I've been playing Stardew Valley and the restaurant managing expansion on the Sims and it's left me with a managerial itch that needs scratching. I'm thinking of getting SimCity or Cities Skylines but is there anything out there with a smaller scale? I have Big Pharma on my wishlist from when it first was early release, did that one pan out well? Should I revisit Prison Architect?
There are so many * Tycoon style games, but so few are any good that it's hard to find the gems. I've already played Roller Coaster 1-3 far more than any human should.
Cities Skylines is definitely a good one, though it can get large and complex pretty early. If you haven't tried Game Dev Tycoon it is pretty fun and doesn't ever feel unwieldy, though at 33% off I swear I have seen it cheaper.

Yeah - I tried playing it pretty much right when it hit. I liked it, but I think I hit a brick wall on one of the tasks they gave me. I'm sure it's had a ton of updates since then though.
Are the PC requirements for Fallout 4 exaggerated?
I can run Fallout 4 with everything set to Ultra at 1920x1200 resolution and max view distance with my CPU not meeting recommended spec, my RAM exceeding recommended, and my gtx 780 directly meeting recommended spec.
The only time I ever really see much of a loss of frames is when I'm looking at all of Diamond City at night when it's all lit up, but even then it's high 40's from the usual steady 60.
Sweet. My CPU is the only thing under spec. Thank you.
@Heatwave being the gregarious fellow he is has gifted me Volume! I love The Marvelous Miss Take and this seems like a different spin on the same theme - excellent!

Skylines looks great, but I was thinking about giving the new SimCity a go - it looks more streamlined and it's only $5 on Origin at the moment for the base game. I know it got bad press initially, but I think that was mostly about its online component rather than the game itself...has anyone played both?

This will probably get lost in all the salestravaganza talk, but it amused me:

FRACT OSC: Myst, Tron and a Synth Sequencer all in one. Really cool atmospheric exploration puzzle/adventure game. Explore a world of synth music and fix it from the inside. Grow Home: Featuring procedrual animation, guide B.U.D. a robot that moves like a wobbly toddler on a small planet in a quest to revitalize a large tree, gather seeds and information on the fauna and flora. Very cool spin on the procedural genre. The map is always the same but most of the gameplay mechanics are about procedural generation. So animations are procedurally generated as are the paths taken when growing the vines. Basically, you grab buds, ride them to floating islands and suck the nutrients. Very cool game by the people who made Driver San Francisco, I believe. Price:7.99 3.99 (50% off)
Hyper Light Drifter: Very recent indie release. Think Titan Souls with some Zelda influence. It's very challenging at times, but also very rewarding. Revive a post-apocalyptic land for some reason by finding Modules hidden around and fighting awesome bosses. Yeah, i like reviving lands, what of it!? Really stylish indie title that looks very unique. Price:19.99 15.99 (20% off)
The Talos Principle: A first person puzzler not unlike Portal. Use various tools to collect tetriminos which you place in panels to unlock more puzzles. Suprisingly, the puzzles are great but the real appeal is the storyline which is relayed through computer terminals. Very philosophical. It's a game that made me think a lot more than I thought it would. Made by Croteam, the people behind Serious Sam. Also has a cool aesthetic, though it's one of the blander games in my list. Price:39.99 9.99 (75% off)
Jamestown: This blast from the past is a classic vertical SHMUP at its finest. Play as up to 4 people as you reclaim 17th century british colonial mars from the natives. Yeah, okay, that sounds a bit problematic, i know. Cool ships with nice variations, great pixel graphics and challenging levels make this a must-get for any SHMUP fan or couch co-op aficionado. it's an oldie but a goodie, that's for sure. Be sure to also check out the DLC which adds a couple cool ships to the roster. Price: 9.99 (Not on sale? Still a good pick-up!)
La-Mulana: This remade and remastered version of the classic MSX homage Freeware title is amazing. This version features remade graphics and music as well as tweaked puzzles and boss fights. Also, attempt Hell Temple, if you dare. Not for the faint of heart. Price:14.99 3.74 (75% off)
Nimbus: A really overlooked, fun and interesting game, Nimbus is the story of a little airship whose girlfriend got kidnapped. Go through a nonlinear map through a large number of levels to get her back. The thing is, the Little Airship has no upward thrust, so you have to get creative to stay in the air using various environmental objects. Forgotten or, perhaps, overlooked, don't miss this one out! Price:9.99 2.49 (75% off)
Offspring Fling: The classic Super Pretendo game Offspring Fling is finally on PC! Okay, the super Pretendo never existed, but this puzzle-platformer is great. Cute pixel art, tight controls and challenging levels make this a must-have for any 16-bit puzzle platformer fan. Price:7.99 3.99
Pid: Pid is the story of a kid who fell asleep on his bus only to wake up and be dropped off on a forgotten planet where space buses no longer stop. Populated with robots, the planet has some problems that Kurt will have to solve. Very challenging 2d puzzle platformer with a large variety of physics-altering tools. Try to collect stars and enjoy the scenery and don't get too frustrated. It's a hard game but the beauty of it is worth experiencing. Price:9.99 1.99 (80% off)
Recettear: An item Shop's Tale: Capitalism Ho! In this dungeon crawler / Shop sim, you are a young girl who inherited her father's item shop in a fantasy kingdom... as well as a huge debt. Risk of Rain: in this procedurally generated death 2d platforming run-and-gun, you play as space adventurers stuck on a planet full of things that want to kill you. use your skill kits, manage your skill cooldowns and get rad loot as you get back to your ship. The only problem is, things get harder as time goes by, so you have to be quick about it. Find teleporters each level to summon bosses, unlock characters and items and get back to the cargo ship in one piece. Great with co-op as well, though the online part is really old-school with direct connections being necessary. never got it to work, lol. Price:9.99 2.49 (75% off)
A Story about my Uncle: if you've ever wanted to be a swedish spider-man, exploring caves and amazing vistas, this game is for you. Equipped with jumping boots and a grappling laser, you must find your uncle, who went missing in a strange word. Narrated wonderfully, this game tugged at my heartstrings. Very nice to look at, though it's a bit more challenging than it needs to be as it is a first-person platformer. Price:12.99 2.59 (80% off)
Super Time Force Ultra: Kookabunga! In Super Time Force Ultra, guide a group of time-travelling meddlers who must make time more awesome! With a saturday morning cartoon aesthetic, pixel graphics and run-and-gun gameplay, the twist is that your one hit isn't the end! it just makes you go back in time and try again, maybe with someone else. And if you can save your last life, you can pick it back up and power your current life with it. The story is maybe a bit grating to some, but if you don't take things too seriously, you can kick ass with a skateboarding dinosaur. Price:14.99 5.09 (66% Off)
Vessel: Vessel is another of those puzzle platformers. But the twist is that you manipulate fluids in that one. it's a bit odd, the art style is cool, though. As a scientist, go through the gameworld and use various fluids and fluid creatures to solve puzzles. Price:19.99 4.99 (75% off)
VVVVVV: VVVVVV is a clasic. Seriously, if you don't have it, why not get it now? It's a puzzle platformer with minimalistic retro graphics. Except you can't jump. All you can do is reverse gravity! Pretty cool, right? Explore the metroid-esque world and save your crew from the weird dimensional rift they're in! Price:4.99 1.24 (75% off)

Parkitect is shaping up nicely. It's still at an early stage and not on sale, but definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Basically it's an attempt at a 3D theme park designer ala Rollercoaster Tycoon, but with the isometric view and simplistic graphics kept.

Yeah - I tried playing it pretty much right when it hit. I liked it, but I think I hit a brick wall on one of the tasks they gave me. I'm sure it's had a ton of updates since then though.
I experienced pretty much the same thing. I picked it up again recently, and holy crap it is night and day from then. Lots more to do, things are much more fleshed out, and it keeps giving me new goals and tasks to complete and strive for by expanding my prison's footprint on the land. The new Events that happen periodically also add extra stuff to deal with and work around, so hopefully my current save gets to see many more than the two I've already gotten.
Edit - Also, got a distraction last night while I was practicing for today's 2 hour endurance race I'm taking part in on GTA. As always, just hanging out in chat, reading the discussions happening on the longer straights of the race, and suddenly a window appears announcing that someone's stabbed me.
Thanks @Stabbity Style ! I've seen this pack covered by multiple people I watch on youtube, and have heard good things about it, so I'm really looking forward to checking it out!

I really like what I've played of FRACT OSC, but it's another game I'm holding off on playing through until I get my new PC. Not that it runs poorly, but the FPS drops a lot on occasion, and I want to experience it at 60 FPS. I am a sucker for games that have that TRON-style look.

Big Pharma is quite good. If you enjoyed the layout aspect of something like Roller Coaster Tycoon's log flumes and car rides then laying out conveyor belts will be a good time, too. I also really like the research and upgrade aspects. I haven't played the DLC, but being able to research and know that I'm making better (or just more profitable) medicines and then it's great to figure out a recipe and then optimize it and don't do this to me LiLo I'm trying to burn down the backlog I can't go back to Big Pharma right now!
EDIT: Also, holy shit @ s with quotes are working again!

Cities Skylines is definitely a good one, though it can get large and complex pretty early. If you haven't tried Game Dev Tycoon it is pretty fun and doesn't ever feel unwieldy, though at 33% off I swear I have seen it cheaper.
I have Game Dev Tycoon - but since I had already played the shit out of Game Dev Story on the phone, it felt sort of redundant at the time. I could give that another go though - it's been a long time since I've played either.
Skylines looks great, but I was thinking about giving the new SimCity a go - it looks more streamlined and it's only $5 on Origin at the moment for the base game. I know it got bad press initially, but I think that was mostly about its online component rather than the game itself...has anyone played both?
SimCity 2013 is hot garbage that was completely abandoned once EA relented and gave everyone an offline mode once they figured they couldn't squeeze any more money out of it.
The infrastructure / logistics of how traffic works is fundamentally broken; Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack was a band aid over the problem by giving people megatowers to live in that didn't require commutes, and hover roads floating above regular roads to give them double the capacity.
For all that's good and holy: do not get this game.
Cities: Skylines is SimCity: Done Right Edition. It's got a lot of mod support, and paradox has released a lot of extra content for it. PM me on Steam if you wish me to sperg about it in greater detail.
Thanks, @Legacy for the gift of sepia-toned dogfighting madness!
And thanks Class Titan @Heatwave for Tharsis. I've been really curious about this since Tycho wrote it up on the PA home page as sort of a Yahtzee bloodsport. This was one of my most-wanted games coming in to the sale and I really appreciate being able to take it for a spin.

That was the only SimCity game that I wish I had never played. Cities: Skylines is basically what the hype around SC2013 promised, and deserves to be played if you're a fan of the genre.

I know I haven't been around here much, mainly because I just can't keep up with the thread, so I just spend time in chat when I have it. I gotta call out two classy folks though, so here we go!
Thanks to @Stabbity Style for Time Gentlemen, Please and Ben There, Dan That and thanks to @TeeMan for Gat out of Hell! Classy as always!
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
How do only two people play that much game in only 2 weeks?
That has to be all @SkutSkut ... While I have 100s of hours in it, lately I only log in to Tera long enough to check auctions and get my free dailies. Takes me about 10 minutes a day. I haven't actually played it in a month or more (I dropped my sub and most of my interest when they went full pants-on-head stupid with the cash grab Hello Kitty costumes).

I am avoiding this sale like the plague. That layoff I was worried about finally happened yesterday, so it's time to put my new resume to good use. Plus I have plenty to play on my backlog between Steam/Wii U/PS4 to worry about more games. I'm still knees deep in Baldur's Gate too.
In other news, Super Time Force Ultra is a fun game with a neat gimmick but the writing is so bad you'll want to skip all of it. It's 'humor' is very much just throwing memes at you constantly and hoping you find that funny. Terrible writing with fun gameplay. I got my platinum trophy for it on PS4, so I enjoyed it enough to get all of the achievements. Five bucks is a good deal for the neat time mechanic alone. Just my thoughts on that one.

i personally found the writing super duper endearing but you're not alone in hating the heebie-jeebies out of if, brawndo.
Assuming this still works: steam://friends/joinchat/103582791431548925
I'm ashamed to admit I have no idea what that means.
@MNC Dover There's a chat room associated with every Steam group. You can join it by putting that link into your browser. People who are not in the group can also get into it via that link, or by going to http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791431548925 and clicking on the blue "Enter Chat Room" button on the right.
I'd love to hear more impressions from this forum on Parkitech if anyone picks it up. I spent a lot of time in the first couple Roller Coaster Tycoons building rides I would get nauseous just looking at IRL.
Hmmm missing the eu vote, ripped muscles in chest and shoulder and missing the Steam sale. Quite the year of what ifs.
If it all goes Pete Tong I'm blaming you.
ISY WHY!!!!!!
I WAS IN PAIN! I WAS IN HOSPITAL MATE, IT'S NOT MY FAULT!
Fucking crying mate, wish I was kidding. Everything gone to shit in a week.
This is probably all my fault. I got a job and totally forgot I'm not allowed to have nice things so something would have to be taken away to balance it out.
I'VE RUINED IT FOR ALL OF US OH GOD! AND THIS SALE ISN'T EVEN LOOKING THAT GOOD, I SHOULD'VE JUST STAYED A BUM!

First off, thank you very much to @Corsini for Portal.
Dear Braniac 8,
This is a metaphor about working for The Man.
Best Wishes,
Corsini
I appreciate this and it wasn't necessary but thank you so much. Portal is one of my favorite puzzle games of all time and I haven't played it since my 360 went kaput, so I'll enjoy running through that again. (Sorry, I don't know how to post the actual gift picture that you guys do)
In other news, if any of you haven't played it, Outland is only .99 during this sale. It is a fusion of an action/platformer/bullet hell game and it is amazing and beautiful. A buck is a steal for this game. So buy it, you won't regret it!

Recettear: An item Shop's Tale: Capitalism Ho! In this dungeon crawler / Shop sim, you are a young girl who inherited her father's item shop in a fantasy kingdom... as well as a huge debt. Explore dungeons, buy items from wholesalers, decorate your shop and haggle your way back into riches, making a ton of friends along the way. Very cutesy with a novel twist to it.

Price: 14.99 5.09 (66% Off)
Vessel: Vessel is another of those puzzle platformers. But the twist is that you manipulate fluids in that one. it's a bit odd, the art style is cool, though. As a scientist, go through the gameworld and use various fluids and fluid creatures to solve puzzles.
Price: 19.99 4.99 (75% off)
VVVVVV: VVVVVV is a clasic. Seriously, if you don't have it, why not get it now? It's a puzzle platformer with minimalistic retro graphics. Except you can't jump. All you can do is reverse gravity! Pretty cool, right? Explore the metroid-esque world and save your crew from the weird dimensional rift they're in!
Price: 4.99 1.24 (75% off)

Parkitect is shaping up nicely. It's still at an early stage and not on sale, but definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Basically it's an attempt at a 3D theme park designer ala Rollercoaster Tycoon, but with the isometric view and simplistic graphics kept.
Old PA forum lookalike style for the new forums | My ko-fi donation thing.

I WAS IN PAIN! I WAS IN HOSPITAL MATE, IT'S NOT MY FAULT!
Fucking crying mate, wish I was kidding. Everything gone to shit in a week.
This amuses me.
I mean, not to be racist or nothing but...
aren't Pixies and Fairies currently at war?

Thanks to you both!

Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
That was the only SimCity game that I wish I had never played. Cities: Skylines is basically what the hype around SC2013 promised, and deserves to be played if you're a fan of the genre.

Thanks to @Stabbity Style for Time Gentlemen, Please and Ben There, Dan That and thanks to @TeeMan for Gat out of Hell! Classy as always!

How do only two people play that much game in only 2 weeks?

So I guess I'm revisiting Prison Architect and picking up Skylines during this sale. Also, Parkitect looks fricking awesome.
@MNC Dover You can put that in a run prompt or a browser and it'll open the Steam chat.
Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst
Thanks, dude!

Target Acquired
The three holes in my ceiling were brought to you by Worms: Revolution, Cook Serve Delicious: Battle Kitchen Edition, and Combat Cats, all fired by that classy monster @Aegeri . Many thanks!
Scoreboard in a bit!
I can has cheezburger, yes?
I appreciate this and it wasn't necessary but thank you so much. Portal is one of my favorite puzzle games of all time and I haven't played it since my 360 went kaput, so I'll enjoy running through that again. (Sorry, I don't know how to post the actual gift picture that you guys do)
In other news, if any of you haven't played it, Outland is only .99 during this sale. It is a fusion of an action/platformer/bullet hell game and it is amazing and beautiful. A buck is a steal for this game. So buy it, you won't regret it!
