i think part of what makes for support vs defense is that toe-to-toe thing. while the current supports can pump damage if someone gets close, they cannot take many hits.
Except Zenyatta who gets sniper fire because we do roles gud
Buying boxes is fun, but it's something I will have only done the once. I got the 24 pack for 20 bucks and I don't regret my purchase, but there's a 0% chance I'll buy more.

So few people seem to play Zarya and she is amazing. Shield, take some hits and then melt faces and throw black holes about.
Thankyou to whoever posted it for that tip about her shield resetting Mei's frost bullshit, it's made melting her that much more enjoyable.
Something I noticed D.Va was able to do was to escape the Gravitron Surge by using her left shift and boosting out of it. Don't do that though, let Zarya melt you.
A well played Zarya is ugly, it feels like nothing sticks on her at all
Unfortunately I didn't capture it before, but I had an almost perfect game with her on Gibraltar, 20 Kill streak to the very end multiple ult kills and a ton of denied ults.
It felt like the other team could do nothing, nothing but fall back no matter what they tried
Also, re: Supports: Supports are there to raise your teams uptime vs the others at the objective. Lucio does with poke mitigation and a hefty shield, Mercy heals and can bring a whole team back if perfectly placed, Zen can top of people who are hurt and lower the other team's uptime by lowering one person's hp, and symmetra can bring 6 people back to the fight much faster and put up 125 additonal HP across the team, almost one tracer worth.
Turns out standing behind a toothpick post is enough to protect you from all of a Deva ult
This is also not true anymore, it was changed. Lamp posts don't shield you anymore

Is there like a basic guide to playing characters. Some of them I just can not seem to be useful at all.
Ran a 5 ape, 1 Lucio on King's Row attack earlier, that was rad as hell
Still struggling with Symmetra, it's hard to figure out where to place my stuff on the fly when the payload is moving forward
everyone save for one person decided to be hanzo (other person was zeny) on route 66
and we're all just dicking not really being good and the other team is easily moving the payload
so it's about 3/4 of the way there and i guess we all simultaneously decided to play our best characters and held off the other team for about 3+ minutes while the payload was literally inches from the final checkpoint
Man.. I didn't know you could steer your ejection from D.Va's mech! Press a direction and she will jump out in that direction instead of the standard backwards

I've never had this happen for me
Like you get air control once you leave the mech, but you always have backwards momentum

This also happens to me, I usually try new characters when they fit and then the game sometimes goes bad..
This is where I put the really big boy pants on and switch to Reinhardt, the character I'm confident enough with to win a control map back from the enemy 99%

symmetra is definitely harder to play on payload than on point defense
I basically don't play her past hollywood and king's row's first point
Symmetra should be classified as a support but there should be a "no healer" tag like there is a "no sniper" tag.
And also get rid of the no sniper tag, imo.
The funny one is "no builder". Who the hell cares if there's no builder? While I like Symmetra and Torbjorn, no team will ever fall apart due to a lack of them.
I had a McCree flashbang me and destroy a nest. I keep saying this: Symmetra needs to go back to the drawing board and get seriously revamped. It'd take a lot of time for to write up the myriad of problems with her kit.
My friends and I joke about the No Builder tag a bunch
It was funnier before we realized that Symmetra counts as a builder, at first we just thought the game really wanted someone to play Torbjorn

I had a game where the enemy had the point in the 90% range. We were in the 70's. We put the game into overtime at 99%, cap it. Then hold it until we win. So stressful.

Give her beam gun an alt-fire that heals teammates, and replace her shield ability with a high-damage, long-range beam pulse. a combat laser, if you will

all symmetra really needs is like
for her turrets to have 20 or so health
it still dies to basically everything but this helps her nest have a semblance of survivability versus things like flashbang, winston (winston being one of the hardest counters in the game v. symmy which feels dumb), and tracer (whom the turrets should be a much bigger problem for).

I will not be any good at it, ever, just to be clear. I have never been good enough to be competitive in any shooter, and I do not expect this to be any exception to that rule.

I disagree. A properly-played Symmetra is devastating to an attacking team.
One thing I always do is put out a sacrifice turret. Make it obvious and vulnerable, so enemies think they've cleared a path when they kill it and oh no five beams from obscured spread-out corners they're dead.
One of my friends is playing in an overwatch tournament this weekend, he expects his team to run, and fight against, 2-3 McCrees on every map. Man I hope his read of the meta is wrong because that would be a boring direction for the game to go in.

Another issue with Symmetra is she's nigh useless against Pharah. Two rockets will kill her (I still think pharah being able to two shots over half the cast is dumb but that's a separate issue), she has AoE to clear out turrets and most importantly if she's in the air you can't beam her and she can still move fast enough to avoid balls. I've gotten behind them occasionally and surprise beamed them to death while they were on the ground, but even then if they're fast enough they can concussion blast you off to give them time to land the two rockets needed to end Symmy.
Which like, shouldn't be a problem because she's in the air so she should just get shot down, but apparently not a lot of the people I group with are that handy with hitscan characters (and we kept getting a bunch of horrible lag that particular game too).
Nobody said Symmetra isn't GOOD. A teleporter is vital on certain maps, and an increase to max HP is so good it got nerfed hard in beta.
But the problem is that biggest things she brings to the table are passive. Turrets are complete joke, and all it takes is one Reaper or Roadhog to turn around and fire a shot to wipe out half your turrets. And since the skill has a twelve second cooldown(!) that's right there about a minute of time just lost, and a guaranteed lose of 36 seconds because she can only hold three charges. And they don't die to basically everything: they die to everything. Her turrets have literally one hp, and a sharp player can quickly tear down a nest before they are even remotely threatening. And this wouldn't be a problem if she had a weapon that was worth a damn.
She desperately needs a kit that feels more proactive than blind-firing down chokepoints or hoping senpai doesn't notice you so you can get a beam kill (which, by the way, has one of the shortest ranges in the game and is frequently broken...all on a hero with just 200 HP).

I don't think she's as non-threatening as you think, but she could definitely use some love to make her more relevant in a firefight at higher levels
turrets are useful as vision even if they're immediately destroyed, when I see the big red thing pop up pointing behind me on hanamura A I can yell out "someone's on the point" and we have someone go back to deal with the tracer. And it certainly slowed them down by at least 5 seconds, normally, since they're wary of any other turrets getting on them when they know defenders are coming because that's precious HP they could be losing--and that 5 seconds can be the difference between them hitting the first checkpoint or not before the cavalry arrives.

His altfire does 420 damage at minimum range, assuming all bullets hit, and does so in one second
In comparison, a Reaper deals 280 dps, a max charge Zarya does 150, and a Bastion does 600
Mannn, it was a good clip too. Basically all those sick D.Va plays you see? Nothing. Mine was a boost over the wall to kill 5 dudes on the final piece of the cargo push for the win as my team was about to push in.

Working as intended. Feature not a bug.
Steam Me
I bought 24 last night and it totally ruled
Maybe if I'm still playing by pay day.
Symmetra and Lucio together work well I've seen. Also a well played Zenyatta can be just mean.
We had an enemy Symmetra on Lijang Tower 1 that was the biggest annoyance I've seen, running in perfectly to finish of 2 people 2 times.
We won in the end, but her play held the whole enemy team together and in the fight, so we won with them on 99%
On a different note, I think I know where I love D.Va the most: On maps with many crates and places to hide for a few seconds.
It's almost cruel how hard D.Va is when she gets just a bit of time to recharge defense matrix and flies away in time to not die.
