Since there's a limit on respecs and I'm a coward when it comes to NG+, started a new save.
I'm having that Dark Souls moment where I didn't realize how much I was learning until I started over. Running roughshod over everything. One shots all over on shit that took me 20+ tries before.
Amusingly, I died three times on Deacon, the most pathetic gimme boss there is, because of my non-sweeping weapon. Derp derp.
Not that you should play NG+ if you don't feel like it, but NG+ ends up being easier than a fresh NG because you already have a complete build with fully upgraded weapon and all. I'm sure if you went up to NG+7 or whatever PvE enemies would start to get really challenging, but when I've played soulsborne games up to NG+2, it's always really easy.

Oh, right, I had almost forgotten how miserable PVP is in this game. I was summoned to help a dude (I like getting summoned before every boss to get a refill), host was invaded, and we spent what felt like fifteen bloody minutes fighting. Ugh.
Happens for both sides. I invaded a guy, killed his summoned buddy 5 times as he ran in circles before they finally wore me down.

The last time I bothered to call for help, an invader spent their time jumping from the anus of one Ringed Knight to the next.

I know it's easy to forget when you are facing an unexpected invasion but this is exactly what seeds of giant are good for.

Pyromancy takes Dark Souls 1 and breaks it in half over its knee. You will be just fine going through the game that way.
Just keep in mind that the only thing affecting your ability to pyro is the equipment you're wearing (and how upgraded your flame is) and how much attunement you've got, for spell slots. Throwing fireballs is not dependent on your character stats at all, so you can play pyromancer with any kind of character build you like. I went heavy armor/strength pyro from NG through to NG+2 and it worked great
Any opinions on creating a tank spear user in DS1?
Was thinking about an alternative way to play and I do like spears in this game quite abit, theyre the melee weapon I find the most comfortable fit but also a good bit of stamina and health since I suck at evading and blocking.
Spears seem like they would be better used on lightly more mobile characters though and heavier weapons would probably benefit heavy armor but I guess I'm just trying to have my cake and eat it too here.
Maybe it's because of an LP I'm watching but I think the Black Iron set (including the greatshield) with a good spear (like the Silver Knight, if you can) would be a pretty good poke-and-tank setup
Well...there goes a shitload of souls I was on my way back to recover.
The lesson everyone has the hardest time learning when they start Souls for the first time is that your souls do not matter. There will always be more where those came from.
Ugh, I forgot the utter misery that is low level invasions into High Wall or Undead Settlement.
The latter in particular can be a giant fuckabout if there's a host who knows the asshole trick of standing within the fog wall area with the boss, but not far enough in to aggro enemies or trigger the boss fight. This makes said host basically untouchable by any invaders.
Guess what a dedicated dried finger host is doing right now.

Rats. Same guy again, right in front of the boss fog door.
I just want to summon phantoms for the bell gargoyles. ;_;

I was lucky enough to play DS1 for the first time back when the servers were regularly going nuts, so I got to play through largely unmolested by invaders, particularly bad in the first game because the matching is done solely by levels. DS2 and DS3 have much better matching systems, especially DS2's Soul Memory system because it keeps people from jumping you with their level 1 twinks with massively upgraded gear.
I think you can pull your network cable and play offline, will still let you use NPC phantoms but obviously not PC ones.
My best invasion memory was getting jumped in Smoldering Lake in DS3, I ran into the boss arena and discovered that the boss doesn't trigger until you walk a little ways in, so I waved at the guy on the other side of the fog gate and went and made lunch. Eventually he went away.

Managed to worm my way out of that one thanks to an assist from Meme Man.
Starting to see why people like this guy.
Got a pretty neat looking axe from swiping off the tail aswell. Giving me Monster Hunter deja vu. Ripping off monster parts, repurposing them and then going back and beating the shit out of them with it.
Eventually when I can afford it I intend to get a tattoo of either the symbol on his shield or one of the Warrior of Sunlight/Heirs of the Sun symbols on my left shoulder.
Sunbro for life.

Don't know if all phantoms are as useful as him but he sure as hell saved my bacon between the distractions and his own damage.
First time I used one, it made a major difference.

There's a DS1+2 thread specifically for older games btw, the two will probably get folded together at some point but I didn't realize until just now that we were in the DS3 thread talking about the bell gargoyles.

Ah. Sorry about that, thought this was the general Dark Souls thread.

Yeah I don't figure the guy invading was having a lot of fun either. Pretty sure that was a miserable experience for everyone involved.
Not sure what weapon to go with, with this pyromancer. I spent the entire last run through the game using the same Longsword my knight started with because at no point did I hav any reason to change, so I probably should find something a bit less boring this time around, but I don't know what. For now I've been using the Uchigatana I took from Ken-sama at Firelink after I fireballed him in the face a lot right after Gundyr.
Hmmm. What's a good place to farm for Titanite shards? Requiring 12 shards to get to +3 means that leveling weapon, shield, and flame is probably not happening without stopping to farm.

Farming them isn't reliable until Carthus. Your best bet is to haul ass to the dreamchaser's ashes in Farron Keep and buy them that way.

Bloody hell. Let's see if I still remember how to get through farron (no I don't. I don't remember shit about this game).

from the bonfire at the start of farron, step outside, turn yourself roughly 45 degrees to the right. Go straight, you'll eventually see the giant tower. They're up there.

Got it, thanks. Also took down the demon on top. Wondering whether to use its soul for the pyromancy or the boulder toss. I seem to remember Havel's ring got nerfed to high shit.
I think I played DS1 hollow like 99% of the time, because it's not even like DeS/DS2/DS3 where you get more health when human/kindled. I guess if you think you're going to summon help for a boss in DS1 you have to go human at the bonfire since you can't just pop effigy/ember at the boss fog like you can in the other games.

Yeah, I was trying to summon a phantom.
And then you get invaded cause I don't fucking know why but From Software thinks just fucking you over for no reason is hilarious.

it took me several attempts using the demon fists

You're playing DS1, right? If you're hollow you can't be invaded, so if you'd just died that shouldn't have been possible.
Some folks go human/ember up immediately after respawning. I've never understood why, but it's not unusual.
