i generally prefer slower characters because my fingers are stupid, i do like Sol but the character guide said "Aggressive style" and that's not me
Even the less aggressive characters that would superficially be thought of as passive zoners have to operate in a slightly different mindset in the world of GG. A good example is that Faust has many of the properties associated with poking/zoning characters (lots of long normals, lack of any real reversals, relatively slow aerial movement, etc.), but it is often against his interests to just sit back and wait for the enemy to come to him. If he does that, it actually gives his opponents a chance to set up abilities and then take a run at him. Instead, he has to use his big normals to box his opponents in as well as smack them out of their attempts to set up projectiles or whatever else that would shield their approach. Reading and reacting to your opponent's approach is a part of his game, but suppressing your opponent's action by aggressively reaching in to their space as well as pre-emptively shutting down their jumps is an even bigger part.
Faust is also highly recommended for beginners because he has some of the lowest execution requirements of any character in GG, and this has been true for over a decade. However, because of his relatively slower normals and lack of any real reversal or fully invincible move, there are a number of matchups where he has to pay attention or else his opponent gets in on him for free... and that usually spells doom because he has an especially large hitbox when being juggled to reward his opponent for getting in on him.
Anyone on playing Xrd on a stick without crushing your fingers?
You gotta hit a lot of buttons in GG. Some characters are worse than others in this regard. Even the big slow grappler, Potemkin, needs to from time to time.
I like to think of a very simple but surprisingly easy to forget thing which a piano teacher once told me:
"Faster, not louder!"
There's a tendency to use more "force" when what we want is more speed. To a certain physical extent this is true (force = mass * acceleration), but in terms of buttons it means we do things like striking the button with more force as well as maintaining that force on the buttons for longer. This puts more stress on your fingers and the joints of your fingers. You don't need to hit buttons like you're going to push your fingers through the joystick box. You just need to push the button and then lift your finger/thumb off of it, but this is a pretty easy thing to forget when things get heated!
I'm not even talking about complex characters.
I cannot be ready to press the four major buttons while reaching my pinky out for the Dust button. It is physically painful to Gear on a stick.
The original layout for the buttons as others have mentioned is
K S HS
P - D
Which had the intention of vaguely going up in strength going clockwise (P being the "lightest" button and D being the "heaviest"). Though all characters have unique normal chains, virtually every character can chain from P-K-S-HS-D in that order. Of course as you mention, it feels weird to need to reach for D with your pinky!
A slightly modified layout which eliminates reliance on your pinky is:
K S HS
P D -
This lets you use your thumb for the P and D buttons. But really, any layout can work as long as you don't have that gap in the middle of the bottom row.
To take the point further, my friends who played Johnny and Eddie in older versions on pad all used an entirely unique button setup for those characters out of their need to be able to hold some buttons while pressing others.
Injustice had a pretty good half life at offline locals, honestly. Much longer than it did on Twitch.
I'm kinda over being competitive in fighting games and going to tournaments and trying my best so the idea of a super stupid DC comics fighter that is somewhat balanced and has a bunch of fun bells and whistles is exactly my cup of tea.
Shit, it's a whole pitcher of my tea.

Being super picky and strange about my preferred layout really helps draw attention away from the fact that in game I just open my hand as big and flat as it will go and hammer it somewhere in the middle as fast as I can
I finished Story Mode, it was delightful. From Overture and beyond, Sol gradually went from a one-note character that I hated, to my favorite character. In -Sign-, I was worried about the final villain, but they went in a different direction that I enjoyed very much.

I may be around Revelator tonight, seeing if any of the new characters are for me / relearning just how the hell GG works

Sol becoming a cranky middle-aged uncle to Ky's kid is the best thing that ever happened to his character.
I just wish that Sol being nearly two CENTURIES old was expressed a little more.
I have to wonder if one of the things Sol does (grabbing a rocket and riding it to the Cradle) was partly inspired by ArcSys having done a Contra game just a few years earlier.
Faust probably had the best-animated moment of the whole thing Story mode, though.

You're thinking of Capcom.
I predict Injustice 2 will be a blast to play single player and will last about as long as the first one did competitively.
I play KoF like
AB
CD
That's why
(It was a hell joke)
On kof i play
AC
BD
because kicks and punches go together.
But im basically screwed on every snk cab ever since its

I must be the only wierdo who misses English voices. Only Sol and Venom sounded like shit in English, and Sin was fantastic.
Fuck dealing with sold out copies and dipshit employees
But... my shelf! It must be filled with cool boxes and artwork!
Not sure if serious, but yes, exactly.
Dead serious.
Its why I still buy cds.

Didn't folks play Injustice competitively until MKX came out?
It even kept decent numbers throughout.

who is robo-gouken and/or not gouken and/or non-union gouken counterpart
Robo-gouken = Kum Haehyun
Character looks like SF4's Gouken, and since it's actually a robot suit being piloted by a girl (because anime), robo-gouken it is.
