S1 iteration (since I never got a good look at the S2 version) looked like the M-8 Avenger, which is automatic. Besides, it probably has a switch you can flip between modes.

This is an improvement over how they did the Korra seasons. At least now they can lay down development over the course of several seasons without fear, instead of cramming stuff in a season and scrambling for more stuff when they discover they got extended.
You know what would be rad? If they get back to earth and they used scans of the blue lion and other alien tech to make the Vehicle Voltron
Oh I'm sure that's what they are wanting to do, since they called the military school the Galaxy Garrison, which was the same name used for the home base of the original Vehicle Voltron.
Happy it got renewed and glad it's coming back in September. They did season 1 in June and season 2 in January so they have been pushing this out fast as hell, which is impressive.
And am I the only one who doesn't give a shit about Vehicle Voltron? The lions are cool and iconic and have personality. If I want truck robots there are a million Transformers things I can watch.
Maybe if they make Vehicle Voltron Earth's military version and keep Lion Voltron as the main focus.
It doesn't help that the vehicle voltron is literally 15 different components, so doing it like before would mean adding at least that many characters to the show for the sole purpose of throwing in another combiner.

As I recall, Galaxy Garrison was also in original Lion Voltron, they just never ever had them actually interact with Avila Ron because it was from a different show than Go Lion

Hey, I liked Vehicle Voltron.
But I never liked how Sea Team's parts weren't really matching any traditional ship or sea vessel; they're just so Voltron can have thighs and shins.
I was like great this is gonna be some Evangelion shit where he dissolved into the fluid and had to reform his body after A Journey Of Discovery
I will watch any show that gives me so much Tyler Labine, and my husband was dubious at first when I said he is totally a Hunk ("why, because I'm fat?") but now agrees
