It's like the backlash with FFXV on how there are no female party members.
The devs just kept digging their own hole deeper and deeper with each response, when it would have been far better to say nothing or just offer a simple "we didn't plan that with this concept".
Any attempts to give a narrative or thematic reason is just going to get picked the fuck apart.
I'm torn on this one, since I was really disappointed there were no female party members in FF15 and it turned me right off the game.
But at the same time, the first female character they showed at Sony's conference was HEY LOOK AT THEM TITS IN VR and man I just don't know anymore.
It doesn't have to be a binary. They could add playable female characters and not objectify the shit out of them.
There's also nothing immediately wrong with having a sexy female character.
The problem is A) she's the one they keep focusing on and they've done nothing to flesh her out beyond the sexiness.
I hold out a very small misguided hope that the "date" that the VR mode teases will be the chance to actually learn about Cindy's character and actually flesh out an intriguing relationship between her and Prompto.
I know, I shouldn't hold my breath, but the possibility exists.
You'll notice I didn't say anything about sexiness. I specifically said not objectified.
Guys and gals, the question shouldn't be "why can't we have a female Link?" It should be "why can't we have a Zelda game where she's the protagonist?"
And when I say "a Zelda game" I mean this fucking game right here, not "Zelda's Pretty Princess Dressup." Flip the script. Make Link the Prince. Christ, it's not difficult. I also firmly believe Link should stay male while Zelda is female. Those characters are established. I like having Link be Link and Zelda be Zelda, but there is literally zero reason you can't change up their roles.
in my opinion a game with zelda as the protagonist should focus on the unique aspects of her own character, such as being the ruler of a kingdom and being the avatar of wisdom. something like divinity: dragon commander where you're dealing with political intrigue and management simulation and strategy, with maybe some night scouting missions as sheik.
Shovel Knight I believe revealed gender-swap mode during the Kickstarter campaign - why is not not in already, all they have to do is change up the sprites and done.
The reason is yacht club is nearly certainly going to want to change the entire game around when they implement it, like with plague knight.
My guess is Nintendo is probably thinking along those lines when they consider female link, which is why they say it's simpler to just have playable Zelda, but to them Zelda is tied to being the avatar of wisdom etc as you describe so it ironically wouldn't be a LoZ type game anymore
The Kingsglaive movie, on the other hand, looks dope, and showing a whole bunch of characters and world that makes me wonder "Why won't you show this in the game???"

But no one is asking for necessarily a playable Zelda. They just want to Pokemon it where Sahasrahla asks you at the start "Are you a boy or a girl?" and all that changes is your character model and a few pronouns in dialog.

Oh certainly. But I'm saying I don't trust them to do it. Probably just not gonna play FF15 instead.

They just confirmed in an interview that the game will have no towns. They clarified that it's a Hyrule in ruins and they took direct inspiration from the world of the NES LOZ. They did confirm that there will be a handful of stray NPCs throughout the world but no towns or villages in the traditional sense. Also, they claimed that link will not have any kind of partner and will be exploring alone for the entire game.
That sounds like the worst thing, if true

The "guardian" enemy in the game plus all the nature and ruins is giving me some real Castle in the Sky vibes
And if there were ever a movie to take inspiration from for a Zelda game, that would be the one I would pick

it sounds less than ideal but i also think it's kinda cool

Show's not over, so I'll reserve final judgment
But of what I've seen so far, Horizon, Titanfall 2, Zelda, and God of War are topping my list
And those last two are maybe the strongest showings, honestly
...well, but Horizon looks really good too...

i mean we're not likely to hear much in the way of announcements, but there are probably game trailers that are still being run
You'll notice I didn't say anything about sexiness. I specifically said not objectified.
it's also not something a mechanic working on machinery that might kill you would wear
I think we'll see one or two surprises before the end of Thursday, at least
that's generally because of secondary conferences that happen during the show like the Square Enix one though
and there's no Square Enix conference this year

That's actually neat. Just enough gameplay functionality to not feel pointless but not enough to feel like you need the amiibo

After Fi I think they should take a break
Plus that's less chance for too many tutorials
But then they awkwardly split the footage, making me wondering if no one can play through that segment properly.

What about the magic tablet that talks to you
This seems like a lot of functionality to build into an amiibo... I wonder if there isn't another optional partner character you meet at some point?

It didn't seem like there was much TO it, badly played or otherwise
It looks like even when you do it correctly, you're just stabbing his pinky over and over again and dodging through his hand when he swings
I feel like BoW is taking me on a rollercoaster ride
I am hearing good thing bad thing good thing very rapidly
