How do you get kills with Titan Void grenades in the Crucible? I think mine are stuck on some special "nonlethal" setting.
What @Crippl3 and @Dyvim Tvar said. Damage from Suppressor grenades is tied to how close the enemy is to the center of the blast radius, so it can be hard to get consistent kills. But with Magnetic grenades, a stick is a guaranteed kill every time, and you might even get lucky and catch a double-kill if your opponent is hanging out near their team. The homing factor is also pretty strong, once you get used to its effective radius.
Once that quest/bounty is over, though, switch back to Suppressor. They're awesome.
If you have time today, jump into Mayhem Clash while it's still active and just go nuts.

This tip saved me a lot of time:
Equip a Ghost shell with the [Insert Planetary Material Here] Detector perk. The Speaker usually has a couple Rare shells for sale, if you don't have the one you need; otherwise, Court of Oryx is always good for a bunch of engrams.
When you touch down on the planet, equip a Scout Rifle or a Sniper and look through the scope. With the [Material] Detector perk active, you'll have a bunch of little arrows pointing to collection nodes. (Scouts are preferable since the zoom is lower, and you can locate the nodes faster.) Clear everything out, move on to the next area, repeat.
Even if you're just running laps on a mat farm loop, the Detector will save you some time just by letting you know whether a node is active or not before you get to it.

Both void and solar took me an hour or therebouts, in fact with the relic iron one, near the end I was getting 2 at a time from relic irons.
@Radiation, sorry for leaving you hanging on trials this weekend. Truth is, I haven't logged in to Destiny for over a week, and I'm kind of enjoying it. I got my characters to 335 and just sort of realized that there's nothing left to do besides replaying content I've done a hundred times without the possibility of character progression or rewards. I think I'm just due for a break.
Been using the time to catch up on other games (apparently there's a few!) and trying to decide whether to hop on the Overwatch train for my new PvP jam.

Finding nodes isn't too bad... the number of kills I need with arc abilities is awful so far though.
Supers/nades/melee all count, right?
There used to be a bug where you could hold block on your Legendary sword until the ammo ran out, and then bash things with the hilt; kills still counted as 'ability' kills. Not sure if Bungo nixed it or not, but using that trick in the thrall-room of Siege of the Warmind would be a quick way to grind it out.

Pretty sure Shoulder Charge counts as Arc, too.
Damn... that would have been faster. I did this on my Hunter thinking keen scout would speed it up. I didn't know I needed mats and kills.

I'll have to try the hilt thing later.
An important note (assuming the bug still exists): hilt kills only count if you had heavy ammo when you zoned into the area. If you dropship in without any ammo it won't count.

The thing with the kills is that they will just happen if you play that subclass. The materials require special effort but if you take Blink Strike and spec for the speed you'll probably run through the kills before you finish the materials if you kill folks while patrolling.
Edit: Otherwise, Siege of the War Mind, spec blade dance for duration and stack the thralls to the ceiling.
What steps are required to get the other two exotic swords after I have my first?
Basically the same, you just get to skip the crucible portion and have to collect helium/fire kills or relic iron/void kills.
Edit: Technically you can get more than a single sword from a run of the strike but that's iffy because it requires coordination and the stupid strike has matchmaking.
You don't get to skip the crucible part unless you do some weird gaming of the quest. I had to do the crucible bit three times. Getting ability kills, well, it just happens. I didn't specifically do anything other than play those sub classes when I needed to. As of next Tuesday I need to kill two wardens and that's that, just waiting on the "Wait for a week!" step of the quest Bungie loves so much this xpac.

I believe the key to avoiding the Crucible step is picking up the other swords before you finish the first one. Possibly during a certain part of the quest? I'm not sure.

You totally only have to do the crucible part once now since you don't have to acquire the legendary versions of the swords on different characters. If you have completed at least one exotic sword quest you can buy the other sword off shaxx and infuse them up and it drops you right onto the collect materials and get ability kills step.
The gaming was just have the sword become above 300 on the character that already did it. I guess I didn't consider it gaming because it ended up happening naturally with me. (Titans RULE!)

Anyone want to do 2 CoE's? I only want a single run on each of my alts for a few shots at a Soulstealer, tried soloing it, but this week sucks for that.
Would be nice if Bungie figured out that matchmaking for this isnt the devil.
Heading home from work now. I'd really like to finish the Oryx raid that we started the other day. We just need to complete the final encounter on normal mode. Would be nice to get it done before the weekly reset.
A thorough analysis of three Trials matches, from both the winning side and losing side.
This is basically the strategy we started using, though I was usually inside and you/Booker went up to the balcony. Though, these guys are much more aggressive than us. Great video.
So it turns out the secret to all the PvP quests is just "wait for Mayhem week". I got my Defender emblem over lunch, and my Sunbreaker one while waiting for builds to complete. I might go back for my Striker since I seem to be having good luck knocking them out.
It's going to take me awhile to adjust to not-Mayhem after today; wanting a grenade and not having one is going to be just... gross.
I also think that I might really, really enjoy the Crucible as a Titan. More than once this afternoon I found myself standing in fire or void damage, hardscoped on the head of some poor jerk who was either trying to reload or trying to get away, thinking "Why won't he just die already!?" while I was thinking hehehehehehehehe.
I got a lot of kills that way; also a lot of kills due to just running into a group and punching, punching, punching toward freedom, which now that I think about it pretty well typifies my Warlock play style as well. Maybe that explains the widening gulf in k/d between my Warlock and my Titan.
Mayhem is the solution to a great many of life's little problems. Some defender titan had the gall to pop a bubble near the heavy on this one map, and I kept having to plink 3 shadowshots into it then lay down two grenades on him. In fact, in finishing my PVP Shaxx weeklies, I just spent the whole time shooting people with tether to rob them of their supers. Some Stormtrancing warlock came roaring across the map in the open and I landed one beside him, and three teammates turned on him and blew him up REAL good.
So we killed Oryx with some efficient teamwork. Thanks for joining in and getting the job done guys. Now I need to find a fuck load of hadium flakes to both get my sword and turn in to Eris.

I already had enough for the frame. Just need the essence of the feast from undying mind now.
Doing a circuit of where you zone into in the dreadnaught, you can get that quest done relatively quickly once you get into the groove of where the chests spawn. Typically by the time you get from one side of the map to the other, the chests have started to re-spawn. I think I did that quest in about 40 mins while listening to some music.
Modifiers
Arc Burn - Arc damage from any source is greatly increased.
Juggler - No ammo drops for your equipped weapon.
Ironclad - More enemies have shields
Catapult - Grenade recharge rate is greatly increased.
Anyone up for running this tonight?

My trials team went 7-2 by the end of Trials.
Best we've ever done. The video about rushing that map really changed out game.
At 5 we went against a dude with a perfect roll on his longbow synthesis, I am sure he was a good sniper anyway but he was doing come bonkers quick snipes and no scopes. Holy shit, longbow synthesis.
Anyone want to help me get the rest of this touch of malice quest done tonight? I've got to do undying mind and one mission after that I think.
IIRC Those are both ones where you need to kill a random taken wizard who shows up. Notes: Once the wizard is dead, you've done the quest. Finishing is optional. Second, make sure you kill the wizard. With the Undying Mind this can be an issue since the boss will not like the dude either.

BLACKSMITH: Mine, not yours.

Both void and solar took me an hour or therebouts, in fact with the relic iron one, near the end I was getting 2 at a time from relic irons.
Supers/nades/melee all count, right?

Been using the time to catch up on other games (apparently there's a few!) and trying to decide whether to hop on the Overwatch train for my new PvP jam.

No worries! I actually refrained from messaging you as well! I figured that you were taking a break as I hadn't actually seen you in game in quite a bit.
But no. Really. Its fine.
Not bitter about Lighthouse carries.
Or that awesome emblem.
and shaders.
If you pick up heavy ammo you might have to kill yourself/respawn/drain/repeat.
(Siege of the Warmind has super convenient bottomless pits and lots of one-hit Thralls.)

Basically the same, you just get to skip the crucible portion and have to collect helium/fire kills or relic iron/void kills.
Edit: Technically you can get more than a single sword from a run of the strike but that's iffy because it requires coordination and the stupid strike has matchmaking.
I just want to throw my lightning sword at peeps in the Crucible
And thanks for all the help guys... I love this thread :heartbeat:

Would be nice if Bungie figured out that matchmaking for this isnt the devil.
A thorough analysis of three Trials matches, from both the winning side and losing side.
This is basically the strategy we started using, though I was usually inside and you/Booker went up to the balcony. Though, these guys are much more aggressive than us. Great video.

Your Ad Here! Reasonable Rates!
I already had enough for the frame. Just need the essence of the feast from undying mind now.
Nightstalker hunter with keen scout and just run around the first patrol area.
I got a Party Crasher drop in Crucible. Aggressive Ballistics, Rangefinder, Reinforced Barrel and Replenish. That'll do Destiny, that'll do!
Anyone up for running this tonight?
Best we've ever done. The video about rushing that map really changed out game.
At 5 we went against a dude with a perfect roll on his longbow synthesis, I am sure he was a good sniper anyway but he was doing come bonkers quick snipes and no scopes. Holy shit, longbow synthesis.
Supercell HOOOOOOOOO
IIRC Those are both ones where you need to kill a random taken wizard who shows up. Notes: Once the wizard is dead, you've done the quest. Finishing is optional. Second, make sure you kill the wizard. With the Undying Mind this can be an issue since the boss will not like the dude either.
