Favorite bit has to be the Wrath of Khan reference.
Godspeed Funbot.
Can we call this Chekov's Fun Bot now?
Because that'd be the most hilarious thing if it lands on something important at a crucial time out of nowhere.
Lance
Feels like Lance is stepping up in the dramatic stuff too. Also he was the one that Shiro tried to talk to, not anyone else, which I think means something.
Holy shit, did they just 'kill' kill Zarkon, instead of just 'killing' him? That looked pretty dead to me.
And the next episode is called Postmortem, which certainly implies it.
If they're smart, they'll take the body with them so he can't be re-revived as a double zombie.
Sooo... civil war for control of the empire? Haggar was just activating plan I Don't Like The Sound Of This, so that's something to worry about.
They need to get off this 6-episode season thing; it's not long enough to really build any kind of momentum on a story beat. Especially if there's just a hook here or there, it just ends up (to me) being really unsatisfying.
This season was really goddamn good you guys.
Lotor
Gosh.
Full season spoilers DONT CLICK
Zarkon is in the Astral Plane with Shiro, he ain't dead. Haggar is spying on Voltron through pseudoShiro? Keith's mom oh gosh. Lotor's heel turn is going to be incredible at this point.
I really wish Pidge had a conversation with their dad about calling them Katie, but the fact that he was calling them Pidge before he left settles Pidge as Not Cis for sure in my mind.
Lol Oriande is in trans flag colors and soooo pretty.
LOTOR OH MY GOD
Keith's Mom has got it going on
Bi flag colors, too!
Lotor was surprisingly entertaining in spite of being almost hilariously overqualified at everything. I'd be turned off by his Mary Sueness if he wasn't so cute. GOD DAMN THOSE GLOWY MARKINGS! :tell_me_more:
So much good shit this (half) season! I'm super excited for 6 in June!
Also, I got the blue lion from the Legendary set.
I got Black, yellow, and now blue. My Voltron now has the capacity to stand up.

But he's not a threat to anyone, because he's armless.
Okay, so going into Season Six (with spoilers from S5)
I really think they're going to have Lotor do his heel turn because of what happened with the White Lion. The flip side of that is because the way he and Allura were interacting, I think they're going to pull something from the original series and convince himself that he and Allura should rule the universe together. I also think there might be something there with Lotor being able to use the Black Bayard, since the only people we've seen using them (I think) are the Paladins themselves. It could be a nod to him being Zarkon's kid (some kind of genetic key?) or that he's a possible future Paladin for the Black Lion. That doesn't necessarily fit with him being a villain though, I'll admit.
It's also weird in retrospect that Pidge modded hers, since apparently they can turn into just about anything with a thought.
Agreed. I rewatched season 5 this week and it went by too fast

See, I like that I can watch a whole “season” in a night the weekend it releases
My problem is that they are clearly written as full seasons and then split in half. Ending with no conclusion or starting in the middle of an arc every time, and I tend not to remember where we left off
If these were written as short seasons, I’d be all for it. I appreciate the frequency it allows

As I understand it, a bayard can be anything, but the form it takes is up to the weapon, not the person wielding it. Zarkon had 10,000 years to master his, so it's no surprise it's more versatile. Lance's bayard goes from general (assault rifle) to more specialized (sniper rifle), which I took to be a kind of training wheels in retrospect.
The sword came out of nowhere. It'll be interesting to see where they go with that.
For Lotor, the black bayard is the same kind of Altean-style sword we saw him using in the arena.
Re: Lotor being able to use the bayard at all: radioactivesupersonic on Tumblr has some interesting thoughts on that (and a lot of super-detailed character and story analysis covering pretty much everything). His take is that Lotor, as Shiro's Sincline counterpart, has a lot of the same traits that the Black Lion looks for in a Paladin, to the point where he could conceivably have flown Black under the right circumstances. As such, he and Shiro are on the same wavelength a lot of the time, which is why it's so easy for them to work together.
Lance:
Re: Shiro going to Lance for help, radioactive's ongoing theory - which I like a lot - is that if the black paladin is the logical "head" of the team, then the blue paladin is the emotional "heart" - and Lance is one of the two characters often shown doing emotional labor (Coran is the other). Shiro is confused, hurting, and scared; so he goes to Lance because he recognizes - possibly subconsciously - that if anyone is safe to talk to, it's him.
edit: always takes me a couple tries to get links right on mobile
OK, as soon as you’ve seen the third episode, buckle up, strap yourselves in, because those last 4 episodes of this season are something you have to see in one sitting.
Because it’s extremely action packed, and a true rollercoaster ride!
Back to Earth next season!
One thing I’m wondering: I thought it was said that Voltron, from the beginning, would contain 7 seasons. But do they mean 7 13-episode seasons? Because the last few “seasons” were either 6 or 7 episodes, and there’s no way that
we’re only going to spend 6/7 episodes on Earth, right?
Everything was an estimate because Voltron wasn't given a specific number of seasons for it's run, it was only approved with a number of episodes. Which is 78.
Looks like my original theory of "Shiro isn't coming back" after the S2 finale turned out to be correct after all.

"I'm going to kill everyone for peace! Including the Galra!"
*Lotor's generals IMMEDIATELY realize what the fuck, and bounce out of the fight*
I think this is the second time they've been left with jetpacks in the middle of space though. That's weird.
Also
His crew have turned on their masters 2 or 3 times each, now. I gotta wonder how hard it's gonna be for them to find another job. lol
The first couple were for a long con double cross, though. It's the last turn this season that's a not part of the plan, and they can probably say "Well, our boss got crazy and threatened to kill us all, so we bounced".
What amazes me is that their personal space jets can eventually outrun a universe-threatening cataclysm.
Favourite moments when Coran is repairing the ship:
At one point, after having hung from a rope, when he lands on his feet, the music seems to start like the Mission Impossible theme. Then when he detonates the bomb and you see him running in slo-mo, the music sounds as if it is playing Chariots of Fire.
Very nice way of making you think a well known music theme is starting, and then it goes another way to avoid copyright stuff. I am wondering if I missed any other themes in that episode...

I completely fucking lost it at the slow motion part.
I find Coran's slapstick annoying a lot of the time, but that was amazing.
Some general thoughts about the structure of the show overall, minor spoilers
So season 1 and 2 are the 'Zarkon Arc', the Paladins are finding their place in the universe, settling into their role, and fighting against the fascist leader of the universe-dominating Galra Empire
Seasons 3-6 are the 'Lotor Arc', which adds texture and depth to the Galra empire, unifying the universe, and exploring the nature of Quintessence and the origins of Voltron, and the villain is similarly complex.
So I have to imagine that the last 26/28 episodes(and a movie?!!?) will revolve around Honerva/Haggar as the villain. She's been there the whole time, she orchestrated the entire Shiro long-con, and made it clear towards the end of season 6 that she's still working towards an objective.
Maybe Zarkon won't come back like I speculated? I dunno.

I still don't get what Acxa's deal is with Keith. She's too soft on him.

It feels like the quality of the animation consistently increases each season.
Also it felt like there was a tonne of queer lighting in this season.

Hunk was especially fantastic in the first one.
Then Keith shows up this season, and they yell, "Who's going to pilot the black lion?" and Keith just drops, "I will" and I'm all, fuck yeah!
