Actually got summoned as a Blade of Darkmoon today
Location: Irithyll Dungeons. I already see the hosts health decreasing as I spawn in, and moments before I reach the host he succumbs. BUT, the invader stands there, satisfied with his kill, and I sprint in, stab him in the back, and kill him just to see a "Proof of Concord Kept" item message pop up before I despawn.

I'm sunbroing Demon King for farming and it's easy but the frustrating thing is he almost always does the massive AOE explosion at the end, and many hosts just have no idea about it and get totally one shotted...

Actually yeah... I did 10+ successful runs but the last 6 have ended that way. Unable to get him down the final centimeter of hp before despawn too. Goddammit.
Actually against bosses was exactly why I switched. Swinging a slow butts UGS at dragonslayer armour?
I mean, two DS R1s is more damage than a 2H UGS R1, and they both take about the same time. And yeah profaned R2 is 800-1600, but when am I going to spend 4 seconds charging that against the Nameless King?
I did stick with it up to (and defeating) Aldrich (other than crystal sage, where I need speed). Pontiff was enough for me to decide to switch slow weapons.
Dragonslayer Armour is one of the few bosses I switch to my fast weapon against. But that's also because my fast weapon is an Irithyll rapier, and he's pretty weak to frost and procs the bonus damage like every 4 or 5 hits.
I killed Nameless King with profaned UGS, and yes he does give you openings to charge the R2.
So we were talking before about the slug creatures, former clerics or whatever.
We were talking about them from the perspective of how they mostly chill near Rosaria.
However, what about the fact that they're in the cathedral of the deep, presumably Clerics of the church of the deep, who Aldrich founded. And Aldrich ate too many people and turned into a sludge monster. Perhaps the slug dudes are just Clerics of the Deep church who partook in the old cannibalism and turned into those monsters. As to why we almost exclusively find them around Rosaria, that's another question, but I think it should be considered that they're going through a similar process as Aldrich.
I mean, for all we know, the rebirth powers of Rosaria involve you eating the pale tongues you give her to respec and change your appearance. Eww.
Stolen from the Wiki page on Rosaria:
If you have been reborn 5 times and request to be reborn again, it says "Further rebirth is not possible during this lifetime. Persisting will transform you into a grub."
Rosaria's tricks involve eating those pale tongues, and too much of it turns you to a grub. Nothing in the game supports it directly, but hey, speculation is fun.
Can't compare Profaned UGS to Dark Sword that way. Yes, the Dark Sword does more damage per point of stamina, and more DPS if you're attacking an imaginary target dummy.
What it doesn't have is mile long range hyper armor having 2 handed R2s that hit for 1200+ damage.
Straight swords are king in this game on things that don't have poise and are free staggers, but I prefer my profaned UGS to straight swords on bosses. It's a playstyle thing too.
Only time ultra weapons are a liability in DS3 are against dogs and thralls where their windups are so fast that the lack of poise means you'll just get irritated at them interrupting your R1s. That's why I carry a +5 irithyll rapier, to poke them to death.
in the time it takes to do a charged r2, you can swing, what, 3 or 4 times with a straight sword? it'll do more damage in almost every scenario and it's safer because you can stop swinging and roll.
i'm the opposite: greatswords trivialize mobs by stunlocking them, outranging them, or one-shotting them. straightswords have the best dps and are the safest, so they're great for bosses.
No, because you get hyper armor on the charged attack of the profaned, so you can use it to trade against bosses for huge damage chunks, where they'd just stagger you out of your 2nd or 3rd swing of the straight sword.
Speaking of ultras, I was getting bored of the same old stuff finishing my NG++ run for trophies, and farmed a black knight greataxe(got it on the 2nd kill in untended, holla).
Jesus that thing has unreal AR. I think my AR with my profaned is 608. BKGA is like 703. And with the weapon art buff on it's like 788.
I still don't know if I'll switch to it full time for the rest of this run, because the moveset is not nearly as PvE friendly as the Profaned IMO. But jesus that damage.
The only weapon class that really needs help right now IMO is greatswords(not ultra). They lack the hyper armor of ultras, and they're slow enough that it's very very easy to get staggered out of anything. Compound that with the fact that especially if you 1 hand them, they don't even out damage straight swords and it's just a problem.
I used my trusty claymore for the first 30ish hours of my DS3 run, and it's not like it's not still without its uses, it still has its great moveset, long range thrust, etc.
But if you want high damage long range, just use an ultra, because you get even longer range, more damage, and hyper armor.
If they turn poise on, GS class will probably be fine.
Essentially, large weapons have hyper armor frames on the back half of the start-up and during the swing proper in which they have huge effective poise (and possibly some damage reduction?). Timed correctly, you can swing through an enemy attack, forcing a trade that you'll presumably win.

I'm tempted to give the Black Knight Sword a whirl. I'm not in love with the moveset, but it has Perseverance, which is apparently nuts (POIIIIISEEEE). Otherwise you can only get it on hammers, greathammers, the caestus, and the red hilted halberd.

Does Perseverance actually give you Poise, or is it more frames of hyper armor?
Man, I don't know what bums me out more, the fact that Poise is completely worthless in this game or that From included it and turned it "off" without any indication why.
Not only did they entice people to invest in a stat that doesn't work, they invalidated a number of weapons that might otherwise be really useful. Lothric knight spear increases poise? Great, but that does nothing. The Wolf Ring is completely pointless. If you are a casual player, how would you know this? The menu doesn't give any indication that Poise is a worthless stat; hell, it's very inclusion at all implies that it does something. If you are a new player and you read the help prompt about Poise and think "man, that sounds great. No more staggering by those dumb dogs." Well, that's just not true. The dogs will be the scariest thing you fight the whole game.
I love this game, it is probably my favorite souls game, but From has made some pretty awful design choices and I am pretty tired of their cryptic communication and obfuscation of mechanics.
Well hyper armor more accurately but even still, it's on demand hyper armor. You can tank through R1 spam, then throw down a two-hit counter hit combo right through it.

Regarding Dark Sword and other straight swords talk.
Longsword has served me extremely well in both PvP and PvE and I much prefer it over Dark Sword (I dont like parts of Dark Swords moveset personally), I love that my guy can look like a random clueless level 20 guy using the starter Knight gear when invaded/invading if I feel like it, but when I put on my Black Knight armor and use Carthus Flame Arc, which gets people get a little more intimidated.
I meet a lot of shieldturtlers who only wants to rely on summoned help to win, Knight Slayers Ring is their undoing.

So I accidentally killed the Shrine Handmaiden last night because I left clicked back into the game after alt-tabbing.
I was all worried that she was gone but she came back after I left Firelink and came back, but now she's charging more! Fucking hilarious

Aldrich is probably my most hated boss (Vordt still took me the most tries so far, because I R Noob) just because if he starts spamming arrow rain in phase 2 the fight takes for goddamn everrrrrrrr.
My favorite fight (thus far, currently in Lothric Castle) is probably Abyss Watchers. Feels tough but balanced and the first phase mechanic is fairly unique.
Curse-Rotted Greatwood's design kind of sucks in that if you're using a Fire weapon the fight is completely trivial. I beat him first try without needing to heal even once because I had a Fire claymore and it two-shot all of the sacks.
There is a bunch of good bosses in this game, but I also feel like it has some of the worst. And it says a lot that I'm not sure which of these I'd rank lower, the ones I dislike in 3 or the bosses featuring multiple enemies in 2.
Abyss Watchers is the first time I feel they've done multiple boss entities at once right.

I loved that I stumbled on Vordt and was like, hey this guy is pretty eas-WHOAH, whats this!? (half health super mode) And then still killed him on first try.
Best type of Dark Souls experiences.
Old Demon King has been most annoying so far, probably didnt help that I was level 20 and with no upgrades to my gear.
So far Watchers has been my favorite boss fight. Everything about it is just mechanically fun to play against and will still rock you if you screw up. It was a blast to see one of the enemies charge in, I roll to the side, and he hits the boss instead of me.

Faith may be pretty bad for PvP, but I just shoved a Sunlight Spear into an invader's face after she whiffed on a fume sword swing. It felt awesome.
Given that you can charge lightning spears, I've found them a little useful in following a successful backstab/riposte. Everyone always rolls after that, and you can delay the spear accordingly.

it's not a trick
Rosaria is the mother of rebirth. There's a running theme in DS3 of hollows wanting to become something else. A tree, a dragon or a blobby thing.
Most of the fingers serve rosaria out of hope that they she will rebirth them as something other than a hollow. Leonhard seems to be the exception, as stated by his mask which describes that he hasn't has his scarred face fixed by her even though he could.
Yellowfinger becomes a man-grub at the end, either intentionally or after being fleshily changed by Rosaria too many times.

Farron-bigshot's daughter, apparently clever enough to draw attention from a Crystal Sage, a xanthous scholar, seemingly polite and friendly by all accounts, and a dogged, tongue-harvesting invader.

My speculation was that
When you give her a pale tongue to rebirth you, she has you eat the tongue, and too much of it turns you into a grub, much like too much eating people turned aldrich into a sludge worm. Like I said, wild speculation.

By not spending points on levels? Some people have beaten the game with default gear already. Apparently someone is doing a challenge run where he's defeating all the bosses with default gear without dodging.
I mean, whatever floats your boat. I'm all for a challenge, but at some point I think I'd draw a line, like why ignore always avaiable game mechanics like dodging?

So, the Sunlight Talisman, is godlike.
Like all the other Talisman's, it's L2 is a poise boosted miracle. It even says that it grants a bit more poise, while casting.
This is true, and also, hilariously understated.
A poise boosted L2 miracle cannot be interrupted.
AT ALL.
I tested it on the most poise destroying monster possible, those Greataxe dragon assholes in Archdragon Peak.
Didn't even flinch and healed right through the damage.
Works on multiple enemies attacking you at once too.
