Yes I disliked other areas of Dark Souls way more. Sen's Fortress, Catacombs/Tomb of the Giants.
Speaking of, I just beat Dark Souls for the first time! Whoever said it was going to be easier after having beaten DS3 and Bloodborne they were definitely right. At least the combat and bosses. There are way more "platforming challenges" which make for a lot more BS deaths, but other than the enemies are a lot a slower and easy to deal with in general if you know what you're doing after playing other games.
Hell, I don't think any boss took more than 5 or so tries and I beat Gwyn on my first try. My heavy tank build certainly helped, though.
Yep, playing DS1 or Demon's Souls after the advancements the future games made with enemies actually tracking and not being impossibly easy to just circle strafe for backstabs, etc. makes those games incredibly easy by comparison. O&S is the only boss from DS1 that took me more than a couple tries the first time I played that game(it was my 3rd Soulsborne game after DS2 and DeS), and honestly now that I've fought so many multi boss fights in the later games I imagine O&S would probably feel really easy too.
So guys...looks like I have to go to Blightown. I got my rings. Got my curse cleansing items. Got my poison/toxin stuff. This...is going to suck right?
Take it slow. Plan every move and attack you make.

Keep your shield up.
The dudes with toxic dart will instantly debuff you if they land a shot.
the first time i ever went through blight town was actually some of the most fun i've ever had in a videogame. Died twice at the beginning, and then managed to do the rest of i in a single life.
the valley of the drakes route is so barren and empty except for containing some really tedious enemies that i never particularly liked doing it except for in the early game when i was running back and forth trying to upgrade my pyromancy
Oh Im on PC so...framerate shouldnt be an issue right?
It still can die pretty spectacularly, at least it did on my comp, which can run much more intensive games. I think its something built into the game itself.

Guessing that jumping up by the ladder caused the Pursuer to spawn, then resting at the bonfire caused him to despawn like all other enemies which is probably flagged as them dying but without giving you soul rewards. Notice that in the video he gets the items but doesn't get awarded souls for the "kill."

Basically, do a respec as normal and when you go back to the menu screen, wait until the "saving game" flame goes away and hard close the game. when you start the game again, it'll give you a "didn't close the game correctly" message and when you load the character again, the respec will have taken affect and it won't be counted as one of your five. You'll still need a pale tongue though.
So, my DS1 update. OMG...Sen's Fortress. I do not want to do that ever again. I'm currently stuck in the Archives. I also just realized that I skipped the Painted World.
Anyways, my thoughts. MAN, do other Souls game have nasty places like Blightown and Sen's Fortress? I mean, handling big monsters? Sure. Doing platforming or walking a tight rope in the Souls engine? NOPE. I'm too old for this shit lol. I kinda wanted to give up and go back to BB but since I already killed one lord...might as well wrap it up right? Here's the other thing. MAN, is this game long. I wish I played it back when I had a LOT of free time.

DS2 has a huge platforming area that's all dark until you start lighting torches

My first time finding the black iron greatshield at Anor Londo, I started running around while holding it up, making mack truck noises.
The only shield I ever used was grass crest. It blocked enough to be worth the stamina regen. Other than that I just used the best armors as I got them, and the zweihander through most of the game.
Everything cool you wanted to look at for Dark Souls, but were afraid to image search. Spoilers for all 3 games it goes without saying! About 750 images total, all fanart, organised by game, name and category, along with my personal favorites at the end. This is the first installment. Enjoy folks, I had fun putting this together.
I just recently bought Dark Souls 2 and I'd like to 'git gud' at it. So far I've managed to score the Fire Longsword from that courtyard (which seems inescapable without a Homeward Bone) and opened up a shortcut via explosive barrel to that Bonfire where that old lady vendor's sitting at. I also spent 1000 souls at the hub's armorer to open up his first tier of wares but I dunno which of the two new armor sets to go for. Is there much difference between them? Also, is there anyway to check out what pros and cons new gear at a vendor will do for you before you buy it or are you just stuck having to purchasing it first?
Armor isn't a be all-end all in these games, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. The biggest thing you can do early on is raise your Adaptability stat so your Agility gets up. Agility controls how much invulnerability you have during your dodges and how fast your estus chug is, and that will give you the most bang for your buck defense early on.
I'd recommend...grabbing a Twin Dragon Greatshield and a Mace. I never did get the Fire Longsword but the Mace eats a lot of foes during the early start (that strike damage). The Twin Dragon Greatshield is pretty light and has high stability so you can block a LOT of stuff. I just recently beat Dark Souls 2 so I still have a lot of stuff fresh on my mind.
Oh and before I forget. That vendor lady? Talk to her until she moves to Majula. When she does that her Lifegem stock will be unlimited.
Oh yeah, like @Naphtali says, get it to 20 asap. Also, I'd recommend doing a suicide run into Heide's Tower of Flame and grabbing the Ring of Binding asap. If you equip it, your hp death penalty only goes up to 75% instead of 50%.
I did find a Morning Star on a cliff by the hub-town. Is a Mace better enough to be worth buying? Also, I'm gonna have to bump up my Strength a little to use that Greatshield I think.

How far should I raise the Adaptability stat?
There's various agility breakpoints that you can go dig into, but as a rough thumb you're looking for around 20-24 adapt to start, AFAIK. I'm not huge into DS2 like I am the other games in the series, but my experience was miserable until I started pumping Adaptability to geta stronger roll and estus speed up.
the nice thing about DS2 is almost everything is viable, and in instances where your build isn't viable, it's pretty low cost to pivot to something that works well just to get through an obstacle
enemies weaknesses and strengths generally feel pretty exaggerated in DS2 (in my opinion), and so apart from whatever build you pursue, you should just be aware that it's a good idea to keep a few alternate weapons (particularly a smashing weapon and a ranged weapon) on deck
because the weaknesses are so huge, you don't really have to invest that much in upgrading them either.
the purple pontiff sword is probably the most beautiful weapon in the entire series for me
it's basically the bloodborne moonlight sword but purple... and it has a weird balance choice where it has the same projectile as the moonlight sword, but without the durability hit...
anyway, it fucking rules and finding a great boss weapon tends to be an essential ingredient for my interest in my characters
So I started replaying DS3 on PC, and I'm rolling a dex build + Astora Greatsword. I never used it back when it had that bugged rolling R1, but it seems still pretty awesome? standard UGS R1s, the charge L2 is great for wake ups or mixups, and the R2 thrust attacks... that plus Leo ring did a 852 damage hit to Pontiff Asshole the other night. It was awesome.

Hardest part of Blighttown is framerate.

considerably worse on PC due to the lazy-ass port. i had to download the DSfix patch just to get 1080p and over 15fps

A lot of the NPC sideplots have oddball requirements, but I wasn't aware of any that had boss summon requirements other than Lucatiel
