Pax West no more 4 days badge?
teebone8291Silicon Valley, CARegistered Userregular
Is it just me or Pax have choosing to cut 4 day Pax badge over all? i know last year (if i remember correctly) the PA staff said that the reason they are not making 4 day pass was due to it was not a labor weekend and most people will not come on Monday using the 4 days pass, the split of the badge will let more people have more chance to come to Pax on Monday. dose anyone know what the reason is this year?
the info i got that Pax west will not have 4 day badge is coming from the Pax west page which i see that there a now prices posted. http://west.paxsite.com/registration

I'm having a problem finding the exact quote, but Robert said something along the lines that eliminating the mutli-day badges encourages people to only buy badges for the days they're actually going to attend, which means more people being able to enjoy the show.

well i hope it will return. if they make it the same price as all 4 days of the badges combine i doubt people will pay for it and not use it. and 4 days badge always sell out first. there no need for discount on the 4 day badge.

I would be mad if they did that without asking. I know some people love having 4-day badges, but I don't. If you leave PAX early one day, you can't give that badge to somebody to make use of it. If your badge is lost, damaged, or stolen, you are out of luck. That said, I doubt they will do it. The actual need for a 4 day is very low, the only argument that compelled me was from cosplayers who had to integrate it into their costumes. So they'd have to design and make another badge at some expense for a very small number of people. They could charge for it, but I'm not sure if what they would have to charge would be what people are willing to pay. Especially since charging extra for it would discourage many people.

PA has said multiple times that will not happen. Weekend badges for West are not coming back any time soon.
It is not about the price, it is about getting the most people into West as possible. In the past it was noticed some people that bought a weekend passs would not use it in all of the days due to something coming up. With making everyone buy single day badges you make it possible for those people to hand off the day they won't use, but still keep the rest. This has the potential to let more people see West.
I would expect to see weekend badges for East to go away in the next few years as well.

Especially because East's location makes it more likely for people to attend just 1 day. East sells out Saturday much faster than Friday or Sunday (by more than an order of magnitude). West sells Friday and Saturday pretty much at the same rate. I wonder why they haven't gone away already. East Sunday might sell relatively much slower, but it still sold out 5 months before the event.

'GIVE AWAY YOUR BADGE'?!?!?! Why would you do that? lol I have kept every single badge I ever had, I keep them in my PAX stash! lol
2013 they did have 4 day passes (but they where gone unless you clicked on the link almost immediately, it was my 8th pax and the first time i didn't get one). I cant remember if he said it online or at the Club PA meetup but i think Robert said that they did it so people would buy for the days they where actually attending. i know Monday seamed a lot more packed then the previous 2 years, and i think its attributed to the single day pass policy.
I know a lot of people in previous years who bought full weekend badges who could only make it to the first 3 days.

I attend the show every year, and I always hand out my daily badge to people in westlake center when I leave. I typically take off early afternoon and that still gives em some time at the expo and any night activities. I've always bought 1 day badges for that very reason even though I attend every day. I started doing it years ago, and it's fun.
That's one of the best things about PAX: everyone does their own thing. I'm cool with people wanting to hang onto memorabilia, but that's just not my thing.

I'm really curious what the heck you're talking about here. Most cosplayers I've known simply hide or take off their badge for pictures, I've never heard of someone "integrating" it with their costume. And I can't see how a 4-day that's the same size and shape as any of the 1-days would be any easier to integrate. I thought the main argument was just from collectors who already had years' worths of 4-days and wanted to keep the pattern.
Personally while 4 1-days can be harder to keep up with for storage purposes (having them get mixed up or floating around in bags) for security and ease-of-use they're way better. I don't know if the 4-day even got you a discount the last time they sold it.

Hey now, attendance could drop significantly requiring a discount for weekend passes to boost sales back up.

Last time they were sold was in 2014 and single days were $35 ($140 for the weekend) and 4-day passes were $110.
Heck, they could probably just sell individual-day badges, but with a different design and charge more.
Please don't give them any ideas...
