Like all the other Talisman's, it's L2 is a poise boosted miracle. It even says that it grants a bit more poise, while casting.
This is true, and also, hilariously understated.
A poise boosted L2 miracle cannot be interrupted.
AT ALL.
I tested it on the most poise destroying monster possible, those Greataxe dragon assholes in Archdragon Peak.
Didn't even flinch and healed right through the damage.
Works on multiple enemies attacking you at once too.
I am going to abuse the living hell out of this in PvP.
There was a post on NeoGAF detailing how exactly miracles work wiht Talismans vs Chimes.
It was something to the effect of Talismans being generally faster with lower scaling, and often having uninterruptable weapon arts, as in either safe for one hit or safe for the entire duration; The reason behind this being appearantly that all of the ranged offensive miracles do almost double damage at close range. Meaning a Talisman would allow you to get that hit in no matter what. Chimes wouldn't have that benefit but boost higher scaling for more damaging attacks at range.
It seemed pretty detailed and it's something I'm furious at the game for not better explaining.
I loved that I stumbled on Vordt and was like, hey this guy is pretty eas-WHOAH, whats this!? (half health super mode) And then still killed him on first try.
Best type of Dark Souls experiences.
Old Demon King has been most annoying so far, probably didnt help that I was level 20 and with no upgrades to my gear.
How did you get through Farron Keep and Catacombs of Carthus and then into Smouldering Lake at level 20 O_O
I'm at Irithyll Dungeon now :snap: still 20 and no weapon/armor upgrades except weapon infusion.
Its a challenge ritual I started doing early on in this series for no apparent reason other than I wanted to see if I could pull it of, I've also finished Dark Souls 1 and 2 as a 20.

That's interesting. It certainly makes Wrath of the Gods seem like a more useable spell. And probably you can get off the higher healing spells in combat if you can soak a hit, which should be good. I've been using chimes all game because the replenishment weapon art scales much better than the actual spell, and is super cheap for how fast and much it heals. It also stacks with the spell if you really want to have a nice heal over time effect rolling.

I find the chime's weapon art is hampered by the fact that it prematurely ends if you aren't actively holding it in a hand. Or at least it did when I was still using one.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Oh, nice. This is good to know.
I used the Saint's Talisman for a really long time, but apparently that talisman is bugged, because even when I use the poise-boosting ability I get staggered out of everything.
So I switched to a run of the mill talisman and had much better luck. But maybe I will switch up to the Sunlight Tali.
Found Knight Slayer. Got stomped by Knight Slayer. Then came back and backstabbed him into oblivion.
Went to Oceiros. Had he not caught me in a charge with a sliver of his health left I'd have gotten him the first time. Got him the second though.
Found the Untended Graves. I'll come back to that place later.

Met Pontiff Sulyvahn for the first time ever, this was on my level 20 guy with no upgrades beyond infusion.
... Killed him on the first attempt, it was such a close fight that my hands were trembling a little, that shadow thing is fucking nasty, I wouldnt have lasted much longer, spent my last estus charge and tried to rush him before he summoned his shadow another time.

If you time it right you can kill off the shadow before he finishes summoning it.
Usually I end up staggering Sully out of it, which kinda desyncs him from the clone.

Actually Pope Sully always mimics his phantom a second or so after the phantom acts. Unless he's stunned or otherwise prevented.
Yeah, I know. What I was saying is that during the summoning phase I often stagger him out of the summon, which messes up the timing of their actions. Usually the clone will get off an action while Sully is recovering from the stagger, or they'll do different things.
My copy is on the way, should be here any day now. Just had a few quick questions.
Do you need PS+ to see ghosts, bloodstains, messages, etc.? Are there any items/choices in character creation that I should pick or avoid?
Yes to the first one and no, not really, to the second one. Probably the "best" item to pick as a gift is the fire gem. But all of the gifts are pretty run-of-the-mill this time.
*edit* Also, there is no poise despite many things saying they effect poise. And offensive faith is pretty garbage (re. almost unusable).
So apparently that weapon art which summons lightning from the sky? It can be parried. I just watched a video of someone standing right on front of the person doing it and as the blade comes down to hit the earth he parries it and Hornet Ring does its dirty work.

Yeah, Saint's gives precisely one hit of poise hyper armor before it breaks, and it can be broken out of with strong enough attacks too.
Also is it just me or does Oceiros break lock-on constantly? Because even when he wasn't doing an air slam (which I hate because this camera is NOT good at seeing things like that) I'd keep losing lock-on even in first phase before he was charging everywhere.

The description of the Saint's Talisman tells you that its weapon art is weaker than normal. I read the description and thought it was a little fishy, so I didn't upgrade that one. I did accidentally blow all my twinkling upgrading the wrong chime though, so I've got that going for me.

has anyone successfully managed to early-rush the moonlight greatsword? my last character put in the time to beat dancer at ~SL30 - whereas this character only took two tries to beat her, sorcery is amazing in that fight - but my last character could do damage to dancer, whereas oceiros is a boss with a tantalizing int/sorcery boss soul that specifically cuts magic damage by like 50-60% and has a very unfriendly second phase in terms of standing still and casting.
is it even worth rushing to? boss soul weapons have largely been a disappointment, but it is the MLGS after all

There is a certain frailty to this talisman, which undermines the steadfastness granted by its Skill.
The talisman bears the Knight's own holy illustration, an emblem of his unwavering faith. Use of the talisman's Skill fills the user with similar steadfastness.
I just reached Champion, was having an epic fight, ran out of estus when he had like 50 hp left, was just trying to get one more opening to finish him, then I died and as my body was fading out my PC crashed. Apparently it couldn't handle the epicness of the moment.
I guess it's better than beating him and having it crash. As it is, it last autosaved somewhere near the end of the fight when I had 2 estus left, but before I died, so I just had to head back to Firelink and spend the 158k souls I had since beating Oceiros. I should've went back, but I wasn't quite expecting the area I found behind that wall, so I had to explore.

I beat Oceiros with a 100% physical reduction shield in my left hand and a pyro flame in my right. He has high magic resist, but no particular resistances to fire. Could you swap to pyro for that fight?
You can cast at him in the second phase, but it's really only safe after you dodge one of his charges AND you're out of tail whip range once he recovers from charging. I mainly found the shield useful for blocking tail whip when I misjudged his recovery on a charge, or just didn't quite get out of the way in time for his claw swipe charge. The latter one won't guard break and then kill you if you're off to his side a bit and take a glancing blow as he moves forward.
Been farming at Aldrich for a couple days now as a summon. It's been a mostly enjoyable experience, but last night's final run capped it for me.
I got summoned into the world of one Knight Solaire. Full cosplay, correct gesture, the works. Dude was a right badass, too - half these runs end in the host getting ruined by Aldrich, but Solaire knew exactly what he was doing.
A great experience following failed runs of esteemed individuals like AssMaster and *****Destroyer.
Edit - oh, and the fine folks at IGN UK who did a really amazing Let's Play of DS1 called Prepare to Try are going to be doing DS3 soon. If you haven't watched the other yet I highly recommend it - it really captured that first ever Souls experience perfectly. Great guys, hilarious. Can't wait for the DS3 run. Maybe one of us will run into them in game

Got my first character to 120. Stats are basically as I want them, once I get to Cathedral in NG+ I can tweak them a bit.
Decided to stick with Dex/Fth and I'm happy about it. +10 Sharp Uchigatana, +10 Sunlight Talisman, and eventually a +10 shield of some kind. I also have +10 Lightning Gotthard Twinswords for funsies. 50 Faith/30 Dex, though I'll probably rejigger to 40/40 with Rosaria. Sunlight Spear does 1135 damage to lothric knights outside the Dancer bonfire, one-shotting them. Sunlight Talisman lets me tank through any damage without issue.
I guess it's terrible, but it is fun. I'm going to plow through the bosses by pumping lightning into their faces.

Going through NG+ now, and I noticed a neat little lore detail that shows that the world has been in it's current state for quite a while. Whenever you open any kind of large, sealed door, that goes between an inside and an outside area, there is a woosh of wind as the pressure equalizes. This happens in the real world as well when an area has been sealed for a very long time. It's a neat touch that shows the world of Dark Souls 3 has been in this limbo state, with no one to link the fire, for quite a while.
