Getting two targets down is enough of a hassle, being discovered and unable to get myself out because the combat is shit and having to redo the entire mission makes me just want to put the game down and never look back

The game autosaves every 5 minutes, and you can manual save at any time from the pause menu.
Example: in the first mission, the opportunity to disguise yourself as Helmet Kruger. When you're doing it for the first time naturally, after you see him make his phone call and you subdue him and don the disguise, that objective switches to "call Margolis," which you do using his cell phone. But you can actually sequence break this opportunity if you dispose of him before he makes the phone call - the objective still says "call Margolis," but he won't have dropped the cell phone for you to do so. That's just really bad design.

Huh! You'd think they'd surface that better. Most games would hit you with the first option being "restart from checkpoint" or language similar to that. Here it's Replay and Replan Mission

Opinions are opinions. A lot of us think Hitman is pretty great and have enjoyed it immensely. Somehow I doubt we're all just idiots who don't understand good game design. Sometimes a game just isn't for everyone.
Been playing a bunch of Titanfall since I got it on the PSN sale.
It's a very good game! But even with the "press L1 to XXX" moments, I still don't think it outdoes Doom. The multiplayer is solid and fun, but it's still that kind of (at this point) by-the-numbers level up and unlock and prestige, rinse, repeat. Jeff might fight for it for a number two spot, but I doubt he'll really push for number one.
Oh dammit, Austin has been tweeting about how amazing the ending sequence of Mafia 3 is. I was interested in that game before it came out, but then word of mouth was fairly tepid. But when Austin is saying it's probably a better sequence than the ending of Saints Row the Third, he has my attention.

Square Enix has been making divisive games for a decade now. Hitman seems like the most critically acclaimed, which is crazy

On pc there's a load game option as well
Load is an option on consoles as well. The problem Vow ran into here is that it's the second option rather than the first and he just assumed the worst due to there not being any explicit "Load last checkpoint" or "Load last save" option. Vinny did the same thing during his Extra Life stream but he was constantly asking the chat questions and monitoring it for the answers so he learned quickly after messing up once that he could.
My guess as to the order is that it was done with the hardcore player who will want to do a clean sweep in mind, as restarting is the option they would choose. It's not a good choice in the world of modern gaming where people expect the least destructive option to be the default option.

I hope Watch Dogs 2 hits the list pretty high. I've put a out 5 hours into it and am absolutely loving it. That's how you take a terrible first game with an interesting premise and just lean into the joke. It's 100% absurd, 100% hyperbolic and it's endearing on so many levels. It's basically Hackers: The Video Game. So, perfect in other words. The aesthetic presentation of an absurdists view of hacker culture might just be the best thing I've seen.
There is a little dissonance between the idea of the game and the company making it, but at least it's Ubisoft as opposed to EA, I guess. But, it's a game worth playing because it's slowly becoming my favorite.
I feel if you remove the surprise from Doom...it's kind of just a modern Doom. I love it for that, don't get me wrong...but it's just another Doom. That's a bit reductive, but it's kind of hard to really talk about it. It plays well, it's fun, the story is absurdly dumb and doomy. And yet I keep coming back to the "yeah, it's just kind of Doom."

I just started playing Hitman last night, and when you die there are three options: Replay, Load, Return to Menu. I don't know how that isn't clear, and it says Saving in the lower right constantly.

This is exciting news for me. I started mafia 3 over the weekend and I'm quite enjoying it so far!

Yeah, I had a lot of fun with Darksiders. One of these days I'll play through Darksiders 2, but it didn't grab me like the first one for reasons that have probably been said many times before by others whenever that game comes up.

Darksiders 2 was ruined by the addition of loot, which is weird to think about.

Darksiders 2 added a bunch of stuff and kind of diluted the "purity" of the experience
It's still a fun enough game, but it's a very different thing and lacks the Zelda-esque "Get item in dungeon, use item to solve dungeon, use item to reach next dungeon, repeat" formula that the first one utilized so well
You basically get a single meaningful traversal upgrade during the entire game
Joe Mad's art style is dumb and over the top like a lot of stuff from comics around that time, but I actually like what he does with it. It worked great with Darksiders. I wish that series would continue in some fashion.

Like, the dude probably doesn't even want to be on this stuff and is only used in case of staffing emergency, so he can never get good at it.
Shrug. It took Alex 3 years before I could stand him too, takes time.
I can't believe there's no checkpoints whatsoever

just all around solid dungeon design, fun items, good combat and a decent enough "hell" story
plus the character design is pretty excellent if youre into its motif
But, like, in a good way. Back when he was fun grimdark extreme and not "the world doesn't know the seriousness of my art" extreme.

Joe Madureira, to be exact. Which is similar to Capullo, but not McFarlane's style.
Darksiders 1 had that, Darksiders 2 does not
It's officially hype time!

Yeah, I just finished it. I can see why people are reminded of Half-Life 2. Lots of variety and some really crazy, stand-out moments.
Also, it wasn't too hard on hard, so I might try the hardest difficulty.
that seems early.
Actually yeah, it's not even December yet.
they finished it on december 3rd last year guys
this is not early
this is on time
