately its beauty and its tragedy.
MPP5 was the pinnacle, yeah. It's too bad they never did another live show. I'm guessing they would've if not for the urgency of Dan's move.
Dooms ending credits were also lovely from a "holy shit the character models are so gorgeous" perspective. The photo mode in that game is nuts, the Revenant is fucking gorgeous

man just to go back to game music being awesome, I forgot how much I liked Mafia 1's music until I caught myself humming the tune in the shower this morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI84kUhm3mw
also while it wasn't technically released in 2015 the remastered divinity: original sin has a really great soundtrack
That little stinger that plays when it goes into combat is fantastic.
not to downplay the battle music(it's great) but the town music was so good. walking around cyseal was such a treat
oh and that doom clip made me think of another game that would explode into screaming death metal at excellent times to have screaming death metal playing: DmC
The closer we get to GOTY, the more DOOM and Overwatch are just tied for first with me (my personal list).
DOOM has the campaign, Overwatch has the multiplayer, both have ridiculously brilliant sound design, both have pitch perfect gameplay mechanics, both have tons of replayability, both have small flaws that are overshadowed by the overall greatness (DOOM's underwhelming multiplayer, Overwatch's divisive loot box system).

Overwatch is definitely a top 10 game but it is definitely not a GOTY contender, I think. As a value proposition of content for a consumer it's probably not that great, especially compared to some of the other potentials - even if the core gameplay itself is amazing.

I don't think GB has ever made a decision based on value proposition of content for a consumer.
But I agree it won't be near the top of their list. It hit well and has a good hold on a few of them, but not the penetration or excitement it takes to make it up.
I think a number of them all like Overwatch, but do you think any one of them has played a ranked game? All ten placement games? Trying not to take some kind of try-hard stance to this or anything, but while they all may have played a lot of Overwatch, I doubt they really digged deep into Overwatch in a way that is much easier to dip deep into Doom or games of other genres.
i don't think its cartoonyness is what turned jeff away, jeff spent a decent amount of time enjoying it, and even talked about how it brought out a support playstyle in him that he doesn't usually play in shooters. what turned jeff away was 1) people demanding any sort of meta, because he hates that and 2) that the game flow was not what he was looking for. when you look at the shooters that have really grabbed jeff by the shoulders they're games like Titanfall, games like syndicate, very fast and mobile shooters where the idea of agility is ingrained in all characters, not just "Oh Tracer's the fast one".

That piece is a TV-show-ass opening and I love it

I don't know what do you mean...
I know the gameplay was mediocre, but Eternal Sonata's soundtrack was brilliant. I still remember it pretty vividly.

Overwatch will probably hit #4 or #5 on the GB list.
It's too cartoony for Jeff, I doubt Brad really touched it at all, Vinny likes it but didn't seem like something he would go to bat for
I have no idea what Drew thinks of it
Doom impressed the shit out of everyone, even in the MP was lacking.
Jeff is crazy about Titanfall 2 and everyone else who's played the campaign seems to have liked it.
Dan and Brad are ass deep into Hitman, and Jeff and Vinny both liked what they played of it.
Light a fire under them to make the right decision
